Still remember with South Korea at the 2002 World Cup? They were able to qualify into the semifinals after beating Italy in the round of 16 and Spain in the quarter-finals. Despite the many controversies at that time, but in my opinion South Korea is also included in the row of the most memorable underdog stories.
A few years ago when Leicester won the Premier League won the title at 5000:1 odds got me interested in what you all consider the best underdog story of sports and what were the gambling odds if you can find them.?

the recent match between Ruiz and Joshua can be considered as the greatest underdog story, it's much better than the Douglas Tyson match because Tyson was counted out although he was struggling to get up, whereas on Ruiz and Joshua, Joshua is up but give up fighting, this means he can't fight Ruiz and cannot take his power.
There are few underdog stories that stuck in my mind.

But winning long tournament of 38 matches is something different and unbeleavable. We can dig in the history and find small teams winning top leagues. And one underdog story which happened recently. It's St Louis Blues winning NHL. Just in January they were last team on the table and in the second part of the season they made an incredible run.

Last time of course a few days ago when Liverpool vs Barcelona. many people certainly expect that Barcelona will quilfy to the final and win th champions league, even Lionel Messi is very confident champions trophies will be taken again to Camp Nou, Luis Suarez is very bragged not to celebrate when scoring goals at anfield. A very impossible mission for Liverpool because they had to score 4 goals Can be any sporting match, horse racing, etc.

Maybe the story I've experienced in the past has been forgotten, but for tennis and horse racing I'm sure at that point I at least often bet on underdogs because I'm only looking for high odds betting on tennis and horse racing, that way is very opposite when I bet in football, basketball, and also ice hockey. Among all that, I was just happy with the story of betting on a horse race that had a good profit, which initially only had a bankroll of 1mbtc, at least I was able to reach +10mbtc at that time. That is indeed a little money, but I'm happy to be able to achieve that winning.
Mine was in 1996 when a football team came from 4-0 down or something to win the world cup against Brazil.. No one expected that to happen. The best player from the other team that lost cried alot that after the match.

I think Bookmakers wise, Leicester to win the league was probably the greatest underdog story that actually happened. Even Kim Kardashian to become the president of United States has lower odds(2000-1) than Leicester to win the league. It was an incredible run but sadly, I think the bookmakers will be more cautious since that happened and I dont think we will ever see any bookmakers give 5000:1 odds on any event since Leicester win.

One of the biggest sport stories lately surely is from Fifa WorldCup 2018 in Russia. All fans of football enjoyed in many good games in that competition, but almost no one believed that Croatia will play in final. I think odds for Croatia to win WC were around +3000:1, and probably not much less that they will play in final.
Considering that this is very small country with less then 4 million inhabitants, and considering that in three games in a row they played extra time+penalties and managed to win every time surely puts them in history pages of greatest underdog stories.

for me it was the 2004 world series championship redsox won their first championship since 1918 I'm not
a huge fan of RedSox but when they won that world series I felt proud for them no body expected them to win
when the series started.

It is common sense to think first and foremost to Leicester city , I remember people who had bet 20 Gbp for Leicester to win the Premier League with an odd of 500 or 5000 don't remember exactly but I think it was 5000 and a few weeks before the Premier League that year was about to finish these persons were cashing out like 30.000 Gbp because of being afraid that they could have lost it.That is the greatest underdog story for me.
That is also my number # 1 choice, I still can't believe the were able to win the premiership against all those ultra wealthy teams. It only took a $200 bet to win $one million which is ridiculous. I doubt we will see anything like that happen for a very long time.

The odds are really high, AFAIR, it was when Andre Iguodala winning the Finals MVP last NBA finals 2015.
The odds was 125:1 and I really regret that time I did not took that odds, I was with Lebron James winning the finals MVP that time, but they loss.

Well, I wish I had money to bet on that game. But, I doubt people would be betting on underdog teams. It's really exciting to watch games especially when an underdog team is winning. Just like when Mavericks took the championship in their match with Miami way back 2011. It wowed a lot of NBA fans since Dirk Nowitzki was the only star player of Mavericks against the all star team of Miami during that time, won a bet with my friends during that time.
I've seen this on the local football match when people are placing their bets to support their team.
But not all team can win, especially if they don't have a good strategy to prevent the opponent.
I am not too often placing the bets for the underdog team because I don't know what team that I should choose hahaha

I like boxing so I'll remind you all about the famous Tyson vs Holyfield match that dethroned the famous champion and basically ended his career. The odds were 25-1 against Holyfield. This wasn't the greatest underdog story, especially since Holyfield held a title before, so he wasn't a newbie, but still very impressive.
