That was one of the greatest surprise for European football. I still seem to remember all of it.
The game was held on Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal and Portugal were surely the favorite team with their golden boy Ronaldo playing.
Have no idea about tournament odds for Greece. But the final match was too well over 1:100.

Since we are talking in general, I approve much of all the stories presented above. Anything that is considered as having the opportunity to beat an opponent that everyone seems to believe that you can't. I think that's the best underdog story that you could have. Think about it, if you manage to beat an opponent that has a big difference in skill and the audience are siding with only one team, it's going to be an epic game.

The unexpected things that happen in games are the most enjoyable ones.

Denmark winning the UEFA euro championship in 1992 without even qualify for the event!

12 days before the tournament Yugoslavia was disqualified as a result of warfare in the country. The Danish players were already on vacations but ended up winning the tournament, beating both the defending European champions in the semifinals and then the world champions in the final.

There are really rare stories of underdog become champion. Though I have only known some team in locals that has the same stories like this. Probably a game will not determine on how the strong the opponent is because sometimes luck will going to work on a losing team.

Now, probably a championship game in the NBA between toronto and golden state has clearly seen the difference. GSW has the great advantage against the toronto teams. And if happens that toronto will going to win in the championship game then this will be another rare underdog that became a champion story.
