Is Bitcoin Mixer really able to hide any transaction? I want to be completely sure of it before using it
If you use trusted mixing sites like Chipmixer, no one can trace you. You can't hide any transaction from blockchain but you can exchange them so that no one can trace you. For example, if you have BTC on an address and you send it to Chipmixer, you will receive another BTC in another address, so there's no link between your btc and the next one which you are going to use. So, you will be impossible to be traced.

On the other hand they mention the U.S. Army and NSA are are tracking cryptocurrency users by analyzing transactions, which make the government sound more nefarious and sinister

Unless you're a blockchain analysis expert it is hard or even impossible to determine if yours coins are clean or not. Bitcoin is so mixed that there is no absolutely clean coins (maybe those fresh mined).

Why should US Army tracking cryptocurrency? However NSA is working on bitcoin case at least from 2013 as revealed in the documents released by Snowden. Even then they have very powerful tools (Xkeyscore, Oakstar, Monkeyrocket) to track bitcoin users, and after 6 years these tools have become even more powerful.
Apparently, the Pentagon and the Government in general is hesitant to hire and give a security clearance to anyone,  having a bitcoin or any crytocurrency account. In this article they are describing bitcoin users as Terrorists, Cybercriminals, and Spies. And if your not one of these, and just investing in it, you're just delusional, and therefore not desirable to work in government.

https://www.stripes.com/news/us/bitcoin-a-shadowy-realm-as-us-weighs-security-clearances-1.529596

So I am wondering...would a bitcoin mixer make a difference?  Or send up more red flags? You can't tell who is sending whom money, but the money is missing from your account and going somewhere. And this is what the government in monitoring.

It's an interesting article. The government can't figure out what to do with bit coin, and are or were considering to make a foreign currency.

But if you get your bitcoin from the dark web, you need, (or should use) a mixer to disassociate your self from any BTC you purchased. They also recommend you consult a lawyer first. It all sounds very nefarious on the bitcoin user's part.

Best mixing method by theymos- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/guide-decent-mixing-methods-5146241

Blockchain is available to everyone and everyone can see what Alice is doing with her bitcoin. Assume, she has 1 bitcoin, and she sent it to Bob. We can check it in explorer since it is available to everyone. We also can trace what Bob is doing with his bitcoin received from Alice. Basically, there is a way to trace everyone's bitcoin address.
Provided that it is easy to trace bitcoin transaction, what will Alice do if she wants to send bitcoin to Bob's address without letting someone knows? Bitcoin Mixer comes up with a solution to execute an untraceable transaction.

Simple process of sending bitcoin by Alice to Bob

Provided that Alice wanted to send bitcoin to Bob without a tail,

1. Alice will find out a Bitcoin Mixer.

2. Send her bitcoin to Bitcoin Mixer.

3. Bitcoin Mixer will send bitcoin to Bob.

If Alice sends bitcoin to an address of Bitcoin Mixer, Bitcoin Mixer will not send bitcoin to Bob from that address. No one will know whom Alice sent bitcoin and from whom Bob received the bitcoin.

For better understanding the system- https://cryptalker.com/bitcoin-mixer/

Some Mixing Services-
1. BitBlender shutdown
2. ChipMixer
3. Cryptomixer
4. Bitcoin Laundry
5. BestMixer seized
Before sending bitcoin to any mixing service, be sure the process, don't forget to check reviews from the internet as well as don't forget to use TOR.

LaGaulios thread, listing some Bitcoin Mixer- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/2023-list-bitcoin-mixers-bitcoin-tumblers-websites-2827109
I did not know about Bitcoin Mixers, and also I was wondering what the ChipMixers were, that I saw on so many profiles. And also just recently heard about Tor and am reading up on that.

I read the article also,
https://cryptalker.com/bitcoin-mixer/

It's interesting that they say, on one hand, that you really you didn't need a Bitcoin mixer "if your funds are clean."

But if you get your bitcoin from the dark web, you need, (or should use) a mixer to disassociate your self from any BTC you purchased. They also recommend you consult a lawyer first. It all sounds very nefarious on the bitcoin user's part.

On the other hand they mention the U.S. Army and NSA are are tracking cryptocurrency users by analyzing transactions, which make the government sound more nefarious and sinister. So I understand why people are compelled to a mixer for basic privacy.

Thanks for the thread.

Edit: I've merited the OP for staring this thread. I must admit that I was put off at first by those bounty joining posts, but I have hopes that the OP will not default to just bounty hunting.
Thank you for the motivation for writing some more new topics. I joined some airdrop but it now is looking like wasting my precious time. I will try to contribute to the forum rather than hanging with bounty only.
Well, this thread is sort informative. I never did learn it before and was thinking what was really chipmixer all about since there are quite few legendary users wearing chipmixer signature. Usually those who wear chipmixer signature does have reputable profile as a user so it will easily gets attention to all users especially newbie's that are wishing someday that could wear signature.

