Lol.  I wish I had a chip in my head instead of whatever's up there at the moment.  Sometimes it feels like soggy fruit.

Not sure my life would change all that much, but I'd miss this forum a lot.  I had a life prior to registering on bitcointalk and I'd have a life if the forum went kaput tomorrow, though it probably would feel different.  I do spend an ungodly amount of time here, since this is where I get my crypto news, gossip, and drama.  That would be sorely lacking if BCT went bust.

I can totally back that... Anybody who says otherwise is straight-up lying. I'm from what you would call a "Developing country". Last time I checked Unskilled workers make around $4-$7 per day depending on different cities, that's the standard rate.
Yeah, the impact of signature campaigns has got to be incredible if you're from a poorer country.  They're a godsend, I know, but they're also spam magnets.  I have nothing against anyone from those developing countries--I just can't stand reading idiotic posts made from members who can't write.  We've got local boards for such members.  And then there are members whose 3rd, 4th, or whatever language is English and they write incredibly well.

Anyway, people who say sig campaigns pay "pennies" are mistaken in the extreme.

I would think a good majority of the people who are from developing countries and are sig campaigning rely on it to some extent.

I can totally back that... Anybody who says otherwise is straight-up lying. I'm from what you would call a "Developing country". Last time I checked Unskilled workers make around $4-$7 per day depending on different cities, that's the standard rate. This $4-$7 isn't enough to live above the poverty line. These people hardly make it through the month. These are not the people who are good around PCs either, they would lack the basic knowledge of turning on the PC. People who wear these sigs from "developing countries" are people who are doing bitcointalk as a side gig... This side gig can easily pay a bill or two but its nowhere near that it could sustain a Person let alone a whole family for a month. However, if you are in a campaign like Chipmixer then you can sustain a good living style as the cost of living isn't on the upper side. So yeah, just don't assume the Pajeets out there are making a killing by shitposting here. They are trying to cover up for a bill or two that's it.

It would also be pretty sad for everybody else around the world who rely on the income from this forum. I know it's changed a lot of lives of people from developing nations and for many people they earn more from here than they do from their regular jobs if they're even lucky enough to have one at all. I wonder how many people would be plunged into poverty or even worse if the forum disappeared or just their ability to earn via signatures went. Sad to think about really.

This is what I'm curious about. And I wonder how many people are properly dependent on it.

I've seen sig campaign participants saying they pay their rent and all their bills with what they earn. That's pretty alarming. I've been in campaigns that have vanished with zero warning and sometimes pickings elsewhere are extremely slim.

I would think a good majority of the people who are from developing countries and are sig campaigning rely on it to some extent. If you can earn more here than from a regular job then you'd be silly not to try capitalise on that, but remember some people also don't have much of a choice. Campaigns do come and go and they're not as plentiful as they used to be but there's usually always one you can join even if it's a shitcoin campaign, but if you were on a high paying one and that suddenly disappeared then I'm guessing a lot of people would be in bad positions but I'm sure they move on.

As much as I want to get better in the forum (for the forum), at the same time I'm getting tired of it, I want to do something else--I want to do what I want. BUT I am not saying that those times that I've been here are not informative, enjoyable, or exciting because it does.

This is another interesting perspective. There must be people here who feel obligated or compelled to be here rather than finding it fun any more. Either they need to earn or it's simply become a habit they can't break.

If you earn from it and are perhaps dependant on that money then for many it will just be like a regular job. Do you want to have to go to work? Are you happy with where you work? Many aren't but they do it out of necessity, but that's life. If this forum or any job is negatively effecting your life then you should probably look at trying to find something you enjoy doing. Life isn't that much fun if you spend it all working yourself into an early grave and sacrificed doing things you actually enjoy (but again, not everyone has that luxury of living the life they truly want).

If the vanishing will happen soon, then I'm efed up.

