I would look at the experience of the founders, what industry the project focuses on. I know some projects which I think're very promising, first of all, because of the team and very perspective industry.

I am not telling a secret, I think people firstly look at the team members, who they are, their past experience.then they search if they have venture capital parteners or big investors backing the project. Then they look at press release, I mean which famous press are talking about the project (Forbes, huffingtonpost, cointelegraph).

I try to find altcoins that are trying to solve a problem or are significantly improving something that already exists. Then I look at the people/team behind it. How many people are working on it full time? How much experience do they have? Are they active on Github? Are they focused on not only development, but also marketing and creating business partnerships?

Most of the altcoins having been released in the last years are nothing more than blatant copy and paste coins. It's very difficult to get rid of the major part of the rubbish coins where you're left with just a few coins that are worth investing in. Very important aspect I focus on is whether or not a certain crypto currency solves a problem, or offers more convenience in stimulating actual usage. If one of these two requirements are there, then it may turn out to be a decent investment. If not, then it shouldn't be touched.

This, Everyone is trying to 1up the other. I'm seeing a lot of this with pay cards at the moment. I agree, if there is a project developing a solution for a problem that has been ignored and it has a prominent and transparent team, I like it.

At first i look at the price of this altcoin, if it in dump i think it`s a good reason to buy it, ofcouse i don`t tell about scamcoins. It`s better to choose some from coinmarketcap top-25 and find one which price is low at the moment, and ofcourse if you don`t know about this project you should read about it and like the idea of this project.

To be honest, I find it extremely difficult to rely on an emerging altcoin as a valid option to risk my capital, since over the years we have seen many projects that promise to have the potential to reach great heights, but gradually were turned off, and in turn we have seen projects lacking solid foundations, but whose marketing campaigns have sustained them in a good place in the market.

Therefore I prefer to go to safety and invest 90% of my venture capital in bitcoin, and invest the rest in few well-accredited altcoins.

Yeah the most important thing before investing into an altcoin is just look into their team, their developers, the community, etc, there are a lot of things that anyone needs to know before investing into an altcoin/ico, it is so difficult for me to have trust in a new project, but sometimes i like them and i believe in their roadmap over all things.  But it always depends, so in top altcoins you only have to look at the charts.

I am a crypto enthusiastic and i know a 90% of people here on bitcointalk are as well.
There are a lot of altcoins in the market today. What should one look out for before investing in any altcoin
The team, Past experience in the technology and development, How large the community behind it, and the whitepaper + code.  I'm thinking about to invest in those are giving me the best experience with it.
But the first thing to remember never to invest in random coin. Because the research was really important.

The most important for me to invest in a project during ICO is to make huge profit from my investment. During ICO most a time the prices of the coins or project are very cheap as compared to when the coins or projects is been lunched. Equally, there are a lot of discount on your purchase during ICO. Although, the most important factor is to know whether the project is legitimate or not, this is because there are a lot crypto activities that are out to scam investors.

I think usually altcoins have more fluctuations in value then the bitcoin. I see it as a good opportunity. Ofc there are risks too!

real world application is something important for an altcoin
but we dont know how a particular altcoin dev team are
going to market the product and also we dont know what
the interest and useage is going to be.

The current projects are not feasible, I mean they don't have any product. They're missing real products, they're just providing ideas and selling their ideas to the people.
If they have what they need to get their job done then they will make it happen, I look for coins that have more of a fun atmosphere surrounding it.

In addition to the team and advisor, what interested me is the concept i.e. the problem they are trying to solve. I willing to invest more to project that I really like for what they trying to achieve, even if means that there is little short term gains to be had.
I know an altcoin with these quantities

Project and Team mostly, but lets not forget that alt coins can jump 400% percent over a week which big coins like Eth and Bitcoin can't do anymore.
You seem experienced, Why is that?
