For me it's electrum. It is a lightweight Bitcoin wallet. It has been around for years and is under active development. All source codes are opened. Here is their official website, beware of scammer and pshing site.

https://electrum.org
Electrum is good wallet, but be sure to use newest version of it. On previous versions there was security vulnerability was found.
Hardwallets like Trezor or Ledger. If you don't have money, you can store on Electrum for some time. But in the future, I strongly recommend to spend $70-100 on a hardwallet
Agree with you. It's better to make small investment to buy hardware wallet and secure coins than loose all your btc when you catch keylogger or something similar.
are all the wallets safe ?

There are no wallets which are 100% safe. Paper and hardware wallets considered as the safest wallets. If you want at least minimal level of safety - you must control your private keys.
Aside from BTC, are all altcoins can be put there also?

Consider getting a hardware wallet like Ledger Nano S or Trezor, these offer the most security. If you're planning to store a considerable amount of crypto then it's well worth the money.

I totally agree that Electrum is next in line to hardware wallets.. It is completely secure as long as you don't compromise your computer's security.

I like Binance as they provide 0.1% fee. And they are continuously working to improve. I used to respect hitbtc but after I lost $100 there I became a hater. Now I keep binance acc, coinbase acc and recently got a freewallet acc cause they are really working hard to keep low fees and do btc transactions quite fast and cheep.

And I also use hardware Trezor for BTC only.
In short-term, keeping your money on the exchange will make motivated to do business. If you want to sell can sell immediately, no need to wait and transfer money away. But if you want to store it for a long time, you will need a hard wallet like a trezor or a ledger for security.

Is coinbase safe though?

Well it's not a wallet per se.

From the sticky:
Services like Coinbase and Circle offer “Bitcoin wallets”, but in reality control your private keys. It’s best to use a wallet where you control your private keys. This is the only way to have full control of your funds and not have to rely on third parties for security.

Well, if there are not so much money, we can use coinbase or bitcoin.com wallet, or Electrum, they help to control your private keys and make the wallet more simple.

If you concern the security, then use hardwallet.

Use case
1. Pocket money bag, mobile wallet or online wallet. Convenient for the main, the amount of money to deposit is very small, even if in case of lost, not afraid. Convenience first.
2. Store wallet and large amount of coin wealth. Safety first, whether convenient second.

Personal advice in choosing a way to store, should choose according to their own actual situation, often need to exchange currency, need to choose providers with high reputation, and no stolen record trading platform. If you want to store a large number of bitcoins, you can choose the library's cold wallet so that the provider can rely on the spectrum and use the high security factor.

There are many types of electronic wallets. E-wallet is only a third-party service provider. If you want the safest, go back to your wallet or computer and store it. Wallet online, I recommend using conbase, blockchain or xapo. The wallet I listed already has the mobile app.

Dave u for a hardware wallet. $100 for one is nothing compared to what you could lose. Do not take chances. Even the best of us make mistakes and have lost money. You need a good backup method and backups. Make as many backups as you can and keep them printed out and your hardware wallet counts as one and you can keep another digital copy on a flash drive.

With me, its Electrum (software wallet). Because Electrum is a popular, free storage option in the bitcoin community, and is one of the most, if not the most, well-respected desktop storage apps out there.

I use Electrum and I haven't had any issue with it for a long time now. It's not my only wallet but it's the one I use the most
