We are entering an era of multiple digital currencies, and many of them will survive. Bitcoin is certain to be one of them, but it can't be number one for every factor. Where do you think Bitcoin will stay as number 1
- Store of value
- Services in addition to simple money transfer
- Convenience
- Security
- Investment/speculation
- Safe transfer speed
- Privacy
- Freedom from globalist control
- Other
Bitcoin is currently number one in terms of marketcap, and that will probably be the case for another couple years. I don't think it even makes the top ten in any of the categories you mention.
Store of value: no way, not with all the volatility in the market. Early adopters are OK, and I suppose anyone who buys now and holds for five years will probably be OK, but anyone who bought at the end of 2017 is probably not doing so great today.
Services: Thanks to Coinbase/GDAX, I can trade back and forth between BTC and Fiat. But I can now do that with other coins too. Once I can do that with a coin that is actually positioned for mainstream adoption, that won't be such an advantage for BTC anymore.
Convenience: Well, if you call having to wait an hour for a deposit to clear "convenient," then I guess we're good. It's better than waiting on an ACH to clear your bank, but there are other coins that provide minute-long or even seconds long confirm times.
Investment speculation: Bitcoin loses even on that. In 2017 any early adopters of NEM who sold all at the end of the year would have realized a ROI of over 14,000 percent. DMD Diamond enjoyed better gains in 2017 than BTC did, and those are just two coins.
Privacy: That's a joke. It's even easier to track Bitcoin flow from addresses of interest because it's all on the blockchain. Detectives who know what to look for are getting quite good at this.
Freedom from Globalist control: That's a good one. But if even half of what is
exposed in this article is true, then the up and coming elites, those who might replace the current crop of Globalist Elites, are an even worse bunch of sorry human beings with little to no conscience. No thanks, I'll keep the central banks for now, thank you. At least the current crop of elites is restrained somewhat by having to maintain the appearance of propriety. The up and coming Bitcoin elites, not so much.
Other: Bitcoin as a gateway into the entire cryptocurrency industry provided people with additional financial options and financial hope. Bitcoin currently is the main gateway into that world and as long as it holds this position it has done a good job. If Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general can remain as opportunities for more people to engage with and profit from the world of finance, especially people who cannot benefit so much from the fiat world of finance, then it will have accomplished much good. I hope the doors that I have been able to walk through in the cryptocurrency space remain open to lots of people just like me for years to come.
