If it's a new one then first i would look into the team, their motivation and ability. Then the innovation of the coin, the plan wheter it's doable or not and the community's response to it. If it's an alt-coin which already being on some exchange then first thing i would look into is the trading volume. If the trading volume is quite high then i would consider investing in it.

Main figures I look at are size of community (or general support of the coin), trading volume and unique features.

this same thing, but i also look at the dev if he is very active, an idiot or he is MIA, if the latter i just avoid investing anything in that coin, i know for fact that without a proper dev support any coin will not last

the replies i read here aren't what i can see to those ico participants, most of them are there to profit after the launch. if the dv released the coin right after and list the coin in exchange, more than 80% of the early investors jump up so high while sending their coins to the exchange. all are aiming to dump their coins along with the bonuses they've got for being and early investor.

What features do you look for when you pick an altcoin to increase in value? Is there a good indicator that an altcoin will do well?

I'm usually follow some altcoin if they have high volume transaction means that they will operated longer just like other well known altcoin
I'm also looking for community feedback before I try to deposit in order to prevent myself for being scam by altcoin project

1. Team (background, motivation, ability to weather hard times to get shit done)
2. Idea (Market potential, why does it have to utilize a [Suspicious link removed]petition)
3. UI/UX (Crypto is notoriously difficult to appreciate and understand how to use)
4. Technology (Do they have something that would take time to copy)

I first see the roadmap of the altcoin because if the coin has the projects to do then only the coin will run in long time,

Inusually only used alt coin as trading tool, bht if a alt coin really want to compete with bitcoin, the coin need to have a useful feature that really different from other coin, some coin got a good feature like fast confirmation and focus on the anonymity, but there are not a lot of alt coin users maybe that is one of the reason there are no alt coin that really booming and can compete with bitcoin

Vocal community, definitive and practical mission statement (stay away from the coins that swear they'll change the world), prime memes all are good indicators of potential profit. Maturity of the coin and personalities backing/running it are also important variables to look at. Current/potential future exchanges highly effect price, too.

It has to be no premine, offer something new for blockchain technology, community is important but not my priority. If the coin is promising then community will grow over time. Developers must be honest and knows what to do, they have to be problem solver and successful in their main area. Price must be reasonable, no overvalued. Basically these are the things I look for before investing.

Im looking at active devs even after the coin was being established for long time. Continous developments and plan are being held at regular basis. And of course, if the volume is active and have an interesting volatility day by day.

Im not looking to any indicator since altcoin investment is really risky.

the most important factor is the community support. if there is a good community for that coin and users are supporting it, then be sure that when that coin hits the market there will be a big demand for it and will cause a rise and this rise can cause more rises and more community support for a good while.

First know the team of the altcoin if they are transparent and sincere to their community, second their project it is achievable or attainable. Then check their road map plan, where the crowdfund or fund goes, then the team of the coin must be updated to their investors.

Like Mark from Gox or Paul from Cryptsy or Alex from Mintpal ?
They all seemed sincere didn't they ?

only profit. and trust me when i say 99% of others around here are also like this, looking for profit which means more bitcoin which in the end translates into more fiat in their pocket after trading.
you can't find much else around here in altcoins world with people only trying to catch a pump before the peak and make a quick 50 to 100% profit in  a couple of hours and get out.
so many don't even look at the coin itself, they just know a name or worst an acronym Cheesy
