I'm not in love with the design, but it's alright.

As for the other ones, I don't see why the flag needs to have anything like a map of the earth or of the solar system. It's a flag. Most flags just use symbolism that represents the history of the country, its values, the people that live there, a stylized representation of some aspect of the countries geography, etc.

Unless we're really afraid that the aliens won't find us.

what is that? Yeah we know that picture is flag of our planet, Earth. So, not only our country that had a flag, but also our planet. Are you waiting any visitors in your home now? From your family in Yupiter maybe? or from Andromeda galaxy?  Grin

I am curious, if NASA have met aliens and invite them to dinner, and made the flag for earth so aliens won't get lost in their way to our planet  Grin

It's kind of scary come to think of it. I mean, it's like those futuristic movies that depict the future with space ships and flying cars... Maybe we need this flag when we destroy our home (EARTH) and go on in search of other planets to inhabit, you now, like conquistadors did, or American astronauts, it kind of creeps me out

To be honest, this flag seems better. I like the design and it represents shape of the earth.

Are there any other planets in the solar system that has a flag?

You can read the reply before, I said maybe NASA will make the flag for other planets in our solar system. It means the other planets haven't had it yet.  Smiley

Obviously, they will care for the resources they can gather in our planet. Sure we have a flag, and that flag represents us being the citizens of Earth, but do you think aliens would care about that? No.

So how do you know aliens don't care about that? Have you met them? The flag is identity of Earth, and I don't see something wrong about that. But if you don't like the design, you can complain to NASA or the other authorities.  Smiley

The "aliens" are created by NASA in underground laboratories, the extraterrestrials hail from planets beyond Antarctica and the space is in your head.  Grin

Unlike many other extraterrestrial races in science fiction, the Aliens do not have a technological civilization and are predatory creatures with no higher goals than the propagation of their species and the destruction of lifeforms that could pose a threat. This creature has no specific name, and has been referred to most often onscreen, and in the credits of each film, simply as the Alien.

What exactly is the point of having a flag for a planet? Are there any other planets in the solar system that has a flag? If other intelligent life-forms found our planet, they wouldn't care for the flag. Obviously, they will care for the resources they can gather in our planet. Sure we have a flag, and that flag represents us being the citizens of Earth, but do you think aliens would care about that? No.

P.S., the flag isn't that nice. I prefer James W. Cadle's flag.

EDIT: corrected a single word.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Earth#/media/File:Flag_of_Earth.svg

The flag of Earth already exists, see link above (or previous posts).

Don't propose to have a new idea that actually just overlaps an idea from someone else! The idea of 'we're all citizens of earth' is a great one. Presenting ideas as novel that have actually already been diseminated is not a great one. What work, in the spirit of "one world", has been done? Is it more than just branding and altruistic intent? I've only just seen the real Flag of Earth after googling it following reading your post. It would be great if more work was done to actually spread the idea. It seems like it might just be spread around the small group of people that created it...which makes it just a hobbyists idea.

Sorry for my cynicism but too often I see people claiming credit for some grand idea when 1) they're not the first people to come up with it, and 2) they do very little to actually spread the idea, which is what earns them the credibility of having created it.

I have seen the old earth flags in google after Mr. Wilikon posted them. The most important point is, you wouldn't know about the earth flag if you didn't read this post right? There are many events was happened that maybe we haven't heard about that.  Anyway I agree with your words about the grand idea.

That flag looks like a 8 year old made it. what a joke.

It sounds you can make a better one

Unless they can scan multiple billions of billions of star systems in full 3D (up, down etc) there will be very little chances they will know were we'll be located exactly just with this flag. Also keeping pluto on the flag as a planet is a good assurance to mess up with their google cosmo-map system, just in case...

 Cheesy

And it will be harder if Earth doesn't have any flag right? I think the flag is not only tell something out in space where Earth is, but it will be the identity of our planet. I guess NASA will make the flag for other planets in our solar system.  Grin

This must be the ugliest most short sighted unimaginative laziest designed flag for planet earth ever made... A circle of 7 ring noses... Why 7? 7 continents? Or is it 6 continents? Why is the center hollow? Hollow Earth Theory?

well maybe because they knew what my lucky number is  Grin

Looks better than op's. But pluto shouldn't be there. Smiley
And a flag that gives information where we are can be a bad idea.

The flag represented what Earth and where it is. So, maybe if aliens are really exist, they will know where the location of Earth is from the flag.

Of course the classic James W. Cadle’s Earth flag

We are approaching a new world order and planet earth needs its first flag to represent us all , apparently they have found one. No we don't need a flag though, as I said they know something we don't you will have to ask them what it will distinguish us from  Tongue

Well we are not aware they have found other 'alien' life yet but we are not aware of a lot they want to keep from us are we? That is the beauty of secrets and being kept in the dark in a state of ignorance it is bliss. Sure there would have been leaks if alien life had been found though?

Yeah its suck to be ordinary people in society who know nothing what was happened in our country and our space.  Sad

You have read scientists statistics, we have something in the region of ''75 thousand million million'' stars/suns in our universe and they reside in around 400 billion galaxies the number of planets is uncountable, We are one planet with life and how many more are there?  Roll Eyes We are not alone that is a statistical impossibility, but... How vast is the universe we will never even get out of our one galaxy in our life time until new tech is created but we could have destroyed ourselves by then. Nasa has a world flag because they know something we don't know  Tongue The guy was right above the ''flower of life''

I don't think NASA (or any official entity) has chosen this flag to represent Earth - fortunately, because it's quite ugly. Tongue

Also, do we actually need a flag? What will it distinguish us from? It's not like we've found any alien life yet, and even when/if that happens, I'm sure there will be a lot more differences than just the colors and patterns in a piece of cloth.
