Two of reasons I get is that it is difficult to purchase and use. Those problems are making advancements right now.  I think the millenials will be the strongest group as regular consumers/users as the markets grow since they were raised on technology. Younger people seem to know a lot more about it since they get a lot of their information online instead of from the MSM.  People like my parents, I don't see doing anything with bitcoin anytime soon or at all.

Another reason it it's price volatility. I'm not sure about that one, but if it gets to the point where there are no massive losses in value, and the value steadily grows with only minor dips that concern could be assuaged.

My family thinks it's this dodgy high risk investment like a tech stock.  Some of my friends vaguely remember it as linked to drug markets and actually think that bit coin itself was shutdown buy the government in 2013. My dad is bullish on it due to the all the wall street press.  Even my grandfather told me about how he read a news article.  However,  nobody actually has the slightest clue about how it really works.

So, what do people around you (relatives, co-workers, co-ed, friends...) think about Bitcoin ? Please, indicate your country, so this way I'll be able to make a synthesis about what people think about Bitcoin.

For me : I come from France. My relatives think that it's criminals' tool and that since they can't touch money they don't trust it (note that those same persons are pro-banks, where you can't touch money). My friends think that it is useless and that it has no future. Both of them agree that scare them the most is the Bictoin's price volatibility.

So not so positive Undecided. I hope that you aren't in the same situation.
its sadly must happen to you,i never hear story about that. and my story is,my relatives, co-workers, co-ed, friends and my family is not matter with bitcoin, they think that bitcoin is digital money, and can be traded, its also happen to my friends everywhere,no one think negative about bitcoin.

Most people around me have no clear understanding of what bitcoin is in the first place. I have decided to carefully study and outline a few thing s that will help me teach the people and the society I come from have basic knowledge about these precious coins. Other friends who have heard about it are interested in trading having known the benefits it carries along. It is mixture of understanding and total lack of no how for my people.

...

Why just an hour or so ago I was at my bank (USA) pulling some FIAT$ out of my account.  I know the teller, so I asked him if he knew anything about Bitcoin or if anyone ever asked him about it.  He had never even HEARD of Bitcoin, I had to give him the "15 second" description (digital money, cheap transfer).  He still looked befuddled...

I am still at just TWO people who know anything about it, just one friend with a real stake (> $5.00 worth of BTC).  So, it looks like it is going to take some more time for it to catch on in a BIG way.

Well my dad likes to have bitcoins for just to send money in other country, because you don't need to fill a form or write about your personal work or other things.
In other hand my friends knows about it some they do bitcoin, but the other just don't do it because they don't have time for it and they are not interested about it.

Thank you everyone to have replied here. Thanks to your testimonies, one of the biggest problem to Bitcoin mass adoption is that it is quite bad understood. I think that it will act like computers or cellphones or even cars before. People will need time to adapt to this technology revolution.

Most of the close family are into Bitcoin too, but my people at work think I am bat shit crazy and it's all Monopoly money used for scams on the internet. I had to sell a coin to try

to demonstrate that it has actual value. Now most of them own bitcoins and they get the whole fuzz. You still find the odd fiat slaves, following banks like sheep.... but I leave them

to do what they think is right... I still buy a few pints with bitcoins for them, and are winning the fight with each round of beers.  Grin

I`m in same situation like u, people around me thinking that is some virtua,l imaginary thing and that purpose of bitcoin is just to scam people and take real money from them. Well with some people I made some progress but they still didnt join in this bitcoin world. One day when i win some huge jackpot (cause i gamble with my coins) i will show them. They always asking for some proofs and some real things, I believe i will soon be able to show them what they wish to see, and maybe that will convince them that bitcoin is a real thing!!!

I've told some people around me about it but they don't seem to be interested or they don't understand how it works exactly.
I've suggested to start out with faucets and opening up a wallet and read more about it but I think lack of interest is holding them back.

None of my friends understand the technology behind it, and just thinks it some kind of gimmik. Sad really, but I think I'll be the one smiling in the end ;P

They don't understand it and don't want to waste time trying to understand it. Even my father who I badgered since 2011 thought it was a scam till he saw it on Bloomberg TV; even he thinks it will collapse soon saying, "Governments won't allow a monetary system to exist that they can't control."  Mostly I see anger and frustration in the faces of those I broach the topic to, sometimes bewilderment or dismissal.  Bitcoin is simply beyond their reach at the moment. It will take a younger generation to understand it.

I have recently told my mom about it and she seemed really interested in it. Heck she even told me about that Australian guy, the one saying that he's Satoshi, she's the one who told me about it when I came home last night. She seems to be wanting to keep up with it and read about it online. I think she's slowly adapting and I couldn't be more proud.

They're totally clueless and I am sure they are not interested. Making money online is a concept they'll never understand or they just refuse to understand because of the past scams circulated online.

Most people I know think that bitcoin has no future and that wont become mainstream ever. The problem is, they don't understand its technology, so I try to explain to them what bitcoin is actually. When explaining bitcoin, you need to pick the words carefully, so the listened doesn't get bored. All you need to do is make the people curious. How? Tell them that they can become rich and that they missed many chances to become rich Smiley
