Users who ask OP's question and this happens on a regular basis could be summarized as follows (one or more of the points apply):

  • lazy to search the forum as answers are there numerous times
  • too dumb to search efficiently or even consider it at all
  • prefer to be spoon fed than find answers and solutions on their own

Am I too harsh? Maybe, maybe not.
To sound minds it is not harsh, but to weak minds you are too harsh.
  • Lazy us find it simple and easy to post shits than to waste time searching for it.
  • To dumb to learn how to search
  • They were told that people are being spoon fed here. So, instead of searching the internet, they will come here to ask "what is cryptocurrency?"

Greeting everyone. I was newly introduced into the system by a friend who made me to have so much interest in the system with the zeal and the passion to learn and gain adequate experience on the system but one of the major problem I'm having now is that I'm not well clarify of what merit entails and as such I will be very grateful if any good minded person can kindly throw more light on that to enable me understand in details and also benefit from the system.
something I want to advise all the beginners that come across this community so that whenever they are registered in this community there will not be much interested in earning merit, I know quite well but I'm merit is very necessary and is very important for any user that to find itself to this community but what that will fetch you a merit is when you have a positive respond to the community and when you are creative for the community so a quality post will it determine if you are going to grow positively in the community or not so if he believe in writing trash I don't think that your growth will be rapid one

...

I don't care if a newbie or other low rank wants to rank up fast. If it's their goal, so be it. Unless that someone posts and asks how to do it. Then I know, this account lacks probably almost all abilities to actually achieve such a goal.

Take e.g. the surprisingly good and condensed summary of ChatGPT linked in one of the early replies in this thread:

If you digest the suggested advise there properly, you'd have a good chance to succeed.

Looking at OP's posting history reveals a flawed strategy, if there's a strategy at all. OP either opens a new thread but doesn't interact in his threads further despite opening one or posts a single reply in other threads, so far. That is minimal interaction and I'd say, do not open threads just for the sake of it and if you don't intend to take care of your own threads, i.e. participating in a discussion based on given replies.

When you gain your experience you could answer most of the questions here as well helping other members, and that is where the merit could start dropping for sure, -snip-

Follow Asuspawer09's advice: nobody likes newbies who is evident that want to get merits fast in order to rank up as soon as possible, so if that's your goal it will take you much longer to get there. Enjoy your journey here instead, learn about Bitcoin (and other crypto if that's your interest, you can get a lot of info about many altcoins too here) and when you have a decent reputation you will start earning them with little effort.

Visit the merit thread that is where you can find the perfect explanation of what merit is all about. Basically its the point the you would need in order to rank up here in the forum.

When you already understand what is merit what I would recommend that don't make it your goal, what you could do is start your investing journey into the cryptocurrency space, I mean there was no way you could completely understand everything unless you going to experience it, so the only way is to actually invest by yourself, with the exception of if you already know what you are doing, you don't really want to just invest without having the knowledge when it comes to Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, blockchains, networks etc. that is just the basics of it. This is where the forum is going to be useful, because it is a forum you could ask anywhere around where as long as it is related to Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, etc. If there is something that you don't know and you can't find the right information online that is where the forum gonna go in, ask anything here as long as it is only the right thread a lot of experienced members is going to answer all of your questions.

When you gain your experience you could answer most of the questions here as well helping other members, and that is where the merit could start dropping for sure, I mean sharing your ideas, news, and topics is already a good thing, but just don't stress yourself on getting merit, you're going to get merit as long as you are active and making a good quality post here.

Merit in bitcointalk forum is a rank that signifies your positive contributions, offering others help where they need guidance, and above all merit shows Quality. The more a user have a merit the more it show the Quality the person posses. So let just say merit is a reward to your useful contribution to the forum. It also shows your level of growth in the forum, like if you are really contributing to the forum are or not. I will even say Merit defines a user, you can say something about a user from the merit they earn. Like if they are really contributing to the forum or not, and if the user is intellectually good about cryptocurrency.

