Altcoins are too many for my liking I prefers having fewer valuable coin that will stand a test of time not the ones that will always correlate with bitcoin most of the times, this will makes choice of investment streamlined to the juicy coins.
The disadvantage of it is one day most of these altcoins will fail, ICOs will fail and the cheap coins that aren't getting attention will be dead.
The rest will remain stable and healthy as long they are getting a good volume in different exchanges.

I think one of the most valuable and important disadvantages of alternative cryptocurrency is that they are totally bounded with the project of their, and if the project falls, almost 99% possibility that token would not survive too
There are many I want to address but the disadvatage of the altcoin in general is there's too many of it, I think there should be a proper screening first or an evaluation before launching a coin, so that scam coins will be reduced too.
As per observation, one of the disadvantages of altcoin is that during the ICO sale, price value is still fine but once it was on the exchange sites, the tendency is that the value will drop from the previous price where it will took a very long time for it to recover and for some, it hasn't get back and continues to drop.
I feel that the biggest drawback of altcoins is the high possibility of their creators scamming people in clever ways which is not the same with Bitcoin. Popular altcoins like Ethereum, Ripple etc have already established themselves are completely legit, but there are cases of popular altcoins scamming people like Bitconnect etc which is a shame. This is why I always suggest diversifying your funds whenever possible to minimize the chances of getting scammed.
If altcoin has an advantage for the future, I think it will not hurt. but if altcoin is made only for instantaneous gain, then this would be a drawback for altcoin. Essentially all things that have the potential will continue to be adopted.
The most interesting thing is that the most cryptocurrency in General has the potential. And the rest of the tokens and in General any company that issued a token is a company that began to enjoy the fruits of cryptocurrency, thereby contributing to this world. I think someday everyone will begin to globally enjoy the fruits of crypto-currencies and blockchain systems

I don't like that altcoins depend so much on Bitcoin. If Bitcoin goes down, then almost every alt coin will also go down.
I agree that the crypto currency market depends heavily on bitcoin. But in most cases, altcoins fall that are not backed up by a real product.
We need quality projects that will have their own microeconomics

Most of the altcoins can be manipulated easily and it's been used by the so called whales to to earn big profits at the expense of small traders and newbies. Another disadvantage of the altcoins is it seems to follows the price of bitcoin resulting in the market downtrend. Altcoins must show some degree of indepen3dence so it can go upward without following the bitcoin price.

Different new coins are certainly cool, but a lot of them just do not have a future and most of these projects will disappear after a while, so be very careful when choosing where to invest.
Altcoins are real-time projects like other crypto money. The disadvantage is that it will lose value in a very short time, Uncertainty & Volatility,Not accepted widely ,Difficult to understand, Lack of knowledge,Scaling, No way to reverse the payment,Can lose your wallet.Some of the altcoins are used to be a scam and that's one of the disadvantage of it.
The disadvantage is no phisic that we can hold and look like gold. And when the altcoin is lose, where will we complain?
I think that the disadvantages of investing in Altcoins is the risk. In my opinion, investing in Altcoin has a higher risk of losing than investing in Bitcoin. Because, we know that Bitcoin is the King of Crypto and its value might never reach zero. Altcoins on the other hand, might not even be listed and have a value. It is because of too much Altcoins existing in the market, which is also a disadvantage.
I think the biggest disadvantage of altcoin is that the price fluctuation is too big and it is easy to lose its value. This causes investors not to dare to hold altcoin for a long time. Many people buy altcoin only for short-term benefits.
For me the only disadvantage for altcoins are the risk. For a lot of altcoins and their projects its very hard to get some attention. I saw a lot of good project who failed because they just put to less work in the marketing campaign. So with altcoin you just have more risk to loose. But if they gain value, you will make a much better profit!
In relations bitcoins,the disadvantage is that a lot of them are still at infancy,some do not even have a minimum viable product which means they may end up being a failed project. Some will eventually be delisted if no further development takes place with them
Alright, that's why the competition of altcoin is about who is living in the future and which is not. The development progress become the main concern on this stage and how the majority of failed altcoin has ended with no development result at all. This is the disadvantage of the altcoin itself. 
The ability to create an unlimited number of coins leads to the fact that the black market and scammers are developing. Of course it has a great influence and dependence on either bitcoin or ether, other coins are not a token payment means. And of course high volatility.
