If the topic, post or thread you create contains elements of the requirements for a quality, constructive and informative post, then you really deserve to be called a quality member. Merit Source and other generous members appreciate your posts with merit. But if on the contrary, the majority of posts he makes are very close to spam, zero value topics or worse still off topic, then you will be considered a shitposter or spammer.

Merit will be given based on the quality of the post you make, each member has their own criteria for assessing whether a post deserves merit or not depending on their individual point of view. Always try to make quality posts that are useful for other members. If generous members judge your posts to meet quality criteria, they will reward your posts with merit. Never expect merit for every post you produce because it can have a negative effect when no one appreciates your post with merit.

I will also want to ask if there are future plans to change the merit system. I understand that the actual merits are not sendable to others and only the sMerits can be sent. I'm curious to know if for instance, I can also gift out of my actual merit to a user.
The merit system is working well the way it is designed, it might not be perfect, but there is nothing that needs to be changed about it (right now). You cannot send out your "merits" to other users and the admin is not going to waste their time implementing such a thing, because rarely will anybody use it, you can only send Smerits to others.
I also wanted to ask if there are threads where we can decide to submit our posts for a review for merits gifting, when we create quality posts that are worthy of meriting.
Yes:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/self-moderated-report-unmerited-good-posts-to-merit-source-5093271
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-share-your-best-poststhreads-with-fillippone-to-be-merit-assessed-5412657
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/restarted-post-history-review-offer-5426440
Lastly, how can I know which of the posts to submit that are worthy of receiving merits, what are the indices of measuring a quality post in the forum?
There is nothing set in stone about that, quality posts could even be subjective sometimes. That being said, if you grow your knowledge and you are genuinely contributing to discussions, helping other users out and not spamming, then you stand a chance to earn merits in the forum.

OP, whatever you do on the forum within the space of time you will be here, make sure to adhere to forum rules and regulations. The forum wedges a heavy stick on plagiarism. It's so you take note and learn how to always reference and give credit to authors whose materials you use in your posts/threads.

Let's me drop some common tips that would help increase the quality of yah post.

*Always take your time when replying or creating a thread , you have all the time so don't need to be in hurry.
It's common with most newbies. They find it difficult putting more time in creating threads. We often get to find loosely written threads/posts without in-depth contributions and I guess it's because those are written in a haste. I hope they get to read this post and slow down on the rush. I've yet to see anyone here who got an award as the fastest user for opening thread(s).

Quote
* Always read through all the reply in a post to gain More understanding (due to learning from different sources) and also to avoid repeating what someone has said already, before posting
This is where reading and comprehension are valued more than posting without substance.

Op, in as much as you have been given link to read how the merit system works, be rest assured that getting merit isn't a mandatory thing here if you only want to learn from the community, however if you have come to spend quality time and participate in all round activities in the forum such as ranking up, joining signature campaigns, then merit is a must thing for you in this regard.
Welcome to the forum and read the rules first.

I will be grateful if any good minded person can kindly throw more light that to enable understand in details.

I believe you should check this post out to understand what the merit is all about
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350

The merit system was implemented in 2018 the forum Admin due to the rampant increase of shit posters and the need for quality post on the forum. It is the reward you get for creating good, useful, quality and helpful post here on the forum. I believed your friend should have informed you a bit about the merit along side as a requirement for you to rank up. When you make good post you are rewarded merits by members who finds your post of quality and helpful to him or the community. For every one merit you earn, you have 0.5 smerits(sendable merit) so if you earn two merits, you get 1 smerits which you can give to other members you find their post helpful.

Thank you for this convincing explanation, I will also want to ask if there are future plans to change the merit system. I understand that the actual merits are not sendable to others and only the sMerits can be sent. I'm curious to know if for instance, I can also gift out of my actual merit to a user.

Merit system here works like a gold if you get one means youre good poster and someone must have like you.  But the thing is you need to understand clearly how it works, as those some newbies thought that having merit is good for earning money here but yeah it could be a source by joining signature campaign when they rank up but its also a bread and butter to some since its the fundamental of the forum. Before I always trying to earn this merit just to rank up but now I viewed it as something improvement to myself when I received one and of course you should not hoard it hence give it too to some you think improving as well.

