If someone would asked me like that then the best answer I could give is giving them a link. Grin

It will take a week I guess before they digest what we have to tell to a person if they really want to learn more about Bitcoin.

But if they want a simple answer then I would just simply answer that it's a decentralized crypto currency that's being supported by the community that's why it's value is increasing thus, everyone is using it then it's highly volatile that no one could predict the right price.

If they weren't tech-savvy enough to understand what I'm telling them, then perhaps, a guide or an infographics would suffice their curiosity and I'm sure they can find something like that on Youtube.

Not explaining it? I mean I get that there is a responsibility feeling in the crypto world where people want to explain to people that you could make some money with it and all that, but the reality is that you do not have to explain it to people yourself personally. Bitcoin is such an online thing, and if they really want to learn, they could just google it.

Writing "what is bitcoin" on google would give you a million answers, from the simplest to the most detailed one, and people could read whatever they want in there. I know it's not going to be so simple for many people, but that's how it should be, just googling it, why bother us with it to begin with?

I wouldn't call it easy, but teaching or inviting someone to join in investing in bitcoin is actually simple.

• make sure the person you are inviting must at least have a mobile phone, and often play social media. just direct those who originally like to play social media so research and learn about bitcoin on the internet.
• the second must be the closest person, for example family, friends who play with us, work together. this will make it easier for us to teach them about bitcoin. there will be no awkwardness when teaching it because it is the person closest to us almost every day always together.
• Third, make sure that the person you are going to invite must already have a job and income. Because this is also an investment, you must have capital. Therefore, you must invite friends or relatives who already have jobs and income.

It is hard to explain bitcoin to a regular person. Tell him in brief. If he is interested, he will do the research himself and get involved. In the journey, he will develop some doubts. But there are forums like bitcointalk which he will anyway discuss on searching queries related to crypto on Google. You can only show a direction to the person, you cannot hold his hand and make him invest in bitcoin.

I think it is a lot easier for Bitcoin to be explained to a normal person than somebody who has a lot of technical knowledge related to coding or software development and their related fields. I can easily tell a normal person like me that Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency. It could actually end there depending if he has a follow up question or not. I can expound on it a bit by saying the differences it has with fiat.

Very basic things necessary to make a common person or a techny who hadn't used to it, mobile with little balance in bitcoin. Another mobile with a wallet. Bitcoin chart to explain how the price have moved from the bottom to the present market. Aaprt from this, list of services that can be enjoyed using bitcoin.

Surely there arises a question why can't it be handled as we use paper currency. By the time we need to explain what is meant by virtual currency. Further showing them in the wallet will give them better understanding. Now make a transaction and show the other mobile reflecting the transaction. This will give an understanding how transaction happens without the involvement of third party.

Next part is to brief about the growth happened through the years. This might interest him to go for it or learn further. Maybe if he's interested he'll comeback requesting to support in learning more. If not just leave it and support others who are fond of knowing bitcoin.

Documentaries, analogies, making it as simple as possible.

I didn't try to share my knowledge with other people until now even though I'm investing in crypto for around 4-5 years already, but I'm ready incase one person approaches me and wanted to know more about Bitcoin.

Documentaries are the ones who helped me learn Bitcoin even more. For a newbie, it's kind of overwhelming I agree, but after watching more and more documentaries, you will learn even more and more. I mean there are many documentaries in Youtube regarding the history of Bitcoin, how it works etc. I believe it will help a regular person. Analogies are I think a good way for newbies to understand it way easier. Explain it as simple as possible so that they will understand it better thus, they will be more focused on it instead of them getting overwhelmed by these terms that they just heard for the first time.

I believe there are many ways for each of us to explain Bitcoin to a newbie, but these are I think the ways for a newbie to understand it way easier.

to explain bitcoin to ordinary people, of course, the first thing that requires interest from the person is to learn bitcoin. and as a person who teaches bitcoin, of course, you have to be patient in explaining bitcoin to people who are interested in learning bitcoin.

and I think you can also ask the person to join this forum.

Explaining bitcoin and it's complexity to someone new especially if the person doesn't have the interest isn't an easy task and in a country like mine where it seems to be a taboo to invite someone to make investment in digital assets especially after what the popular Ponzi scheme (MMM) did to people some years back.
I believe there are other ways the gospel of cryptocurrency can be preacher to people even without having to speak a single word directly such as
~ printing of banner/fliers/stickers etc
~ social media publications
~ church/ public gathering announcements.

The first option of fliers and sticker printing have been done previously by a forum member here and I loved the initiative and I would suggest more of that.

