Introduction
I have noticed some new members on this forum are unable to earn merits, merits are important as they are used in ranking up from brand new member to legendary, most new members are unable to rank up because they did not posts quality contents, there are certain hidden things  but not hard to know about this forum to helping in ranking up. So, I decided to use this time to tell you some of these.

Before you can be qualified to earn merits on this forum you need to possess certain qualities, bitcointalk is not for everyone but for quality members, quality members are those that contribute to this forum in one way or the other, as a newbie that needs to rank up, you need to contribute, you need to have excellent knowledge about bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies and others sections pertaining to the forum, with this you need to posses these qualities:

Diligence
Even, without hardwork nobody can make it in life, some people are just here for money and got nothing because they do not know the forum is about learning and contributing knowledge, all they know is how to get money forgetting life is one step after the other. This forum are not for lazy people but for hardworking people, today can be tough but tomorrow will be better.

Patience
If I am not patient, I can not get to the full member position because I earned nothing but only posting on the forum, people only thinking about the bitcoin part but not about the contributing parts, you have to be patient because signature campaigns are not for newbies and it takes time before ranking up.

Believing in opportunities the forum can bring
This will be your fuel to make quality posts. I believe opportunities, but opportunities runs towords people that work for it. Work hard, be patient and opportunities will come, this is how someone can be one of the established members of this forum.

Admitting to corrections
Newbies are newbies and should admit to corrections,  I thought I knew all when I joined this forum but later knew I have known nothing, there are people here that read, sleep, wake up and everything they like doing is bitcoin and crypto related and for many years, that is why I always admit what high ranked members say and I later noticed they are always right, especially the legendary members.

Learning about the high ranked members
This is so important, learn what highly ranked members and merit sources do comment about, knowing how they comment and what and what exactly they comment, if you post or comment to posts like them, they will like your post and merit it.

Optimistic
This helps me a lot, I know with patience and hardwork I will get there one day, always thinking of better tomorrow, I have aims and goals of joining this forum and I know it will be done because I aim high and so you can do also.

How to rank up
Newbies do complain about one thing, that there posts are not merited, some will sign up all to ask how they can earn bitcoin or money, instead asking about the purpose, the aims and objectives of the forum rather than how to earn bitcoin and merits or to become a lengedary. Before newbie can earn bitcoin through signature campaign here, he needs merit to rank up gradually, and there are three main reasons your posts can earn merits.

Learning about the forum
The first step to earning merit is to learn about how the forum works, knowing what kind of posts can be merited, also know other things about the forum. Checking about merited posts is a prerequisite to earning merits because checking merited posts gives more information about how authentic and excellent the posts merited are, this really helped me.

Giving authentic information
No spamming, no plagiarism, no falsification of information to prove a point or write up,  no misinterpretation of valid points, reading from a legit and right source are requisites to earning merits, your write up and replies must be constructive, coherent, free from grammatical blunders and typing errors, it should be qualitative and useful.

Excellent in work
Do a thorough research to get valid points, giving no room to execuses. And excellent work will contain only authentic information. With this, some smerit givers will merit your posts. If your post is not merited, you will still be confident to report it in a thread created for unmerited posts.

Conclusion
You will have to work hard because this forum are not for lazy people, many newbies not getting ways to rank up because all they think about is to make bitcoin, but this forum main aim is to learn and contribute to learning which is the requisite to ranking up and earning from signature campaigns, that is why the most frequent saying of highly ranked members to newbies is that this forum is not about making bitcoin or money but about learning and contributing to the forum what you have learnt and experienced about bitcoin and other things pertaining to the forum.

The lazy brain is the devil's treasure. Nothing good comes out of a lazy brain. If you want to move your account to a better position then you have to write a good topic. Write your posts with good quality. If the rank of ID increases, you will be able to earn good income from here. Thank you for writing because newcomers will benefit a lot from reading this article of yours.

This forum is not a primary school to teach writing, make arguments, teach to ask, here it comes to debate and in that debate you learn; that learning gives you the north of the user that as a person you really are.

A forum, before anything else, is being a community, trying to raise a standard of how a user should be, it is contradictory.
It is cliche, but the rules of the forum are what should really define its behavior within the community.

In reality you do not help other users, make useful contributions or participate in the post forum because there is a standard to follow, or the merit awaits you, you do it because you really like it. The one who does it to pretend will surrender and leave, or simply in the achievement of his objectives, his priorities will be differents. But that's why he deserves to be judged or qualified. ( ! - ? )

Being in this forum is really simpler than it seems, just express yourself, be yourself. Whether or not the community appreciates your stay here, believe me it is no different than your offline "social" life, so it shouldn't affect you.

