I see it as an interim step until more mobile wallets are available. Bitcoins are worthless if they are only hoarded rather than being used to trade with, so helping to put them to use is a good thing.

It will take years before a mobile wallet takes off. Look at Google Wallet for example, I think a Debit card is the way to go. Grin

yeah, im sure it is more complicated than that but the general idea I think is great.

I bet some older folks have already thought and maybe came up with something.. Would like to hear from more experienced people on the fallbacks..

It might be a step back but businesses aren't going to implement a whole new payment system for just one currency when swiping a Card is 10 times easier and currently implemented.

Exactly right Smiley

We are talking about those small sized shops that won't update their systems because they cannot afford them. A plastic bitcoin card would be way to bring bitcoin to them.

I think the bitcoin debit card is fully loaded with bitcoin. When going to stores who are not implementing bitcoin payment terminals, you swipe the bitcoin debt card and the card issuers immediately convert the bitcoin from the balance of the card to fiat then debt to the merchants' account. It may be tipping point to get bitcoin adopted by masses.

Using a plastic card to spend Bitcoins is actually a bit of a step back.

But sometimes a tech has to take one step back to take two steps forward.

It is bootstrapping.

In 10 years from now if Bitcoin is big, those cards will be trash.

But if I was a miner mining 3 years ago with a fat bitcoin wallet, I sure would like one of those cards today!

An actual plastic card?

I guess it would be handy on areas or whole countries or small stores.

But with NFC payments coming everywhere there will be no need.

The bolded may be true but the average American doesn't even know what NFC is lol

That's true. I actually learned that google had a similar pay method to apple pay from long ago but no one cared.

Qr codes too would be a card killer.

Morally against debt cards IMO.

 Huh

Please share, personally I think this is what can jumpstart mass adoption.
