Everyone is trying to find reasons for why the dip happened, what have you heard?
I have heard different things; 1. people sell out to take profits so that they can have a nice Christmas, 2. smart money coming in is playing with the price, 3. an exchange in asia broke down and caused fear.
I am !!NOT!! saying that either of these three is the reason, I am just trying to get other perspectives for what people have heard cause (could have caused) the dip..

As for me it is clear thing that cryptocurrencies were overpumped. I am telling first of all about Bitcoin. Advertisement, information distribution, high demand and positive forecasts made the whole this thing.

The demand is getting low because of holliday season which bring them to sell their bitcoin. This is only a temporary affect in bitcoin price. After hollidays we will see the price will goes up again for there are still a lot of people believe in bitcoin.

In my opinion the reason is that whales are playing with BTC price, they want to decrease the currency's price so they can buy cheaper and increase their balance. At same time it's a good opportunity for new people to enter the game and start holding their first BTCs.

I think that what happened was a natural factor related to the question of buying and selling, there was a lot of sale by many people, who did it to get their hands on profits. These things will always happen. The tricky thing is that a lot of people panic, and end up selling.

One reason is again that BCH steal a lot of hashing power from BTC mining. The other is that the bitcoin price rise to fast to high in the past weeks, so a correction was important for the value!

I heard someone sold about USD $6bn worth of BTC, which caused the scare that spread through all markets.

I think so and bought BCH. Its normal for bitcoin to dump and its called correction, people are just panic without realizing that this is a great opportunit, and now bitcoin are slowly pumping and will make our new year amazing.

Well, I did heard a whole lot of reasons, but the truth remains that non of us knows what really caused the dip.
Some people accused Bitcoin Cash as been the cause, they said that  investers, sellers or traders shifted their  interest & bitcoin to bitcoin cash.
I also heard that the recent hack and stolen bitcoins from
online trading exchange sites could have contributes to it.
While others states that it could be as a influence of Christmas holdlays.

I think bitcoin has fallen in the last few days because retail investors are selling bitcoin to spend money for Christmas. After seeing the bitcoin fall behind, the big investors have been jumping into bitcoin because it is at a very low price. This is how the whale's behavior has been known for a long time. Those who are too anxious have sold so much bitcoin and suffered heavy losses.

Because of weak-hands maybe yes. Maybe because of christmas shopping people needed money and wanted fiat money. Then there had been a chaos and on media they started to put bitcoin crashed news. After that people were afraid and they started to sell bitcoin.

I think that it was correction as the bitcoins prices has increased too much within very few months and that was followed by many people panic sell as they get scared when prices fall so maybe this the reason or another reason can be that whales dump large amounts of bitcoins.

ETH is the REASON!

This only goes with love.. But what the fuck?

Ethereum? What wrong has ethereum did? Came on, ethereum is the #2 on the total marketcap, and no one switched all their bitcoin's money to ethereum.

You clearly do not understand how the market works, and in any case, maybe you should wrote in there "Bitcoin cash" instead of ethereum, if you meant that.

More supply of bitcoin in the market makes the price plummeting. And it was caused by us, who keep on selling their bitcoins that are scared enough and thinks that bitcoin will be dead because of rumors and FUDs that are being spread online.

There was nothing to hear really. It's a correction. This has happened several times this year. It will happen several times again. It's just the way the markets work. People taking profits. Price drops and the weak hands panic sell out of fear of losing their entire investment. Then we do it all over again.

Hello! I think all of this reasons have sense to be a real! I don't sure that only one reason effects on the market! I am sure that is a complex of reasons!
1. Holidays
2. Whales and people who puppet this market

1. I doubt it. Every year people were predicting Christmas dumps and I've always taken these news with a grain of salt. Remember that BTC is worth so much right now that you could buy gifts for a pretty large family with no more than 0.1 BTC. Why would anyone exchange 15+ thousand USD and block themselves from potential profits just to buy gifts for a fraction of that amount?
2. Futures? I think it could cause some fluctuations, but they are making money anyway. They just have to predict the price, they aren't buying or selling at exchanges and this is what moves the value.
3. You must mean youbit. That exchange wasn't big enough to cause a correction.

1. normal pull back for profits, what goes up fast comes down fast.
2. coinbase opening up bch to public, new blood is buying into bch over btc
3. whales cashing some btc into other coins especially bch and xrp
4. negative news about insider action at coinbase
5. THE PROPHET saying BCH is the way next 2 months