Let's be honest, people will think of something else other than this. I, myself, is considering taking an alternative. For now, I'm just preparing for what I need. And this forum helped me a lot. As much as I want to get better in the forum (for the forum), at the same time I'm getting tired of it, I want to do something else--I want to do what I want. BUT I am not saying that those times that I've been here are not informative, enjoyable, or exciting because it does.

So once I prepared the things that I needed, I'll invest my time on that, but it doesn't hurt to visit the forum from time to time just to see what's going on.

As I've said before, I would have no option but to kill myself even if Chipmixer signature campaign merely shut down as I am a broke bum and cannot afford to live without my Chipmixer dregs so the forum shutting down would be disastrous for me. I would probably have to find a way to kill myself twice if that happened.

The forum somehow ceasing to exist or even bitcoin going completely tits up and being replaced by something else is something I've thought about and that happening would leave a pretty big gap in my life as sad as that may sound. Both bitcoin and this forum have consumed my life since I joined in with them both in 2013 and there's been a lot of ups and downs during that time. I can live on very little and am wise with my money so it wouldn't be the end of the world but I'm incredibly gratefully for the coins I earn via the forum and it's basically going to ensure that I don't ever need to get a mortgage for a house and can buy - or preferably build - one with my savings and that was always one of my goals when I got involved with bitcoin as I absolutely hated the thought of taking out extortionate loans and paying for something several times over. The fact that you can essentially earn from anywhere in the world as long as you've got an internet connection is also a pretty huge plus and another goal of mine was to have a bit of money left over to go travelling so I'll probably try take advantage of that next year and do some globe-trotting whilst still being active on the forum. I'd much rather be sat by a pool or beach somewhere with a laptop than sat in front of my PC in shitty old rainy England  Grin.

Here's to next year and the upcoming bitcoin halving which is at least one thing to be optimistic about.

In regards to the subject field of this thread, it would significantly affect my life in both ways [good and bad]...
- This forum has been more than a family to me:
  • I never thought I'll learn more lessons on this forum alone than in my real life.
  • I bumped into both great people [valuable assets] and some not so great ones [scammers, spammers and etc...].
  • It allowed me to save enough money to buy my first car 2 years ago[100% of the funds were taken from my earnings on this forum] and a few other things...
  • It helped me significantly in improving my English [still not perfect].
  • Changed me into someone that reads way more than I used to be [when I wake up, before I sleep and whenever I have some free time at work/home] and that resulted in me gaining some weight but it's fine Cheesy
  • To summarize the above things: "This forum is responsible for turning me from a boy into a man."

would you simply sigh and keep on trucking elsewhere unimpeded?
I wouldn't.

Bitcoin = Financial freedom
I read a lot of news regarding the crypto market which influences the market prices on various sections which helps me a lot to understand the price movement for my daily trading activities. So if this forum vanishes I will be making a lot fewer profits than the current one.

The next one will be scams related to phishing and wallets, there is no other better place than bitcointalk to enquire about a new service.

Am I the only one who is eager to open the bitcointalk forum at the start of the day instead of the social media?

No, I'm the same. I stopped using Facebook because of the data mining / surveillance capitalism. More than this though, I like the breadth of discussions here, and the fact that we are exposed to opposing views rather than channelled into meticulously curated echo chambers. It is always important in life to challenge your preconceptions and what you consider to be established truth. We can do that here across a wide range of subjects, whilst still sharing a universal common interest in crypto.

In fact, all living things and things created from them will one day disappear. So I think that will also happen on the bitcointalk.org, bitcoin and altcoin. But I hope that the bitcointalk.org forum can last at least until I can still move my fingers to write and my eyes can still see.

The bitcointalk.org forum has provided a number of benefits for most users. Even when we realize that forums value our work and pay more than we can get in real work. That is why we are worried about its sustainability.

Concerns about the sustainability of the forum may not only be felt by the OP, but quite a lot of other users are starting to feel the forum wont be there forever. But my mind is interested to think that, as long as the forum is still there and still provide benefits to its users, until then we can still use it to do business, earn money, develop knowledge and many other things that are useful for ourselves and the community.

