This is weird I have two rigs and this never happened to me.
H81 has no issues but other mobos have sometimes
what are you using?

Yeah I have the H81 on the rigs.
Yeap that's why you have no trouble with this, I have 16 H81 and if there is powe blackout or something they just power on and continue mining without zero interaction.

Elemination of the need 4 such devices - use a big KVM-Switch.
on 95 rigs ? not an option

use IPMI Tongue
Isn't it for remote controlling the machine? How can it fake the monitor?
I can remotely shut down machine when it freezes or for any other reason and power it up  again, the only issue is that ASUS H81M-k mobos in some cases need monitors plugged in to turn on properly

Those $2 converters definately don't work for the RX 470/480 cards I tried. Don't know if using resistors would help however. Dont have any on hand.

All my rigs are working with those 2$ HDMI to VGA converters without any mods/resistor , just  plugged to the main GPU and all my rigs are RX470 on windows 10.

Really? I guess the one they've sent me from Chinese was defective. Will order another one.

Worth to give that a shot hopefully this wil also fix my problem

On linux sometimes it create problem as well but it is simple work around. Change default GPU to mainboard and problem solved (maybe it will help on windows as well?)

The only time I've had to worry about this, I used a spare HDMI -> VGA converter like those pictured in previous posts - did NOT need to use resistors.

As a general rule though, it's not an issue - as I generally run mining machines on LINUX which DOES NOT HAVE THIS LAME ISSUE.

Personally I'd do this:
https://www.amazon.com/1080P-Female-Adapter-Video-Converter/dp/B00OFQUDR0/ref=sr_1_22?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1482715765&sr=1-22&keywords=hdmi+to+vga

At $2.61 each with Free shipping

Then I'd follow the directions here:
https://rumorscity.com/2013/12/06/how-to-create-dummy-plugs-for-your-graphics-cards/

The resistors are pennies a piece so then you just need to sit down and spend a little time with your wire cutter and hot glue gun
I don't think there will be the need of resistors when the plug is converting the signal, it should work as is, but I already bought 75ohm resistors so just testing is left. The only thing I don't get is that I plugged resistors dirextly to mobo VGA pins but nothing happened, I know i'm missing an importent point here can someone explain ?

But where is logic if one can use this item for 2$ to trick the rig why there are dummys worth of 15$? What is the difference?

Asking the right question. Size and looks maybe?
it doesn't make sense, who cares about size (when actually there's only a small difference) when you save 12$ on each rig
