Coinmarketcap is now owned by the binance so it nullifies the advice from OP and not much to discuss that because the usage of coinmarket cap increased a lot over the years and its not really a reference for anything just to get everything at one place but the user has to put their effort for further researches about the project or coin or exchange once they identify it on coinmarketcap.

Coinmarketcap had already been bought by Binance which is really very unexpected and now it isnt really an issue for them to be boycott or something because they wont really do
anything stupid since its really tied up into their current exchange reputation and if something shady do happen then we know on what would be the possible damage
that it can be done into their reputation.

There are lots of similar sites like CMC but i cant really just tell on why the hell i do end up on using this ever since i do touched the ground of crypto market.

Ive been using these all over the years when i do tend to check out the entire market situation or the coins or projects that i've been holding.Everything you can check it out
but its always been suggested to make up more search if you do still have on doubts.
Coinmarketcap too had lot of errors in terms or price reported so they just blatantly report everything what exchanges are giving and now the things changed but not a lot, still it is a free service so we can't completely rely on them for our decisions related to crypto trades.

To boycott coinmarketcap, seriously? And if we boycott coinmarketcap which should we go to, Coingecko? Both are the same just that the difference is that coinmarketcap is bigger. All the other ones listed, I hardly hear about them so I won't say they are renowned.
However, it is true that coinmarketcap have its limitations and shortcomings but till date it still remains the best  and tries to offer more data than its Counterparts so I think boycotting it won't solve anything. Also, most projects uses coinmarketcap to gain more exposure; if you hear about a coin the first place that comes to mind in checking its price, listed exchange etc is coinmarketcap. Therefore you can see that irrespective of its shortcomings, it is still serving a purpose while in order to ascertain the true data of a project, you can visit the listed exchange to check for yourself.

The only problem I have with coinmarketcap is that they sometimes show old price for some exchanges - if you click the Markets tab you get the list of exchanges offering trading pairs with desired altcoin. And sometimes those prices are not completely fresh so when you check the actual price on exchange, there is different price than it was shown on coinmarketcap.
Coinmarketcap is good I've been using it for quite sometime, but I would recommend you guys check the newest and leading cryptocurrency monitoring https://crypto.co/. It provides the most reliable source for the price, chart, marketcap, and other information of a token or coin. They are also providing the most detailed cryptocurrency news. Their mission is to help those cryptocurrencies holders to have a depth understanding of cryptocurrency.

Been using coingecko for a while now. I stopped using coinmarketcap somewhere in 2018 and even removed all the bookmarks on all my browsers. What pissed me off was how they would list and highly rank scam exchanges based on the daily trading volume.

That is the most outrageous thing they do and that totally disappoints me since even the community tells about that situation still the developers choose to let them stay and those scam exchanges are still on the top so maybe I'm thinking to stop using it and choose coingecko as the community tells that it is good option aside from CMC.

I don't use cmc since last 4-5 months ,i use mostly coingecko, i have also stopped using blockfolio as they also have been acquired by some exchange. I use Coingecko for all price info related data in my blog site. Hoping Coingecko won't do any silly mistakes else I would have to again change the data provider in my site , earlier I used to put cmc price data in my site ,but now i only use Coingecko data.

We don't have to boycott CMC, most people are using Coingecko these days.
I shift on using Coingecko few months ago CMC has really bad support according to some project owners who needs to updates their projects and the support is one of the worst in the world while Binance is one of the best exchange, cmc must also deliver such best service to users.

most users that are now using coingecko do also started  on coinmarketcap but because of the visible issues of cmc , this makes them uncomfortable and they finally switch but now that binance owned cmc .

there should be fixes now and they do want to bring back the old site  . no need to boycott cmc indeed .

It's business so expect to have this issues if you think yhis is an issue, maybe we should see first if the coin or token really worth to be listed since if it will be added on first exchange and doing a good job for sure the CMC and other big exchange will find them a good asset to be listed on their platforms. We should also know that there are so many scams out there and you can't blame the platform to became more stricter and asking for payments since they deserve that CMC is big site and they have there own rules so for those who want to get listed they should follow it.

I don't expect everyone to understand what I mean.
You go on CMC just to check the coin/token for your next sig campaign.
Once you have a project or you talk directly with the owners and devs of a certain coin you will find out how far the rabbit hole goes. All the good, the bad and the ugly things.

