I had read about Bitcoin back in 2011 on Slashdot and other geek news sources. I had followed a bit in the background since then, I recognized it as an interesting idea, but I never expected it to become what it has become, so I didn't start mining until late.

Then in February this year, BFL ads running on Slashdot got me interested in mining. Fortunately, instead of buying BFL hardware, I listened to nobody, and bought for US$ 6000 of GPUs. I mined about 35 BTC with them, turned them into much more by buying AM shares as much as I could while mining, I got the first shares at 0.7, now they are worth 2.5.

Now I use bitcoins in my everyday life to pay for my goods using an OKPAY credit card that I load with bitcoins, and I pay online whenever I can pay with bitcoins to buy stuff.

Welcome aboard!

Forgot to add, the main draw was that this is decentralized and therefore, it's value and price cannot be affected by any one powerful organization.

It seemed interesting. I didn't really know what it was about and I read some pages and looked at some intro videos and guide videos.

I started a very similar thread yesterday. Either OP is trying to hijack it Wink or he likes to ask the same questions on new threads? Roll Eyes

Neither actually, just missed your thread, if it gets merged that's fine, perhaps even have hopefully one of the mods sticky your thread ala an introduction thread would be useful.

I think would be better if we all keep responding in the thread from yesterday...otherwise it gets messy and we miss responses

Bitcoin is something new to me and even though i have read a lot of info circulated throughout the net, it is always my pleasure to be part of a popular forum community and having direct interaction with other bitcoin enthusiasts. I eat myself for the fact that i was not that interested the first time i heard of bitcoins. Now, i'm and eager to learn and take advantage of the full of it.

As the title states - What brought you to bitcointalk and your interest in bitcoins?

For me it was a friend of mine who's been lurking on bitcoins for a couple years now to see if it bitcoin could ascertain adoption, and after the announcements of bitcoin atm's and adoption from Wordpress, Wikipedia among others has given it more social proof standing I've finally taken the jump into the pool and I'm here to learn and am in it for the long ride.

I joined bitcointalk which is obvious as anybody be it original miners, business or hobbyist, are here and its the number one resource for bitcoins in my mind.

On a side note I believe Mt Gox among several other exchanges are like the early search engines of the day aka netscape and once we finally have the google of bitcoin exchanges come out, who knows how to run and properly manage an exchange, I beleive this will help stabilize (like the major stock exhanges they get ddos attacks but you never here about it because they dont go down ala a wikileak setup as if you take one down a backup takes it's place and you never notice)  some of the volatility  as bitcoin is still a baby.