When you earn merit it shows your worth in the forum, it shows you possess some kind of quality, it shows you have skills to help the forum with  and with that other users in the forum tends to pay’s a lot more attention to anything you say, because it is believed that you are making research, learning and working hard.

Merit has it benefits too, when you earn some certain amount of merit, you tend to  qualified for some signature campaign in the forum which can earn you some money too. So it All depends on your hard work, consistent research so you can contribute meaningfully to the forum.

If you search, you can find many topics about Merit with a Merit & new rank requirement thread that was given in above posts.

Newbies - Read before posting is another thread for newbies to start.

Two topics about forum ranks and merit. The last topic is from ChatGPT answers and you can nearly get everything you need with ChatGPT about merit, how to earn it.

FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit
I asked ChatGPT on how to earn merit on Bitcointalk

There are two places, namely when outside to use your free time using a smartphone but only to control and see market developments. and when I'm at home I usually use a laptop because I can work more optimally while sleeping and can also open several tabs or browsers. Another thing is to distribute working time because this is also a strategy to make more optimal and systematic use of the forum. Even so, still follow the suggestions and input from others, who knows if there is a better way. Another experience is that if we give to others, other people will continue to return the favor to us. What is strictly prohibited is that taking these news posts is categorized as falsification of writing

Merit is the means to increase your rank. You can increase your rank according to your post and merit. Eg:- If you want to achieve "Member" rank then you need 10 merit and 60 activities. If you want to achieve "full member" rank then you need 100 merit and 120 post. This way you can increase your rank through merit and post. I am giving you a picture taken from this Bitcoin forum, where you can better understand how much merit and how many posts you can get which rank.

Merit is what simply makes you to grow in rank depending on the amount given to you by a forum member. Merit is usually given to a person through a quality post made by the person  in any where in the forum. It helps to identify your rank and your positive contribution on the forum. But I think you should study more by reading, you will get to know more better. Everyone else here was once a newbie so don feel left out you will understand how the system fully works when you may have spent 2 to 3 months and above here.

Merits are like "reactions" to your post in which people may give to your given comment. These so-called reactions have an impact on your forum rank as the more reactions that you receive, the more likelihood that your forum rank would be upgraded. The only difference is that, there is a limited amount of reactions where a person may give, unlike in Facebook where you could like/react on every post that you get.

In this forum, these reactions are called merits in which people would give your thread/comment if they find it useful or helpful in some way. The more you have merits, you would be eligible to rank-up, like what theymos said in this THREAD:

Now, what does it mean if you have a higher rank in this forum? Well, there are signature campaigns that you may participate depending on your forum ranking and these campaigns pay you weekly in BTC. The higher your rank is, the higher the pay that you would receive at the end of every week.

Be reminded, however, that merits should not be your MAIN goal in this forum. Use it as an inspiration in creating several posts/replies and the by-product of your efforts would be receiving merits in the process.

A piece of advise I strongly suggest you will be needing to keep you going progressively on the forum, which is, don't go chasing for merits as that will be the wrong way to go. Rather, go for knowledge, learn and add to the little I believe you already know and heard about cryptocurrency  as a newbie. Your growth in the forum is in how much of a beneficial knowledge you can give/contribute to the community. That's the secret of how merit are attracted which in extension is the purpose of the meriting system.

Does questions around merit really mean chasing merit?

Your own qualifications are not just a measure of talent because it depends on what you use your talent for. Even the follow-up of questions around merit may indicate a desire to better understand its concepts. Eligibility criteria can be expressed through different gradings. I think that opportunities to develop your skills are created over time and environment.

A look at that query, reveals the quest to understand the nitty-gritty of the environ you find yourself.

However, I believe merits is an invaluable and indelible part of this community as it is with its psychological vibes. With different membership grades, the psychological drive behind it is obvious as well seeing some one with high post/activity and merit is just like every day life.

Can I say that merit speaks of the quality of knowledge acquired and released here...

Many people gave you some topics to start and learn about merit system, merit and forum ranks. Even beyond the basic information and in the page 2, people keep repeating answers of previous posters.