I believe the easiest way to explain bitcoin to someone is first to understand them and use what they are familiar with to explain it to them, for example, if someone is a gamer explaining bitcoin to them is easier as you would simply tell them bitcoin is digital money that you can use to buy goods and services like you need coins to upgrade your game characters gear using coins or points accumulated.

Of course, there is no one definition that fits all, but nothing beats the definition of bitcoin is digital money without its physical form Cheesy

But then again bitcoin is not only money in its form, it can also be a store of value like owning a vintage car today and if kept in its pristine condition.. can be sold for some extra cash a few years later  Wink

Usually I just explain the tip on it because most of the people who ask me know that bitcoin has a high price, so their purpose is to earn profit on it. I just explained what the real purpose of bitcoin is before most people knew it as an investment and how I've earned from it. I don't really go deep into it, as I'm sure they won't understand. Then I would also give them links and videos to learn more about bitcoin.

You can explain them from knowledge to practice but you can do it inversely from practice to knowledge.

I'd like to choose the inverse explanation, from practice to knowledge.

I will show them how to make a transaction with Bitcoin. It is to show them the process is very easy. Then I will show them how to create a wallet, get a receiving address, how to back up and recover wallet.

Very last thing, how to secure their wallet file and how to download wallet from official website.

Verify wallet is important but it is advanced and I can explain it to them after they already have experience with Bitcoin.

For us, we used freebitco.in first and it basically showed us everything we need to know from a beginner's standpoint.
Introducing Bitcoin to a regular person through Freebitco.in is really a bad idea. It was known as the longest Bitcoin faucet, but now they're add gambling in their sites. Not a good way to let a newbie know if Bitcoin is generated through a faucet site, they will get a misconception about faucet, mining and cloud mining. I think that's why many people get scammed due to cloud mining and ponzi scheme, because they think Bitcoin is really easy to earn.

If the regular person can't control themselves, they would fall in gambling and they will become an addict.

You need to start to explain Bitcoin by compare it to fiat and bank, they will learn how Bitcoin solve the centralization problem in this world.

Most people are always wary of new things, fear of being scammed and fear of losing money are common in human psychology. I have failed many times to recommend bitcoin to my friends, and I find it a very difficult task.
In today's society, people with money are always right, I mean, their words have more weight than those who have nothing, so the best way for people to listen to us is to be better than them. You need to prove your finances are good thanks to bitcoin then when you talk about bitcoin, they will listen to you.

Actually, we have no problem explaining bitcoin or crypto to other people but the problem is that many of them are not very interested in bitcoin. Many people still think they cannot join bitcoin for many reasons, which makes them close themselves off from receiving information that might benefit them in the future.

But if they are interested in knowing what bitcoins are, we can explain how to use bitcoins properly, how to choose a wallet to store bitcoins, how to buy and sell bitcoins, how to treat bitcoins as an investment and more.

A comparison would be your best method I think? Then maybe cite some examples of how it's good by giving counter-examples in the other comparison (in this case fiat ) where advantages of Bitcoin (or crypto in general) could be revealed, such as banks locking your own accounts from you or something like that. I don't think there's any need to explain the nitty gritty details of the tech behind it, unless they asked ofc, but then with that they'd need a certain level of understanding what blockchain is so you'd have to start from there.

I think the best explanation is something like this:
"Bitcoin is a digital currency that allows for fast and secure online transactions without the need for a bank or other intermediary. It operates on a decentralized network called the blockchain, which is a public ledger that records all bitcoin transactions. Think of it as virtual cash that you can use to buy goods and services, with the added benefit of being able to send money to anyone in the world with just an internet connection."
I don't think there is a point in oversimplifying things, people need to learn what blockchain is and they need to learn about bitcoin.
I hope schools will start teaching about it soon.

It can be hard if you try to get into the technicals of the technology and how it works and how to set up wallets and how cryptographic keys work and mining and stuff.

But just to explain what it is is pretty easy. It's just hard/scarce money like Gold, except way better, which is why it is so valuable. And it is digital so included is a payment platform that works globally with anyone who has the internet, no need for banks - you bank yourself, no red tape or expensive fees to send between countries, just anyone who has access to the internet is an equal user who can use it freely and send or receive from anyone in the world.

It's an extremely valuable currency and a totally open global payment network and its the most secure network in the world.

But yeah if you go beyond that and start talking about how the technology and the network and everything works and trying to explain blockchain that's when it gets confusing. And I guess it gets confusing if they start saying like "well governments make currencies so who makes Bitcoin?" and questions like that because they probably aren't prepared to understand how money works.
