i prefer Vertcoin. Seems to be a nice value for its mineability.
I dont do much sociallizing, so its hard to know any background for me.
I just look on value. and comfort level.

Fokus on 2nd coins, cause 1st gen coins can´t compete with bitcoins. They are clones and shitcoins.

In terms of premine it's hard to say as some coins have hidden instamine.

- Most marketable name, brilliant developer, multi-coin wallet.
Dogecoin (DOGE)
- Most organized and active community. Wide consumer appeal.
Litecoin (LTC)
- Original scrypt coin. Friends in high places. Excellent developers.

Of course NXT. The features are just amazing and unique. The most other coins are just clones with no really additionally features compared to Bitcoin. Darkcoin is also interesting.
