Without fooling ourselves about what people are talking about Bitcoin, the fact is that most people don't understand even the most basic things, and the others don't even try to understand because they think it's all one big scam. Therefore, it is strange to me that people at their gatherings, after everything they do online, still think that it is normal to talk about Bitcoin and not about some much more relaxed topics that go better with good food and drinks.

In addition, talking about Bitcoin in public today is not the same as it was ten years ago when it comes to your safety. Be sure that when you talk about Bitcoin there are always those who do not have the best intentions, and if you show that you know something more than what the average person knows, you will certainly catch someone's eye.

My craziest was some guy who I knew years ago found out I was in crypto. This was maybe in 2021 during the hype. He basically wanted to give me $5000 or $10000 and wanted me to turn it into like $100,000 or $200,000 because he needed to buy a house. I told him it doesn’t work like that. You don’t get rich off bitcoin anymore those days are gone.

He was upset and basically thinks I am being greedy and don’t want him to reap the benefits. Some people are very crazy when it comes to investing their money, they all think it’s easy.
Sounds familiar, I used to have a brother from another father, who I ran to for help when I learned about Bitcoin mining, he was in position to help but he wanted me to help him first, I was curious to know what it all about, he said I should build a farm for him first, I mean a Bitcoin mining farm, and if he made back all the money he invested then he will help me.

Imagine that, I was mad at first but I still decided to do it, but when I started explaining the possible things that could happen while the miners are working, like Bitcoin volatility, miing difficulty, bear market mining experience (having to hold for a long term to make the good gains) he said stop, he changed his mind right in front of me.

People do want the easiest way to make money, and they aren't ready to face any pain and struggles along the way, things are not programmed this way, when it's hard its because you are doing it right, it's because you are on the right path, when things are too easy your soul could be the price, because nothing comes easily.

I was in a religious meeting one day with some people and someone came up with a topic about Bitcoin. I was surprised that most of them saw the coin as satanic. They said it is a currency that will be used when the devil and his angels will rule the world.  Some of them also claimed that Bitcoin will soon become the only currency and before you have access to it, you will be given a scientific mark on the arm or forehead. When I tried to explain to them my experience and little knowledge about Bitcoin, I ended up becoming a suspect of the satanic agenda. They advised never to buy the coin or accept it for payment of goods or services. I ended the argument because it may have led to a serious confrontation if I had continued.

The crazy thing that so many people think about BTC is that it is going to make them very rich, and when they realize that it doesn't work that way, they lose their interest. The best way to start off as a bitcoiner is by viewing BTC as only decentralalized money that is censorship resistant and permissionless, and you can speculate on the price later on.

Speaking to people who believe Bitcoin can make one rich overnight can be dangerous because they might assume that you are rich. They might begin to be a financial burden to you because they thing you are rich. Some of them might become evil and begin to think negative things.

It's normal that if you don't know a particular topic, you can say or think silly and stupid things. Take a hint from me as I am a beginner:
I think bitcoin is an internet currency and its price goes up and down automatically and I have no knowledge about supply and demand, how the market works, why prices go up and down, etc.
the other silly thing is to trade cryptocurrencies without researching anything, just draw lines on tradingview charts and watch the whole blackboard of an asset's price and think hmhmm i'm a genius.

It is not so frequent that I hear most of the statements on Bitcoin because in my locality most people are still unaware of this gem, they don't even know about its existence. It's sad to say but this is also a countable fact, more or a few times I heard the crazy statement about bTC while having a conversation with my classmates a few years ago and sometimes while explaining my interests in the market.

"BTC is another pozi bussnies" That was hurting haha because he put forward his view on it with strong points and for a moment I thought yeah this is how it works. At the time I did ignore all other aspects of Bitcoin except for the market value.

"It is Haram  Grin because of one reason it doesn't have intrinsic value" Haha using a religious point while I was explaining Bitcoin and how the market works with Bitcoin to a friend he frequently attacked and said it haram due to this reason and count this count that.... after taking a long breath I was like this is what was waiting for haha, then with my explanation I did prove the fiat money (Our local currency) is Haram because it doesn't have the intrinsic value, but Bitcoin does have it. The utility in the Blocks a transaction fee. Thats it after a debate it ended up with a win on my side and now I'm waiting for a person to place a statement on the Environmental effect haha because I had encountered it a long time ago and at that time I was not prepared.

Discussion about bitcoin will be suitable with those who know well about it and where I go when I shared any idea of bitcoin with others so their reply is always same that bitcoin does not guaranteed your success and one day it will become disappear but they speak these lines because they have no experience.

