I remember reading about it in wikipedia when it first came out but didn't become immersed until it hit the mainstream press a few months ago.

My Brother  Grin

He was obsessed at the time. I think he lost all his coins gambling though, so I've taken over his legacy hah  Cool

A lot of what brought me to Bitcoin was the lack of a coherent argument against their plausibility as a transactional currency. A lot of folks have written editorials arguing for the dim prospects for Bitcoin; none of which have been compelling. On the other hand, there is a powerful narrative for why Bitcoin will prosper.

Heh, 4chan's /g/ board introduced Bitcoin to me. I really didn't care for it when it was posted until the great crash a couple of months back or so (distant memory). Reddit also improved my knowledge about Bitcoin and the other alternatives, especially Litecoin.

long-time lurker, first-time poster. About a year ago or so ago, I saw more and more pictures of people holding up signs with btc addresses. *cough* r/girlsgonewild . After seeing how quickly people were picking it up, taking an interest and becoming evangelists, it just made a lot of sense to dive in and learn how to swim.

I'd be interested to hear about what peeked your interest in Bitcoin? Was it recent press coverage, a friend or family, or something else?

I have a friend who is bitcoin mining, on a 5850 back in August of 2012. I was Nvidia all the way and did not care for bitcoin mining at the time, but when he bought 2 5970 to mine and sold the 5850 to me and I did nothing with it for about 3 months but in January 2013 I decided to try it out. now I have about 8.6 GH/s mining in my house.

A friend of mine told me about it back in 2010. I followed it and mined for a bit, but then the crash of 2011 happened and I lost interest. My friend and I were thinking about putting $50 into bitcoins just to see what would happen once it dropped down to $3, but we never followed through. We're kicking ourselves now, that's for damn sure.

I used to be an avid Folding@Home guy.  I work for a company in the Supercomputing field and we had lots of servers sitting idle most of the time.  I got us pretty high in the Folding@Home arena and then realized I could be making money doing the same type of work.  It was a no brainer to switch from Folding@Home to Bitcoin.

I've since made several thousands of dollars and am still going strong.

Red about bitcoin on an Exchange for Linden dollars, about 15 months ago. Bought some at the time at around $4,= and forgot about it. Glad I did because I earned well because of it  Smiley

PayPal chargebacks.   I sold items worth $1 only but got 6 chargebacks in 1 day. So I googles if there is a payment system with no chargebacks.  First result is bitcoins.