Were you interested more in knowing about what is a Bitcoin mixer all about or just wanted to show your desire to join the campaign and wearing the Chipmixer signature? Anyways, there had been lately 2 Bitcoin mixers which shut down their services due to some legislation issues, but this thread - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/breaking-mixing-services-5117328 , my God this showed me that the reputation we need to hold to be one of the Chipmixer members is actually worth it because Chipmixer was (and is) the only Bitcoin mixer which didn't get traced by that guy and I don't see Chipmixer leaving this business anytime soon as their services are very unique compared to most of Bitcoin mixers still in market.

For anonymous, professional and reliable mixing, ChipMixer is the only option right now.

I don't think it's the only option left, there are pretty lots of mixers in the space that we can use, but I like this mixer since it's more reputable compared to other mixers.

With mixer, you can remove the traceability from your known bitcoin address.
Bestmixer is seized by the authority and I have updated it in the OP, you probably have missed that. Other one, bitblender has stopped its operation.

Here is a more comprehensive list for you.

Mixers don't necessarily remove the traceability of your bitcoins. They can certainly make them harder to trace, but adversaries are always trying to break them. Not all mixers are created equally, either. Some mixers employ much better techniques to evade blockchain analysis than others, so it's worth doing some research to find the right mixer.

Is there any decentralized  mixer?  It is not always easy to hide identity when doing btc transactions  and direct p2p mixers would facilitate that.
I think the closest you can get currently for BTC would be through Wasabi, as described here: [Guide] Decent mixing methods. It is a wallet, but it allows you to cloak your transactions amongst 50 other TX emitting candidates.

Wasabi BTC addresses though is based on Bench32, and those still have adaption lags as can be seen here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bech32_adoption.

Thanks for the tip on Wasabi; It took me a couple of days to  figure out how it works. The only drawback I see yet is that one  need to wait for 50 men to make their decision on coins shuffling. Regardless, it's only a matter of time waiting.

Sometimes i dont understand how the anonymity of the coin left, all trade can be traced but with this,
Not true technically. Generally all of our transaction is link with each to other. If I send you BTC and you send them to others, this ca be traced. In case of mixer, assume your address is X, mixer address is Y, another address of mixer is Z. There will be no connection with Y and Z, you send BTC to Y, mixer will give you the address Z with your BTC.
No link with your transaction. But to avoid some more issue, this mixing process isn't enough.

Sometimes i dont understand how the anonymity of the coin left, all trade can be traced but with this, if we are sure this is safe and not expensive we could adopt it more. Sometimes we dont demand or need this anonymity but I wonder what happen to this feature.

It is actually about how you want to carry out a transaction.

Basically, as an example, if you're Alice and you've got an address named X and you're sending money to Bob and you choose to send him the coins directly, you'll use the address once and for whatsoever reasons, there's a website named https://walletexplorer.com which will be able to trace all your future transactions from addresses linked to that wallet if you keep using it. Nonetheless, even if you send coins to Bob from an address whose private key is held by you and you may have used it before already and/or have signed messages from that address, it's definitely easy to trace you. While if you choose to go for mixers (who charge from almost little to nothing), even if you continue to use the same address to send money to Bob, your wallet X will be sending coins to a different address every time you use a mixing service and nobody can actually trace ya people without knowing both of you personally and having links to your addresses. I sometimes use gambling websites to ^mix up^ my coins as they allow me to send my coins to their addresses (a unique one every single time) and I can withdraw at any address I want without the fear of getting traced but costs (as transaction fees) are very high compared to mixers. So it's better to use a mixer as it has all the properties of Dark coins' services to serve their users with enhanced privacy levels. Chipmixer doesn't really deserve to be 2nd in OP's list but it is actually the number one mixer and I've personally used it without any fear of losing my money.

Bitcoin Blender is shutting down. Please withdraw.

Good that its just number 1 mentioned in this list, and not number 1 of all mixers  Wink

Not sure of what will happen on the currently actively mixers.

I don't hear news about bitblender having the same problem with bestmixer, but they just shut down their business.

They probably are scared now.
Happens if you can't properly organize the infrastructure.

For anonymous, professional and reliable mixing, ChipMixer is the only option right now.

Not directly a p2p mixer, but coinjoin probably is what you are looking for.
This is a method to combine multiple transactions (from multiple senders) into one large transaction to obfuscate the the recipient.