If saying it's free and asking for bribe or exchanges delisting coins that paid to get listed and were not told of any volume requirements at first "just business" I wouldn't want to do business with people like you.

For the end user these are not visible or not important. However these things need to change, that's for sure!

I personally don't really see any big problems with CMC...
they do business, we can't do anything, not only is CMC most likely doing the dirty work, other rating sites are sure to do it too.

even BINANCE has their own repo of marketcaps individually calculated and updated according to their information.
Coinmarketcap is a subsidiary of Binance which was bought last April by Binance...

I also know of coins that wanted to get listed on exchanges. The exchange said you need to be on CMC first. Then CMC said you need to be listed on exchanges first

After over half an year back and forth they found a rusian guy they paid some BTC and got then in CMC within days (and you thought it's free... lol )
Also exchanges that de-list coins due to low volume and then propose their in-house market maker for $3k per month.

It really is a jungle out there. Sorry to hear about your experience with them but does not surprise me at all.

(Re)-posting here as the main CoinMarketCap thread is 'locked' ...

CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies!

To whom it may concern,

Coinmarketcap - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/gapcoin/ - stopped tracking Gapcoin <> BTC when we were de-listed from defunct exchanges.

I've contacted them for full relisting and to link our new exchanges, but they require a $1000 avg. daily trading volume, which is fairly hard to achieve when your stuck in this chicken and egg altcoin limbo situation i.e. no exchange listing = no volume etc.,

$1000 average over how long?

I mean technically if someone wanted to trade back and forth(granted they had enough gapcoin), we could theoretically accomplish that with a few people trading back and forth..Yes there is risk involved and the possibility of losing some monetary value is there but....

Over 24 hours ... 7 days a week? Who knows exactly ...?

This situation is not actually acceptable.

CoinMarketCap is presenting long-term incorrect information in regards to the Gapcoin project. I have now notified them more than twice about this with a spacing of 3 to 6 months or more.

They are restricting price movement and free markets as the exchange rate is held static with the last price point they last tracked ...

Feb 6th 2019.

They even currently track the Freiexchange API where Gapcoin is listed https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/freiexchange/ - but they don't track Gapcoin!

Again, CoinMarketCap is presenting additionally incorrect and miss-leading information about Gapcoin, despite being notified otherwise ...

"Hybrid - PoW & PoS" X
"Scrypt" X
"Inactive" X

Nope.

"Custom PoW - Prime Gaps"
"Active"

Time for Gapcoin Club to get some legal representation and send out some pretty pieces of headed note paper methinks ...

Relevant screenshots taken.

Moreover, Coinmarketcap seems to of 'outed' and maligned Gapcoin in favor of listing this token ... GAP(S). We are not associated with this project.

- hxxps://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/gaps/

- hxxp://gapschain.io - Again, we are not associated with this project.

The expanded Tab for their website above touts 'GAP COIN' - and currently clicking it states "coming soon!" ...

Contacting them as well. We clearly had the crypto-ticker first. A 'friendly' cease and desist notice will also likely be sent to gapschain in this regard.

Just finished reading the article, thanks btw for sharing this. I'm surprised that they did this to the community kinda disappointed with them. Cmn is one of my favorite site that I visit everyday, checked every coins that I'm holding on. Just wondering how could this is not viral? More people have to know about this issue. I guess we have to look for another, never make only one site as a reference.

There are other alternatives besides coinmarketcap to avoid some misinformation shared by cmc people should look for discrepancy from other site. Trading platforms for example shares real time data on altcoin prices and btc price so there is no need to use coinmarketcap to look up the price. And for the coins background i believe we can use google for that.
You will find so many things in the world of the crypto currency whose only motive will be to deceive you and to mislead you so that you may not be able to choose the right thing and that you end up losing your money or fall victim of any of their fraud scheme. You need to be very aware of each and everything which you will do and that you need to stay away from any such thing which can result in loss of money.

This one is probably a bias situation,  Why do we have to boycott the coinmarketcap?  Different traders has different points of view and strategy how to make money roll, actually a good trader and investor does not stay in just one place to rely on, let's say calculation has some difference to other exchange site but it depends on the situation.