All people have different thoughts from one another so if one don't consider it as a good way of earning they should not invest in it but we think its a better opportunity so our thoughts cannot be changed.

silly conversations i see even people that have been in the community for 6+ years:

"the coins are yours even if they are not confirmed/settled to your key"
"bitcoin payments happen in seconds and can handle million transactions a second"
"bitcoin relies on middlemen to pass payments along a route"
"bitcoin has more then 8 decimals"
"to use bitcoin you need to choose a partner"

to me these people are talking about other networks pretending to be bitcoin. which then makes other newbies have a bad experience when they see bitcoin is not like how these first idiots explain it to them

"Tell me you're complaining about the Lightning Network, without telling me".

 Roll Eyes

To make it clear for newbies, nothing in the Lightning Network is "pretending" to be Bitcoin. What are being sent and received are signed transactions by all participants of a channel.

Obviously when I went out with some friends it often happened that the conversation fell on Bitcoin but obviously I know how to choose the friends to talk about it well and even if they are initially skeptical after a few minutes as soon as I manage to attract their attention they start asking questions and very often they are curious , clearly knowing them I know how to tease them Smiley

I rarely go out for any kind of gathering, but besides gathering, I came to face this type of situation. For example, on August 17, BTC dumped in a single candle, and I marked a trend line, and that trend line was broken by that red candle, so I just uploaded it as my status on WhatsApp, and then some of my friends started to think that I made a hell of a lot of money as the market was going up for the past 3 months. (I opened the chart in a 1-day timeframe.) But they were not aware of the current situation that the market was dumping.

But those who criticised BTC and asked me why I spend my time in crypto, like what good it has, then after trying to teach them the basics and giving them the answers, I raised my hands, surrendered, and made up my mind that, from now on, I will not answer any of your queries as you guys have no intent or interest to learn or adopt new technology, as you guys just think about making money, and that I cannot assure you 100%.

After that, I left them on their own and left them to learn the hard way.

OP your thread takes me way back when I had to spend time arguing with some friends and strangers when we might probably be having a conversation about investment then the idea of bitcoin is made to the discussion you now hear some of them saying bitcoin is a currency control by few high classified anonymous personalities, it's a charm, it's just a time bomb waiting to explode anytime soon. Blablabla!

And initially I use to go into arguments with them then it got to a point I realized it was just about ignorance taking a center stage in them and nothing more, so decided never to go into argument with anyone no matter their erroneous and misguided statements about bitcoin. Following a statement I read from a book it said, and I quote "everyone will get to buy bitcoin at the price they deserve", which means in my own very understanding, never argue or coerce people into accepting bitcoin or the idea of it, etc.

What cut me off my sleeves was a thread I recently bounce on into on the forum and what I read from the op about "bitcoin same thing as fiat" it shocked my imagination that there are people in the forum but yet have no clue about bitcoin.

Am sure some forum members might have seen this thread too.

Wayback into those previous years where Bitcoin isnt that heard off mostly here in our country on which if there are some hangouts and gatherings whether it is really that by my friends or with family members or relatives.

On the time when the talks do speak Bitcoin then they would be having on that shared opinion or sentiment about Bitcoin on which this is really just that an another scam in the internet. On that time then i do convince
myself that it would really be that pointless on making yourself those kind of explainations about sharing up the good stuff on which it do really makes you look like a scammer or someone who do marketing.  Grin

On the time that the market did make out some huge jump and hype then this is the time that they do reach into me and asking about Bitcoin once more.I did just give out those basic search links
and its up to theirs on knowing it more by reading. I dont really like on getting blamed on the time that the price goes south. So better lead them into those basic researches and do their own homework.  Grin

Payment Gateway Allows Recurring Payments
I have a lot of bitcoin conversations not only at breakfast but in my class or whenever I am sitting among my friends or cousins. There is a thing in human nature; of course, not in every human. Instead, the ones who just want to hear how much you made feel sad, but when they hear how much you lost, they feel happy and also try to criticize the cryptosphere. And all I do is ignore them. Because one of my teachers used to say, Never spend your time and energy on bad vibes, bad impressions, or bad people; instead, use the same energy to do something productive, I just spend that time on other tasks, or if I am sitting among them, I try to change the topic.

But on the other hand, for those who show interest and excitement towards BTC, I do not hesitate to teach them all the things that I have learned from this forum so far.

The weirdest chat I had with my cousin was when she asked if I should invest in BTC now and how much profit I could gain. I asked how much you wanted to invest, and she said I did not have that much money; instead, I just had a few. I said, Ok, no problem, you could buy BTC for even $5 or $10. Then she said she had $10, and I said, "OK, no problem. Then I quickly calculated the amount of BTC she would get and then told her that if the BTC crosses its ATH in 2025, then your $10 dollars will be worth this, and she was like, That's too low, and I was stunned.