Wasabi (https://github.com/zkSNACKs/WalletWasabi), a desktop wallet for windows, linux and mac, has this feature included.
Currently the minimum amount to queue for coinjoin is 0.1 BTC.

In this process, there is no centralized entity which is required to be trusted.

This is not necessary because I have added a link of the list by Lagaulios, you can check there and will find BitCloak as well. By the way, the purpose of this thread is to share the basic idea of coin mixer, not the list of clin mixer.

There is a good guide on mixing, that presents there are available cheaper methods to increase anonymity, but the fact is there is no perfect method that can bring total anonymity at all. Even with the biggest mixer services. [Guide] Decent mixing methods
I have added this tutorial at the beginning of this article. Theymos has shared the way in that article, I guess it's more than enough. Repeating the same process might help to get a total untraceable coin.

There are dozens of privacy coins as XMR which can be used to conceal the transaction so I wonder why most people waste more fees on mixer to make their tranasction private. Converting your bitcoin to XMR before sending out is the same process as using a mixer.
I think people have their reason why they waste more fees to have a private transaction. My opinion about their reason is that they don't know that there is a service that can conceal a transaction that time or they are just being lazy to search a service that conceal a transaction or use XMR for example.

Alternatively, just use a privacy coin and skip all the work and fees associated with using bitcoin mixers.  XMR is one of the best options considering the high trading volume and fairly stable price.

It would not really be possible to make using a mixer illegal.

Delivering android updates can be made illegal (at least in the US)... I don't think there is anything (in the US) which can't be made illegal  Cheesy
Do you have a source for this?

Yes, suicide is illegal in parts of the US, this is largely so insurance companies do not have to payout for suicides. I am not aware of any jurisdiction that imposes the death penalty for attempted suicide. Most jurisdictions will put you in a physic ward if you try to kill yourself.

In addition to the reasons I listed above, in the US, making using a mixer illegal would have freedom of association issues.

Xmr is also becoming illegal in some countries. Mixers aren't illegal yet, as far as I know.
It would not really be possible to make using a mixer illegal.

If you send coins to a third party, you cannot control what they do with the coins. It is also difficult to know if you sending coins to a different wallet of yours is sending the coins to yourself or to a third party. If you receive coins from someone, you cannot control if they previously received the coins from a mixer. If you move coins from one wallet of yours to another, it is difficult to know if you are receiving the coins from a third party or are moving your own coins.

, we have mixers to protect our privacy.
One of the most popular sites for mixing is ChipMixer,
This is very true,i think chipmixer has to be one of the most popular as its signature is everywhere all around the forum, and it must be providing quality services for it's users.
Mixers all aid in keeping us out of prying eyes, and meanwhile,i haven't used one as of now,i plan to soon, and I definitely will go with chipmixer,as it's been advertised by trustworthy members of the forum

I am glad to see that our contribution to the Chipmixer signature campaign are helping to build a Brand. Yes, you should definitely check it out, because it is very easy to use and it is also very cheap. I have done 1000s of transactions via this service, without one single hiccup.  Wink

I see a lot of other mixer services listed in this thread, but I do not know if any of them can be trusted. The Big Brother 3 letter agencies might be behind some of these services.  Huh

I think a safe bet would be to mix coins via several different mixer services, in the hope that you might hit the service that are not operated by a 3 letter agency.  Roll Eyes   Wink

Why not listed the wasabi wallet as another bitcoin mixer this wallet has a built-in mixer which is recommended by our admin Theymos.

This is what others looking for and become anonymous. Wasabi wallet looks the same as grin or beam coin where you can send coins without traces.

Suggestion: Convert the list's texts into direct links.

Beginners might use this thread as a reference/list of Mixers and we know that they are the most susceptible to scams.
Speaking of scams, there are tons of fake sites with altered letters, name or domain extension, specially mixers;
so, it's best to link the official site(s) of those mixing services to prevent them from using Google search which is the number one reason of "website misdirection".

That’s a nice thread you’ve got running there on Mixers, and keeping it up to date as you do makes it worth a read.

Technically, the solutions differ to achieve their goal. ChipMixer I have obviously looked into out of responsibility, and their solution seems very well thought through, making their "Time Travel" feature interesting (withdrawals are not visible on the blockchain since you get private keys in return, which in fact are dated prior to your deposits).
I guess that you need to move the returned private keys related BTC to another personal wallet to complete the anonymity circle, since the private keys are also known to the mixer service.

As well, what makes Chipmixer standing ahead is its PWYW (Pay What You Want)* fee model where they give the buyer an opportunity to decide what they wish to pay for the service they're getting, isn't that cool?