I believe you already got answers you want so please lock your topic. To do it, it i simple. Click on lock topic at the bottom.

Ye I concur to your opinion let him Lock the thread though is not passuation but conceptional  for me is good you lock the thread because repeating the same answer for me is not good one because mostly many write up here is repeating one thing with different sentence. Every work need reward and merit is not exampted it shows your progressing so take all the answers available and closed it to avoid spamming.

To be honest, during my first month on this community, I didn't even know how the merit works, I didn't feel much concern about it until I started to receive the merit too. It surprises me how a newbie that has just been on the forum for 6 days is already asking about the merit system, there are other important rules about the community which you need to know about, if you go against those rules, you will face the consequences. Get to know the forum rules, stay active on the forum and you will even know how the merit works.
Maybe he is new to this forum and even he doesn't know how Merit works? For which maybe he wanted to know about Merit. I think its not wrong to ask because as a newbie many members ask such questions we should answer them properly. In fact, one of the reasons why people are so concerned about merit is that it shows their worth. Maybe all members of this forum have the right to ask all kinds of forum related questions, I think asking about merit is also within the rules of this forum.

Apprentices need to know from the very beginning how merit works and how to earn merit or how much merit earns a rank or how much activity earns a rank membership. Whenever a member's post is constructively informative, if someone likes that post, they can give it a merit gift.
Good people, I must confess that some questions asked by one will make other beginners like me not to ask again haven been informed by the amiable responds given to those questions. Not to forget, info flows through different channels, hear say, and many other sources... Thanks for time used in keeping others informed about the whole thing.

If you are interested in the system with so much zeal and passion to learn and gain knowledge about it, I believe you don't need to be looking for Merits right after joining the forum, you don't even need to know about it if you are here to learn and grow.
I know it has become cliché for us to tell newbies not to worry about merits, but i think if a user who is truly a newbie joins the forum, it is normal for them to ask what merits really mean, though they can use the search button to find out for themselves.

The purpose of merits is to encourage quality posts and to stop shitposters from ranking up, thus i don't think it is bad for newbies to inquire about merits, it can act as something that motivates them to make quality posts and contribute constructively. Yes, it could also negatively affect those who chase after it excessively, but for many it could become a positive motivation and work in their favor.

Op, why are you so interested to know what merit is all about like your whole life depends on it, why can't you ask your friend who introduced you to the forum to educate you on the necessary things to know or do before you think of knowing about things that comes after you have gotten the knowledge because you don't seem to know things about the forum or Bitcoin. Do you want to benefit in knowledge or you were told that you could become rich overnight after joining the forum because from your post you seem to have been told about the importance of gaining merits that is why you are too inquisitive to know how you can get it instead of developing and increasing your knowledge which is the most important thing to do.

I don't understand why your friend didn't explain the basics to you after referring you to the forum if he wanted you to join the forum to learn about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies then he did the right thing by not mentioning about merits and making you chase them, but even then, he should have at least let you know how the forum works in the first place so that you don't need to come here and start asking questions about very basic things.

Anyway, below is the post where you can read all about merit, what it is, its purpose and importance, and every other detail that you need to know about it:

If you are interested in the system with so much zeal and passion to learn and gain knowledge about it, I believe you don't need to be looking for Merits right after joining the forum, you don't even need to know about it if you are here to learn and grow. However, for knowledge's sake, let me enlighten you about it.

Merit is a point that you get from other forum users as an appreciation or a reward for your posts that they like or find constructive. It is subjective as to why one gives it to you, one might agree with a point you have mentioned, or find a post of yours humorous, it can be for any reason known to the person giving it to you, but in general, merit is a symbol of appreciation and an indicator that you are a good poster of this forum and that you deserve ranking up, which is why you can only have a higher rank over time if you manage to gain a substantial amount of merits, and if you fail to do so, you won't be able to gain higher ranks no matter how many posts you make and how active you are in the forum.

I hope I made it clear enough for you making it as simple as possible.  Smiley