I mean, what are you expecting from an investment of $10? Well, then I tried to teach her why calculating the profit at even good prices means that when the price is good, it is good.

This depends on the kind of people you're rolling out with at that particular moment, if they are bitcoin enthusiast or users then you may not have such exoer as with those that knows nothing about the bitcoin network, at the cause of making conversation, i don't think you need to follow up with them dragging unnecessary discussion because they can't be controlled and bee things will begin to come out about bitcoin from them which will be discouraging to you if you're nit really confident enough with your understanding of what bitcoin really is.

Did someone say investing in Bitcoin is silly?

That's almost a constant response from most related cases oike this to see the response being Yes.

Unfortunately, even as having your own opinion on something like bitcoin is good, not all opinions are reasonable and formed from a place of knowledge. Some opinions especially the ones formed personally, or borrowed opinions are wrong.
I have a friend who said that investing in stable coins is better for them than investing in bitcoins because the price of bitcoin can fall, and they will lose their money.
I have also had someone who had a very small number of bitcoins that they believe will be able to make them rich. This person believes that there is no need to keep buying bitcoins when they already have some in their wallet.

I have heard great conversations about bitcoins and I have very ignorant comments about bitcoin from supposedly intellectuals. That people who I hold in high esteem and believe that before they jump into making ignorant comments about bitcoin they would take time to research on it and draw their own conclusion rather than follow public sentiments.

The most ridiculous comments I have heard about bitcoin from these intellectuals is that bitcoin is not real money and because it is not real money, its value is worthless. They would go on to say that the reason why the price increases is because of the attention people are giving to it. And they believe that it won't be long until the government totally shut down bitcoin and every related to that it won't be even discussed or used in the public space. When I try to remind them about El Slavdor, they dismiss me and say that they'll abandon bitcoin and either return to the use of the dollar or apply to be a member of BRICS. I still get flabbergasted with these comments.

Gather up with friends related to cryptocurrency investments and projects is so fun, creative, and could be productive because you are can change ideas and information you've been having during your investment, and of course, that lesson and mistakes can be shared with your friends and seek for their insights seems like a data gathering and learning from their experience, every time we made a mistake I talk to each other that treat those as part of the expensive mistake or lesson that if you repeat you will called as stupid. Some friends late already but we keep them up its never been too late you can catch up.

The transition to decentralised, peer-to-peer financial systems from centralised, fiat currencies. In many ways, Bitcoin best represents this transformation.

Currently, some people I've interacted with have called investing in Bitcoin "silly." But as you can see, there have always been detractors to every breakthrough idea, from the steam engine to cellphones. Its in the nature of paradigm-shifting breakthroughs to drive us to reevaluate our deeply held ideas.

Ignoring Bitcoin' potential and underlying blockchain technology is equivalent to ignoring the influence of online communication in the 1990s. In addition to digital currency, the goal is to establish a more open, effective, and inclusive global financial system. However, always keep in mind that with enormous potential also comes great volatility. Be prudent with your investments, be aware of the hazards, and continue the dialogue. History is being made right in front of us!

When you are discussing about BTC with people who don't understand how it works, they are surely going to have crazy or silly assumptions. I don't really talk to people about BTC, the people who are close to me already know about the network, some of them use it and the others are not just interested. The crazy thing that so many people think about BTC is that it is going to make them very rich, and when they realize that it doesn't work that way, they lose their interest. Some of these sound more like people who have heard correct statements but they are paraphrasing it so the correctness is somewhat lost. This is a common thing in technical matters.

For example take the second statement "bitcoin payments happen in seconds", a bitcoin transaction does propagate through the network in mere seconds so in a way the first part is correct since a transaction reaches the receiver in seconds; however, the confirmation takes time which is the part where it becomes finalized (or irreversible).

Or the third statement "bitcoin relies on middlemen to pass payments along a route" replace the phrase "middlemen" with "peers" and the term "along a route" with "to other peers" and it is a correct statement.

Not a lot unless they start talking about the same interest as mine which is cryptocurrencies and mainly in Bitcoin. And luckily with those few meetings and gatherings that I've been with, I can say that there have been relatives of mine that know that I'm into it and asked me if they can also be and I said yes.

IIRC, there's none from my relatives. But from my friends, a friend of a friend did said that Bitcoin is a scam. I just kept quiet for years and I don't know if they are still talking the same thing from what I've heard about them. Just saw a picture of them doing their own business.
Not really crazy and weird but it's annoying when someone who's not an investor and has less to no experience tells that Bitcoin is a scam when they know that I'm into it.