Merit is the reward someone receive from his quality post in this forum, because without you develop quality post in the forum to impact others users and make them to show interest on your thread to merits you, you will not improve in the forum because we use merits to rank up in this forum. You can see different rank members in this thread which is the evidence of the merits they earned in the past that made them to achieved all those merits to became such members in the forum, and if you can be serious to continue learning from this forum and other related books that related to cryptocurrency, I believe you will begin to experience merits from your quality post. All you need to do to make your plans successful in this forum without any challenges, try to read and study the rules and regulations that governed this forum, because there is what will call merits abuse and if you find yourself to such habit you will not like what will happen to your account.

If I am being honest with you, I have never researched what the Forum says about Merit precisely.  But I think there is some sort of 'common sense' along the Forum Members about who deserves Merit.

Typically, the people who send out Merits either do it to support some body who put a lot of effort into a Reply or Thread, which I think is the universal acceptance of who Merits should be sent to.  You write a well constructed post or you share knowledge of yours that is relevant.  As a reward, you earn Merits which allow you to grow your account.

But then there are also people who send out Merits because they agree with a post.  Which I think is a controversial way of distributing Merits and I always choose NOT to do it but show support through my own Replies instead.  This is controversial because while opinions are important, in my opinion it should not be a reason to earn Merits.  Particularly if the opinion is not well constructed but just agreed with.

However.  While controversial, there are people earning a TON of Merits not even for opinions or knowledge, but kind of randomly.  Check out the Wall Observer thread in the Speculation Board and tell me why so much Merit is sent out to so many people.

Well.  Now I am going to get bashed for what I just said!  I just do not understand how that Thread works if you ask me, I never understand it.  Particularly if you are out of touch with it for a few days, you will understand nothing.

My opinion is.  Show effort and you will earn Merits and implicitly grow your account to higher Bitcoin Talk ranks.  This is the best way to do it.  BUT.  The higher ranked you are, the harder it becomes to earn Merits.  You need to continue sharing more and more knowledge, helping out more and proving you deserve more over all.  As a Newbie, I really think it is very easy to grow your account if you show interest in becoming a more reputable Member of the Forum.

Good luck.

This is a nice question from you op and I know you must have seen so many responses
And to add to what others have written there are ranks in this forum starting from newbie to legendary and for you to attain those  ranks you have number of merits to earn in other to achieve that and for you to earn merits , there is need for you to make a quality contribution in any discussion you engage on or starting a new topic with a quality post .

Op this forum is filled with intelligent persons and your post must be quality enough to impress any of the merit source for them to award merits to you.And outside the merits source any member of the forum can also give you merits if he or she has a sendable merits and it all also depend on the quality of your post or contribution as well.

Lastly , before making post I will suggest you read some of the threads of the high ranked members to know how to start a quality post or contribute in a discussion. I will also advice you not to focus on merits now learn to write quality posts and merits  will come when you don’t even expect it . Once again welcome to the forum .

Here on Bitcoin Talk merits work for you to rank up you on a higher position if you start to get merits one by one and sometimes you get more than merits at a time this will help you to rank up, the more you rank up you may get more reputation on the forum and now you may think how you can earn merits on the forum... For this forum need your good contribution, quality post and your quality post will be appreciated by your senior members in the form of merits.

i am sharing a thread that will help you to understand the system of merits and positions on BitcoinTalk. You just need to give it a look, and then you will easily understand it.... here is the link to the thread...>>>FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit. you are welcome to the forum.

Merit is just like a reward for your content. If you post meaningful and constructive content, that will help the forum members merit your post, so for you to get the merit, you are going to take your time in writing or creating posts so that people will give you their smerit. It is also used to determine your rank in the forum. There is a certain number of merits that you will get before you reach the rank. For example, if you have 10 merits with 60 activities, you will be a member rank in the forum, and if you have 100 merits, you will be a full member. and any merit you get, you will get half of it as spendable merit, which you can also send to other people's posts.

But for you to get these merits, you must learn many things on the forum. Since you just joined the forum, I believe engaging in some discussion will be a challenge for you, so you need to learn about crypto currency and some other things. In fact, just take a look at the other people's posts, and you will learn from their posts.

