Hello folks!

I'm thinking about starting to trade with Bitcoin, but I see people saying that It's risky & almost like gambling.

I think that I mis-understand the meaning of trading.

For me trading Is for EXAMPLE, buying Bitcoin when It's at 550$ and selling It when It's at 670$. This Isn't risky because If Its value doesn't Increase, you'll just have to keep It until It gets higher enough, Is this trading?

I would really appreciate If people clarified more! Thankx Wink

You are right but sometimes it happen that the price of bitcoin do not increase after you buy, but it decrease, so in that case you lose your money, but for good traders it is not a problem as you may have noticed that the price of bitcoin ( or any other coin) fluctuates while rising or dropping, so the traders try to get the benefit from that fluctuations and get a good profit.

Yeah, you are right, if some one is expert in trading then he do no face any risk, as he can earn profit from trading even if the price of the asset is dropping. You just need to get knowledge about trading and go to trade, you will not lose .

Bitcoin is not risky than you think or if you compare that in gambling trading is more safe than gambling..
Trading is risky if you dont have a proper knowledge and how you manage your trading strategy.. it needs knowledge so if you trading there without knowledge its risky..
Yeah right its more risky in gambling its more safe in trading because it easy to make a profit there also if the price of altcoin is low you can be still wait for a long time and sell it for a right time to make a profit but if you have no patience and sell it later without profit you lose.

I think, one should learn to differentiate between trading and investment. Investments are for long term and it has nothing to do with 20% price fall or 10% price increase in the short term.

As said, investments are based on long term so it gets benefit of sustainable growth whereas trading is something which takes benefits of current fluctuations (as you said buying low and selling high). Due to some incidents (like recent exchange hack) traders get good levels to buy and as we have experienced it before, we know that such price fall won’t last long but no one can predict the period of such effects so investors get good returns as they have nothing to do with short term whereas traders are expecting short term benefits, it’s risky for them to get returns.

Guys that's exactely the answers I was hoping for.

So, the conclusion Is that the patience Is the key!

patience is not "THE" key, it is one of the keys to success in trading. you need a lot more than that to earn a profit in trading. you have to have the experience and enough knowledge to be able to find a coin to invest in or even find a good price to buy bitcoin and then in the next step you need patience to reach profitability.

Yeah exactly Cheesy

Trading is best way for make money on cryptos coins, but it is high risk because fluctuating of price it self. And it needs method before do it. If you wanna trade cryptos coins, i suggest to you for trade alt coins for first time with capital who can lost them.

yes it is true, are all at risk and just like gambling. but the risk on trade bitcoin safer. but if a case when you buy and the price drops, you are only able to be patient for the price back up. whereas in gambling you may lose all in an instant.

but if you trading altcoin with fluctuations in the price, it was quite risky, but the gains could be more than trading bitcoin.

Yah that's trading buying low and selling high but you forgot the price is decrease sometimes, thats why it's risky if youll buy bitcoin at high price and then the price continue to decrease after you buy it you are in lost profit if you don't want to sell it immediately you will wait for it to back again to increase if you don't want to loseand we didn't know how long we will wait for it.. That's why it's risky sometimes.

You are correct that if you buy at $550 and sell at $670, you have made money, so it doesn't seem risky. However, you may buy at $550 and it may drop to $450,so you lose money. Or you buy at $550 and there is some problem with the blockchain and the price drops to $10. You also risk the exchange taking all of your money like MtGox and cryptsy did for many of us.

It is risky because if you take long position on bitcoin in a bear market, you will get rekt. This wouldn't be much of a problem if bitcoin were a currency like Euro but it isn't. Because there are so little merchants who take bitcoins as payment and don't care its USD value. If btc falls to 400$ after you get in when the price was 600$, that pretty much means that you are fckd.

If you want to buy low and sell high as you mentioned , you might wait a lot of time , look at Bitcoin price now , it is nearly stable , how will you make profit ? if you bought now , that mean you are freezing your money , and what about fees ?
I think trading is not that easy , and most of traders turns to trade altcoins when Bitcoin price is stable , you must read news and learn from other traders who have good experience . This site may help you :

Could experience a huge drop at any point and lose a ton of cash, but I guess you could also make a good amount!

EH, It's worth a shot.

for someone who is new to trading and asking a question like OP i suggest them to stay away from coins like ETH because of the huge amount of manipulation these coins have the new traders will only get dumped on.

Trading is risky if you don't know what are you doing. Definition is simple, buy when price is low, sell when price is up. But what if price start to go down after buying? What if you can't sell after buying? What if hackers hack exchange site?
When there is too many "what if" situation is risky. Many things can go wrong in trading, that is for experienced people with knowledge about economy. It's not easy to predict movement of the market, the ones who knows make profit, others just lose.

All trading is High risk
your trading forex is over high risk is compare bitcoin
you are selling in the market, go to any store, is also equally at risk to suffer losses
because all about trading price is up or down so all trading can get profit or lost

yes, you are right! trading bitcoin isn't risky, only need to be patient to hold and know the right time to sell it (so keep follow the new update about bitcoin price on the market)
but if you trading other alt-coins, it will be more risky because another coin is not too popular to stay strong on market, sometime we think it will be great to hold it for long time but in the fact it got pump just a while and then everyone left it (so we got useless alt-coin to hold because low opportunity to get pump again in the future)
