i will check the roadmap myself, the team and developers developing the project, if their roadmap shows more products being produced for the future then i will join them. other than that we need to take a closer look at them and their seriousness, are they listed on Coinmarketcap?? if it is registered in CMC then it is very potential is a Great Project
The right practice to have when you are into this business, before getting into any project knowing the grounds and all the potentials is necessarry, by reading the roadmap and following the developers information, it will give you good hints if the project is good and really serious with what they are promising to provide, it's not a game where first to invest will be the gainers not a type of ponzi but serious business that have long term goals.
You are right, many projects can be very good at first glance, in fact they even have a good whitepaper, but everything lies in good research, if there is no good research one should hardly take a risk, currently I prefer to read NFT game projects that have a nature Presale and public sale, because it guarantees that I can win by being in a whitelist and then sell in a public sale, if I like the project a lot, I simply make the investment when the chart is in the dip and I start playing when the game comes out Anyway, if the project turns out to be good, playing is also won.
What seems good to someone might be bad for another, In my perspective, the coin to watch out for is Raca and Polytrade, the project has made quite a wave in recent times, and they are just starting, the potential is quite unmeasurable as Polytrade just start is decentralised activities and Raca will just start is game which is played to earn. The project that I am following is Mintlayer. This is a decentralized ecosystem for bitcoin. They will have a pre-launch vote on Origins platform - the Sovryn protocol. For the most part, I am always interested in projects that make a lot of sense and positively affect the general operating environment of bitcoin. I'm keeping a close eye on their preparations on discord, if they can launch Testnet first then that's very good news to attract attention. https://www.mintlayer.org/Whats make its special, i mean rather than another DeFi products, i see the website are prety nice but i failed to catch its unique value. Particl have just released an anonymous and trustless decentralised eBay, see my post here. Satoshi was trying to work out how to do this before he disappeared and these folks have figured it out.
It also lets you atomically swap coins between blockchains, not ERC20 tokens within ethereum, but say Monero for Bitcoin, in a totally trustless and secure way. I think this might be the first working atomic swap DEX.