If your goals are to gain knowledge about bitcoin (and cryptocurrencies), as well as to share experiences and communicate on this forum, then in principle you don’t really need merit (there is no need to strive to get it). You can do all this from your Newbie account, except that you can't publish pictures here until you receive Member rank. If you really want, you can get Cooper member rank for a small donation to the forum. So, if you don’t have long-term goals of moving up the rank system, then you can’t even pay attention to merit (as well as activity).

It surprises me how a newbie that has just been on the forum for 6 days is already asking about the merit system, there are other important rules about the community which you need to know about, if you go against those rules, you will face the consequences. Get to know the forum rules, stay active on the forum and you will even know how the merit works.
Maybe he is new to this forum and even he doesn't know how Merit works? For which maybe he wanted to know about Merit. I think its not wrong to ask because as a newbie many members ask such questions we should answer them properly. In fact, one of the reasons why people are so concerned about merit is that it shows their worth. Maybe all members of this forum have the right to ask all kinds of forum related questions, I think asking about merit is also within the rules of this forum.

Apprentices need to know from the very beginning how merit works and how to earn merit or how much merit earns a rank or how much activity earns a rank membership. Whenever a member's post is constructively informative, if someone likes that post, they can give it a merit gift.
Yeah he's a newbie with about 5 post and 6 activities and from his profile I think the account was created recently hence the question, however I see no wrong in the question he asked cause it's better for someone to ask questions when they got no clue about things in the forum, especially fo newbies. It shows their willingness to learn and as an old member of the forum you're in position to help newbies get more knowledge about the forum.

Yes there are some other important rules and regulations about the forum, but that doesn't mean knowing how the merits works and it's benefits in the forum is not important as well, infact it's one of the most important thing every forum member needs to take note of cause asides the activity the merits is one of the key criteria to ranking up.

Well my advice to newbies is that they should take their time to study the forum properly, learn the policy of the forum and don't fail to ask questions concerning things you come across and have no clue of, there are lots of members that would be willing to guide you through your journey here.

Merits is a system of rewarding people for the quality of their post and when a certain number of it has been accumulated it will be used to rank up on the forum but then before you will be able to rank up well enough, you will need to have a certain amount of activities aswell so in as much as you are Ben merited for the quality of your post, your activities should aswell correspond with the total number of post you have been able to make so it will making you eligible to rank up.

Yo may have to just make sure to study a d increase your knowledge about cryptocurrency and there are many post on the forum that elaborates on things you should know about cryptocurrency and even other aspects of financial activities which will help your knowledge well enough. There are other post too which talks about merits well enough that's if you are not satisfied with this explanation you can always make reference to them in the beginners and help board.

Merits are like tokens, valueless as in the context of money but have great value in terms of rank. As this forum system has a mechanism to rank people on the basis of how much merits they earned. If you have 100 merits then you are full, if you have 250 then you are senior members but not only merits are required but activity as well. Read this post to get an idea.

Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?

Besides ranking, merits are achieved/earned by contributing to the forum, like by providing useful replies, and topics, and bringing something to the forum that makes it more famous I guess. Overall, you have to contribute by legit ways, as fake ways have there own consequences. Best of Luck.

Merit is the forum's currency for appreciation of quality of a user's posts. Besides activity it is also required to level up your account status. If you're only interested in the latter, it will be a hard ride. Not impossible, but hard work. As you pretend to be interested in crypto coin stuff, you should focus more an that than on merit and such.

Learn to use the built-in forum search or use https://ninjastic.space/search which gives you a nice search experience. Don't be lazy and don't ask for spoon feeding, both not very much appreciated here...
If you had searched the Merit topic or followed pinned threads you would've found a lot about it already. Newbies seem to fear search or the effort involved. I'm deliberately maybe a bit provocative...

Try to structure your sentences a bit more, 445 characters in an endless sentence I don't consider reading friendly.

Whoa, let's ease up on the zeal and passion stuff.  This isn't a cult, it's just an online community. A big message board if you know what those are.  Same idea here, we just focus more on certain topics.

Anyway you asked about merit right? Thats basically like getting points for being helpful.  Ask good questions, share useful information, just be a solid member of the community.  Do that and you'll be golden here.
