The lack of education. Some may say it's because of their laziness, but then not everyone can afford to pay tuition fee or any other school fees. Furthermore, scholarships might be available but it can not cater everyone.

Completely perfectly agreed. People are poor because of their laziness and not liking job opportunities . Whatver your occupation is , you must work hard to gain a lot of money. If someone wants to earn a lot without any effort , he or she is doomed to be poor for sure.

Once again, you are over-looking the root cause. I agree that flooding and natural catastrophes are a major concern in many of the third world nations. But at the same time, why are people being forced to live in areas which are more prone to flooding and hurricanes? The reason is uncontrolled population explosion. There is no living room else where and therefore the people are forced to live in these areas.

The common cause of poverty is because of our way of thinking in the real world, we are intact in our old passion lifestyle. We limit our self in a huge opportunity because of our fear and laziness to perform new things that can improved our life. We blame our country because of their poor leadership but the truth is, we our the one who do not perform our duty as individual to succeed. Yes, Poverty cannot be eliminated but we can lessen them by helping each and everyone to become successful individual.

You forgot one important factor - addiction to alcohol and drugs. I am living in a third world nation, and I have seen poor people spending more than 75% of their daily income on alcohol. This may not be a big issue in Muslim nations such as Pakistan, as alcohol is banned there. But I have heard that drug abuse is wide-spread in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This is a really loaded question. There are a variety of reasons that a country can be poverty stricken, and it's not as simple as the wealthy filling their pockets, or laziness.

Poverty can exist in countries because of war, racism (locals not hiring foreigners or people from groups they oppose), political strife (Israel and the Gaza), natural disasters, lack of fertile land or exploitable resources, corruption, lack of available jobs, a lack of important technologies like irrigation, and more.

Laziness, as other people have been arguing, is a conviction with little merit. Laziness is indicative of character; if you are lazy in character, you will be lazy no matter your financial situation. But I think most people who live in poverty would rather not, and it's a strong enough motivator that, if there is support, a chance to escape, people will work hard to improve their situation.

The problem is when there's a lack of support, or if the economic structure of a country is such that a significant amount of capital is needed to escape poverty, then the illusion of laziness is likely just a mask for hopelessness.

If countries had a basic income (it's not so simple, another complexity in itself), it would become a lot easier for people to at least maintain a basic standard of living at a lower cost to the state and of greater benefit to those who are stuck in poverty traps.

I'll stop now before I write an essay, but I will say that people who are blindly assuming "laziness" to be the sole cause of poverty are absolutely delusional, and need a lesson in basic thought.

Laziness would be the number one reason in my opinion. Many people dont want to work and would rather live off government benefits.

Most common reasons for being poor are lack of education and laziness. How can you expect someone to eat fish if they don't know how to fish and thst they don't have the proper knowledge and tools in able to do it. Moreover, there are some people who knows how to do it but chooses not to because they are lazy or they lack motivation. Success in life means that you know what you are good at so you can realize your potentials and tgen persevere, stopping at nothing unless the goal is achieved.

The  common cause of poverty,  is just sit down without doing anything, laziness, too much sleeping, poor attitude and poor mentality, are the common cause of poverty.

Laziness is the first problem of poverty there are people who are not interested if they want to achieve anything in their life.They are very irresponsible on their obligations so thats many people in our community are poor.

I agree with you. The common cause of poverty is laziness. There are so many lazy people that they just wanna receive money or help from other people. They do not find job just to sustain for their daily living. I do not know why there are people who are very irresponsible with their life. They are burden to the society.

one of the cause of poverty is attitude,  if you are stubborn and lazy and not wanting to work,  then you will die poor.  Another is job opportunities.  Even if you wanted to have a job that Mich and there were no availability,  then you starve. And being dependent to the government. Our government has many issues to solve to actually make time to take one on one with the people on resolving poverty issues.  As individuals we have to stand up and make a move. It is not a sin being poor but allowing yourself to die poor is.

lack of education and certainly lack of resource are the common causes of poverty. Any one with good education and knowledge can overcome poverty by hard work and stay away from poverty world. in addition, Lack of foresightedness, proper friends etc. they remain poor.

Poverty is caused by a number of factors. But for me the leading causes are corruption and poor governanceof a country.

Corruption and lack of education are the main cause of poverty. However, there are a lot of factors that causes poverty. Lack of employment program, of lack of resources can be a factor that could affect a country.

I think there are too many intellectual phantasies on this subject, the common cause of poverty is the lack on money, and I can prove it. I remember that when I had no money I was poor.

For me the lack of will to strive and to work smart and hard is the common cause of poverty, people get easily discourage because of some social disabilities.

This problem always makes us think a lot in this age. Poor countries are more often in the African region, more often than victims, with the death rate of millions of people per year. Cause: poor countries have narrow budget, scarce resources, the majority of countries in Africa are desert, defective machinery technology, rudeness, work capacity slope increasingly poor drugs, etc.) for non-special workers, especially in poor countries, those with little literacy, personal documents. Every year, they receive the assistance of developed countries but can not.

How can you improve the quality of education, if the population is increasing without any control? Population is the real problem here. Unless this issue is resolved, you will not be able to solve the other issues, such as lack of education, poverty, lack of quality healthcare, unemployment, and homelessness.