* - Go to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_what_you_want for more.
Mixers like these help to send out coins in a tossed way that no transactions may be caught and anonymity is maintained at par.
Can it still be tracked or the sender and the receiver still anonymous and can't be tracked? I've seen a mixer and access one on my browser and didn't know how it works, so i'm all new when bitcoin mixer is discussed.
No, unless the service you're using is working like a shit. Otherwise, it's not a mixer at all. ChipMixer works differently compared to others and its the mixer with a bigger presence online. I created a list and update it when needed here ( List Bitcoin Mixers)

Alternatively, just use a privacy coin and skip all the work and fees associated with using bitcoin mixers.  XMR is one of the best options considering the high trading volume and fairly stable price.
Xmr is also becoming illegal in some countries. Mixers aren't illegal yet, as far as I know.
That is also the point I will try to make, countries like Japan and Korea have ordered exchanges to remove anonymity centered coins like Zcash and Monero as they don't want this cryptocurrencies to circulate around in their country. Bitcoin mixing is the best alternative to remain anonymous with your transactions, I consider this a loophole in the system and IMO I think that this can still pass on future regulation and international services like this cannot be controlled by one country alone.

I haven't use any mixer at all and I may try to use one to keep me anonymous. Thanks for sharing this tip lucius and I'll do what you said about using minimum amount and reading the FAQ, as far as I observe it is really needed to know first before using it in my own opinion.

I can say that mixers are maybe last defense of anonymity when we using BTC. There are many companies involved in analysis of bitcoin blockchain, or user transactions with the aim of identifying the origin of coins and users. Since most of users do not like someone to track them, we have mixers to protect our privacy.

One of the most popular sites for mixing is ChipMixer, they have been present on the forum for a long time and their signature campaign is one of the most famous and most popular among users. Some people have problems with mixers ( lost funds, process misunderstanding), so it is important to read FAQ and for first time use the minimum amount of coins for mixing.

I can vouch for Bitblender being legit. I've used Bitblender several times since around 2016 when I first discovered them through the signature campaign they had in the services section, and they do the job of mixing well without having exorbitant fees.

Make sure you're going to Bitblender's onion site (link: http://bitblendervrfkzr.onion/) and not any clearnet version of their site for mixing. It's true Bitblender has a clearnet site, but that's just for information and there were scam clones of Bitblender on the clearnet a few months back IIRC.

Blockchain is available to everyone and everyone can see what Alice is doing with her bitcoin. Assume, she has 1 bitcoin and she sent it to Bob. We can check it in explorer since it is available to everyone. We also can trace what Bob is doing with his bitcoin received from Alice. Basically, there is a way to trace everyone's bitcoin address.
Provided that it is easy to trace bitcoin transaction, what will Alice do if she wants to send bitcoin to Bob's address without letting someone know? Bitcoin Mixer comes up with solution to execute untraceable transaction.

Simple process of sending bitcoin by Alice to Bob

Provided that Alice wanted to send bitcoin to Bob without a tail.
1. Alice will find out a Bitcoin Mixer.
2. Send her bitcoin to Bitcoin Mixer.
3. Bitcoin Mixer will send bitcoin to Bob.
If Alice send bitcoin to an address of Bitcoin Mixer, Bitcoin Mixer will not send bitcoin to Bob from that address. No one will know whom Alice sent bitcoin and from whom Bob receive the bitcoin.

The transaction will look like

Some Mixing Services-
1. BitBlender
2. ChipMixer
3. Cryptomixer
4. Bitcoin Laundry
5. BestMixer
Before sending bitcoin to any mixing service, be sure the process, don't forget to check reviews from internet as well as don't forget to use TOR.

Am helping quote this whole post so that we would be able to see all the illustrations.

Alternatively, just use a privacy coin and skip all the work and fees associated with using bitcoin mixers.  XMR is one of the best options considering the high trading volume and fairly stable price.
It really depends on the situation, Someone could just be in specific need of sending Bitcoins somewhere and not an altcoin.
For example, I would be in need of sending some bitcoins to my localbitcoins account, this renders using XMR or any other altcoin invalid.

That's a turn around, and not necessarily enough

Sometimes you want to buy bitcoin. More adoption, there are more ATMs and more exchanges that accept it. And you want to clear your balance from your name, so a bitcoin mixer will do the job.

Xmr is also becoming illegal in some countries. Mixers aren't illegal yet, as far as I know.

Might as well add some services that people can try to mix their Bitcoin. One of them is Bitblender (the link is on my sig). They're online since 2014. The service fee is between 1 to 3 percent, and you need to use Tor if you want to use the service.

Edit: just checked the article and it mentions Bitblender and the other mixing service too. Nice, but adding to OP is still better imo.