Well, the forum is open to everyone, and there are many that come here to ask a question and do not participate much further than that. That is their prerogative, and not being active is certainly not an equivalent to lazy by any means. People will invest more time here depending on their likes, interests, available time and objectives (if any), and that leads to a wide spectre of forum members, both active and inactive, both contributive and non-contributive, with disregard to the amount of time they spend here.

Now if we centre the spotlight on Rank, then yes, one is going to need to be pretty active here to build-up to one of the higher ranks, but that on its own is certainly not enough, and what matters most is the content you create.

This forum is for active people only, and all lazy and inactive members will not be able to achieve anything from it because until we can obtain a rank within the forum we need to work hard, accurately and carefully in addition to that we must be patient as possible and we must always write useful and valuable posts

Very meaningful writing you wrote. The text is so well-arranged that it is easy for newcomers to understand. I think it's a big deal to write neatly and pay attention to the grammar. No one can easily understand your twisted or messy words. Write in a few words but highlight the main meaning. Your writing will be successful only when your audience understands it very easily.

Excellent in work serious efforts or quality posts
Do a thorough research to get valid points, giving no room to execuses. And excellent work will contain only authentic information. With this, some smerit givers will merit your posts. If your post is not merited, you will still be confident to report it in a thread created for unmerited posts.

I think it is not about the excellent in work, but do serious efforts or make quality posts. Excellent in work means extraordinary efforts, in fact merits not only for extraordinary efforts or exceptional posts. But as long as you can make useful or valuable efforts/posts, then people may give you merits. However, I suggest to not think too much about merits as the focus should be on how to improve quality posts or do more useful efforts to the forum. We also can make helpful things, then people will thank you with merits if they want.   Wink

Don't know how to sign a message.
Don't know how to get experience with Bitcoin testnet that is the thing they should do at starts.
Don't know how to consolidate their bitcoin inputs to save fees when they are in hurry with bitcoin movements.

How many times they visit the Bitcoin Technical Support child board?
This complaints sound as if I'm the one you complaining to, I can't lie, I haven't visited Bitcoin Technical child Board. I can't even sign a damn message, I don't even have an experience with Bitcoin Testnet technically. This is shame on me. I admit my mistake.

I will learn, collect points and get more knowledge. 3 in 1
it is harder than the past.
The forum is good for making money but you will suffer until you get it, it is not an easy way to profit but needs planning, learning and patience.
I knew the forum a while ago but I had work and I tried to go back after the closure because I knew that digital currencies would be valuable in the future.

definitely bitcointalk is not for the lazy ones.
it takes a lot of effort to rank up here.

the main thing comes down to providing value.
giving and giving and giving before asking.

like in most of things in life: patience and hard-work pays off.

Not so sure about all of that. Certainly it looks like some members are just passing merit "randomly".
Perhaps there should be an un-merit option as well. There are many merited posts that just don't deserve any.

Very insightful thread. The points outlined here are true for almost all professions. People expect so much when they're only doing very little to earn it. Majority of new users just want to skip the hard parts and get to the best part. Sadly it doesn't work that way. It's all part of the experience. In life, to succeed in anything, you first have to learn the ropes, see how things work, continue practicing and with time, everything will fall into place.  Even the most ranked members were at some point, newbies. But they are today through commitment to the forum. This is one point new users keep missing.

Charles-Tim, you have given a lot of good advice to new members, thank you for that.
You're right, people can't ask something for nothing, if you want to get something (like merits) you have to offer something in return, equal or greater value (quality post).
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that very few new members have been reading posts like this lately, since most newbies start with questions like:
''How to earn here?''
How to get merits?''

Still, thank you for your effort and help to the younger members.

The beginners who just joined this forum only concerned with how to get bitcoin in this forum without thinking about their quality and contribution. whereas the quality of posts will be highly valued to be able to follow the signature campaign, which is the most paying campaign now compared to other campaigns. which is an obstacle for newbies indeed feel lazy to contribute because they have to gather merit to move up in rank. But there are also newbies who show their quality when they first join, but very rarely.

Nothing in regards to advising the newbies is that new per se on the forum especially when it's a general advice. If you want to recieve acknowledge then you have to put in more work into your contributions on the forum. Don't go posting on a board you have no idea, for the sake of ass licking to gain some merits as you'll just sound stupid most especial as all you'll be writing are just generic spams in the presence of geniuses lol.

