Basically I would say check for what the coin can be used and if this branch has a potential, but practically I say take a look at their marketing budget!

The biggest marketing budget has potentially the largest growth potential.

If you have a good product but not enough money to peomote it, you will likely fail.

If you have a medium quality product but a huge marketing budege, your change to succeed is unlike higher.  Smiley
I agree with this, because it is what is needed in this day and age is the strategy and the way that we all goals that we want achieved. it's useless good stuff but do not know what to do but with a good strategy ordinary stuff can be amazing. Especially if both are good results in accordance with expectations.

In my opinion:

1. The vision and idea of project. (it should present the future vaule in real life(how to use currency etc.))
2. Technology, mainly algorithm but also masternodes, pos, pow. (if you want to have profitable coin)
3. Team(it is very important to know that developers are open minded and willingly announce every change, important information and answer the questions)
4. Community, it is the last step in my list but not less important. Because people create value of coin and its beneficial environment.

*Sometimes when you pick your interesting coin you only need to check the coin's topic on bitcointalk to decide if it's worth.

I am a crypto enthusiastic and i know a 90% of people here on bitcointalk are as well.
There are a lot of altcoins in the market today. What should one look out for before investing in any altcoin
Look for good developers, an involved community and a project that solves some issue, if a project has all of that then you can be sure that coin is going to become a success sooner or later, other important factor if you care about making money, and I suppose we all care, is to look if the coin has already pumped if it had not then there are good chances it will if it has all the previous factors.

Quite a valid question I must say however, everyone has their own opinion and before investing one must do their due diligence. As the saying goes, invest only what you can afford to lose. For me it has always been support and how the coins are placed. I also look at the road map and future plans but then do necessarily make it my 100% decision factor. The reason being I can have all fancy stuff written in the roadmap but then if I am not delivering the results, it makes no sense to me. Look for an active community along with trustworthy dev. Someone who wants to grow with the team/community.

Study the coin market history and read some reviews. If you do these basics, I think you should be fine.

because the price fluctuations in altcoin are faster than bitcoins, the risks offered are huge and proportional to the potential benefits gained, altcoin which we call shitcoin can give us a significant advantage before the coin is lost from circulation, altcoin is a complement in market trading. .

You are saying about which altcoin dude. Normally whenever the bitcoin price bump and dump that time only even altcoins also will increase and decrease. This is I am saying for top list altcoins. Other cheap coins and newly introduced ICO coins cannot be confirm that till it is moved to top. Some we may find the situation to face the scams from them.

Look for those altcoins that already in the market for long period of time and established a good price and volume. You can considered those as long term investment.

If you are planning to invest on those new porject then you need some guts here since it's more risky. Even how well the new project is explained, you can't take the fact that someday they can turned to a shit. In reality, all investors of those new projects are taking a risks.

Always look at the exchange prices of a certain altcoin you want to invest in, what is its use, the team behind the ICO of that coin. If all those I mention goes well that would be a potential good coin. but most of altcoin does not last long its pump but gives more income when it does.

Have to focus on the team, then evaluate the white paper, communication, etc. If you like them still hop on their slack and find out who you can talk to.

why there so many reasons, in my opinion, only one thing will encourage people to invest in altcoins, that is profits, all the other things like team, market cap, conception and so on are all for profits, without profits, all of these worth nothing to the investors
For investors, of course they want profits but there is also risk like scams. To minimize this risk they should consider things like team, market, cap, conception etc. In this way they can comfortably invest their money in a altcoin and now worrying that it would be scammed by the developer or the team that created the altcoin.

Before investing in any altcoins, I rely on a few factors, such as experienced team of developers, a working product before ICO release, low-risk rating and high investment potential. By evaluating these factors, a fair part of altcoins seems to be reliable to invest.

I try to keep an eye out for undervalued coins, so often will avoid good projects if their market cap is too high. I also look for unique concept or at least a project that has improved capabilities or services from it's competitors, an active team and a strong community. As I mentioned earlier, a lower market cap with room for growth is a key feature i keep my eye out for as well.

The reasons why i want to get into altcoin is because i hope to multiple my net worth by hoping to find the next coin that grow faster than bitcoin. As bitcoin is right now quite a high price, it will be less likely to x10 or so. On the other hand, altcoin can be much cheaper and more room to grow. Just like Neo which jump from $8 to $60 within a week or so previously. There still exist a lot of room for growth for these altcoins like total marketcap with double digit in the millions can grow x10 to 100million range which is quite reasonable.

1. Technology. It needs to be something better than what already exists, and useful in real life.
2. Team. A good team of developers, with deep knowledge of technology, and willing to make things happen.
2. Distribution. The wider the distribution, the more decentralized the currency is, and the lower the risk of market manipulation.

I look for the following:

1. Solid team - I look their social media profiles, LinkedIn to see work experience and knowledge.
2. Strong idea - I see if the altcoin really have a sense to exist: if it's solving a real world problem.
3. Good WP - Easy understandable and that covers all the point of the altcoin.
4. Anything done already beside the ICO - Something in GitHub, anything on development or already done.

Like Auctus.org is a good exemple that have all this points really well covered.

Most people here would say, look at the team members and their experience and past achievement as if they really can tell what the acquired experience has got to do with the current project. But what the heck! The OP didn't ask about ICO, he said altcoin which presupposes that the coin has been listed already.

For me I look at two things and these are major consideration for me.
1. The total supply of the altcoin I want to buy into. The fewer the supply, the easier for its price rise.
2. The trading volume and market cap.

There are two factors which are crucial for me to look at before investing in a project. The first is the concept and the idea on which the project is based upon. The second factor is the team. A strong developement team is essential for a successful project.

Any altcoins should have some significant potential in terms of finance. Even if it might be risky, the preliminary investigation about the altcoins you're interested in investing, at least, short-term, should be conducted. The major factor is the low-risk, high-investment monetary potential.

Here to have a better coin depends upon many factors.
Out of them the first factor is the concept : the main factor that is why we should buy that  coin, what is unique, what is the different things that we can see in that coin.
Team of the coin : How much the team is active and how much they have experience to handle the coins marketing and have any experience yet with another project or not.
Technology : what is the technology of the coin that we have with that coin because it is the technology which makes the coin. Powerful by security and stability.
If you can see these types of factor in the coin then i am sure that you can make better investment, here I am doing the same analysis before investment.