I dont think that all users of the bitcointalk.org forum are people who have no real work outside the forum or are unemployed. Even if the forum has to disappear, then they can return to pursue their work in real life.

I dont know what will happen to bitcoin and the bitcointalk.org forum in 1-10 or 20 years, but now is the right time to determine what will be done by users who have no real work when the forum must be destroyed. Until then, we will have another job.
Bitcointalk.org only crash forum where many people try to get attention from moderator by report any one else without create new ideas and give knowledge for other to understand with bitcoin progress, just this way to be higher level bitcointalk account forum with report other person?

It would be really sad thing. In all these years spent on this forum, Bitcointalk become important part of my life.
Same like others, I would get lot of free time. In first weeks I probably wouldn't even know what to do with all time that I got Cheesy. I definitely wouldn't move to alternative forums like Cryptotalk. Forum.bitcoin.com and others. I also wouldn't move to other platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and others because it's not an alternative to forum. I don't know, maybe I would try to find new hobby or just would start watching some tv series, because now I don't have time for it.
If one day government will shutdown Bitcointalk, I'msure that Bitcointalk core would start alternative forum. But if it would be started from scratch, probably I will not be so addicted to that forum as now.

I do not know what will happen to me when this forum disappears. Maybe I will be a little depressed and feel missing some important things in my life.
This forum has made my life more productive and learned about bitcoin until now. Even half the time I have spent I review this forum and do some work.

I am interested in this forum since 2016 and then registered. I am totally blind and do not know the benefits of bitcointalk, so I vacuum up to 1 year and start active again in 2017.
In the same year in 2017 I felt that this forum provided several benefits for me financially and gave many new friends from all corners of the world.
I have participated in all kinds of bounty campaigns, including becoming a translator.

My income is even greater in this forum compared to my real income.
But if the forum this is lost somewhere, I will be a regular employee who spends a lot of time for family and go on vacation on weekends.

Facebook will get back one of his user. Because before joined on this forum, I had spent my free time on the Facebook. -snip-
Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and other social media I never publish about bitcointalk.org, because I close myself from people around me.
If I am open about this forum and my side job there will be many strange questions to come, I avoid that and choose to remain silent as anonymous.
Maybe I'm only active on a telegram account

There's always Cryptotalk... Grin
Cryptotalk may not be able to replace bitcointalk.org, it is still very difficult even though cryptotalk spends a lot of money to do promotions by holding a signature campaign aided by yobit. It takes a long time if I really have to move to cryptotalk, because the bitcointalk forum has become my second home.

This place has also encouraged me to keep buying MOAR & MOAR BTC. I initially wanted 10 in 2014, then I wanted to be in the 21 club. My targets started growing & growing & I kept meeting them.

I live in a pretty poor area where their are very limited opportunities to even make even a decent living, but I am very resourceful and self reliant so I can do decently well on a very limited budget by doing everything for myself.. My real life skillset is all mechanics and construction.. I am not a coder but my knack is for physical things like machines..

I have never really been in a position to buy Bitcoin.. I have only ever bought $100 in BTC, and at a price higher than it is now..
All of the coin I have is what I made myself from basically nothing and have only ever sold some 2 times.. I have thankfully had the self discipline to hodl the majority of coin I have been able to accumulate, which really is not all that much sadly, but more than I have ever sold..

I am far from "made" but I'm holding BTC because I believe that maybe some day I could be "made" on a fair amount less coin than you mention..

I need to find/pursue a way to start accumulating satoshis again.. Even little by little..
The hayday of trading seems to be over for me..

The moral of the story is, if you want your significant other to become a BTC Believer and become OK with your time spent on crypto, buying them something expensive, that they really want, need, and will use every day, with your crypto earnings.. It is like a nuclear weapon against nagging..
I see so just filling my house with loud hot machines was probably not the way to go.  Tongue
Though I think I still get a pass from buying her a PC, through the forum and using BTC when she began teaching ESL online. So double bonus points on the forum and BTC.

Their is usually more than one way to skin a cat  Wink
That's just what worked for me..