Getting the merits to rank up isn't all about creating threads here and there. You can get those by positively contributing to already existing discussion. Just put in works into you post construction and leave the rest for fate. As you continue involving yourself in constructive discussion on the forum, you'll grow into becoming a positive forum users only if you'll be willing to learn along the way.

Don't get yourself intimidated by anyone, you might be better off then most people you admire here, most importantly try to enjoy your stay on the forum. Have fun, don't kill yourself over what you don't know, all of us can't be tech gurus. As far you can comfortably send, safely store and receive bitcoin, you're good to go. The rest are additional knowledge that you should be grateful if you're able to achieve them.

By opportunities you mean signature campaigns, right? Because what else would require a user to have a high rank account to make money. Imo it's a poor approach to using this forum, most sig campaigns don't pay good money, $50-100 per week is the median pay of Bitcoin campaigns, and shitcoin sig bounties are just a waste of time. Maybe newbies dream about one day joining Chipmixer's campaign, but at this point it's easier to become an astronaut than to do so.

People who come to this forum to earn should bring some skills or offer some sort of service or sell some goods, it's much better in the long run because with that you can even earn money outside of crypto, while sig campaigns will be gone one day.

I am quite agree with @Lucius statement. Its seems OP focused on earn merit, rank up & earn money. Although post isn't bad but personally I believe most of newbies have lack of technical knowledge about crypto-currency which is most important for us. If you only focuse on earn merits then likely it would quite hard and you will unable to learn technically. Even me I am not technically expert, but when I read any new technical questions then try to search about them and read reply by experienced users. So later on I could help someone else about same problems. So everyone should try to read more than create post and spend time to research more.

I have to admit that OP have added a important point " Admitting to corrections". Sometimes I have noticed if I point something wrong to newbie posts then they don't like to admit it. Instead of correct themselves they start arguments and try to prove themselves right. I have no problem with that even I don't need to argue, but sadly they won't learn or not trying to learn. I don't see any problems to admit if I have done anything wrong even I Hero Member, because "no one is perfect".

It's so much true, most of them have no interest in working, they just want to make a lot of money in short-cut way. most of them think that people earn money at this forum without any kind of effort. They come to the forum to spend some times and when they realized it's not easy to make money then leave.

I have seen many people who are so much interested about BTC/ETH miner, they think miner is a money-making machine. They don’t want to realize the relation between electricity cost and mining profitability, they just waste both time and money but cannot make any profit by mining.

Lately, we’ve been discussing on my Local Board the reasons that may stand behind the low posting activity that is taking place there (specially in relation to the world population that actually speak Spanish). Part of what we’re circling around there is how cultural factors (be it per country and/or per generation) may have a large saying here. For example, younger generations tend to look towards mobile platforms on which people interact through swift one-liners.

The forum is another thing, and has a culture of making longer posts, with less dynamism in the conversation itself, but with likely a more thought-out content. That seems to be rather different to the style of swifter interaction platforms, and has it’s pros and cons.

Reading through the OP, it does reflect part of the culture here, but objectively, it does not seem to entice the casual poster too much, and may not seem too appealing to the newcomers to sign-up and discuss (many may cheer here). There’s a cultural dogma here that helps to build content, whilst probably deflecting many, precisely due to the cultural savoir-faire it may require, and the cultural distance from their usual social platforms.

Yes, ok, the above servers as a spam barrier (or as a rank barrier rather for those that fall into that sort of habit), but I wonder if there is a way to make it more appealing without messing it all up. Maybe not, but it’s something that bugs me lately somewhat.

Introduction
I have noticed some new members on this forum are unable to earn merits,
They dont need to get it faster if they cant post something that attracts the attention of another merit source or user. Beginners still need a lot of process to gain knowledge until they can apply their knowledge to every post they make later.

This thread might be considered by beginners or low ranking users who want to learn and improve the quality of posts but it really doesnt mean for those who are lazy and too comfortable with their bad habits. In the end you cant force them to change habits if they dont want to change it themselves. But I believe that, there are times when ordinary posters turn into quality posters because he has committed to change them without coercion and that comes out of awareness. Therefore, I think it is not good if we judge them too quickly if we never direct them to the right thing.

But in the end what is the percentage of those who are really interested in BTC in terms of technology and not exclusively earnings?
I did not focus it only on merit, I still centered it on authentic posts which is the aim of this forum, if newbies checked authentic posts on this forum, there is no way he will not improve about bitcoin in terms of technology as well. The more newbies research, learn and post authentic contents on this forum, he will know more about bitcoin even in term technology and the more he will be given merits and the more he will rank up else no merits no ranking up.
