Recently, it came to my curiosity in finding ways on how to properly hide Bitcoin from prying eyes. For a hardcore crypto enthusiast like me, storing Bitcoin safely without driving unwanted attention is a must. Thanks to Bitcoin's portability, one can easily store thousands of dollars (USD) worth of Bitcoin in even the smallest places you could ever imagine. What comes to my mind is storing Bitcoin on a microSD card, put it on a small "Ziploc" bag, and tape it underneath a table. But I think this could by discovered by a smart thief. I've heard about "nanoSD cards" from Huawei which are even smaller than traditional microSD cards. But not many devices support this. A small piece of paper with the mnemonic/seed could work, but it can be damaged with water and fire.

This makes me wonder what is the most discreet (and efficient) way to hide your crypto from thieves? I'm open to suggestions. Feel free to share your wild and crazy ideas about it here. Thanks in advance. Smiley

I myself also looking for a safe way to store my Bitcoin in a very secure wallet, so that it will avoid thieves. I think storing our bitcoin data on micro SD / nanoSD is also very prone to data damage. which is feared that the microSD / nanoSD is damaged or corrupt.

Plenty of great replies, but this reminds me of a story I read some time ago. Where a love letter was found hidden inside the arm of a wooden chair 100+ years after it had been hidden.

So yeah I think going overkill is definitely possibly  Wink

Depends on what kind of thief you're afraid of. The one that goes inside for a few minutes when you cut grass in the garden, or the one who watches your house for days until you finally go abroad or to another town for a day and then goes in and spends hours searching the house.
A card under the table will survive the first but not the second type. When they know they have time they'll break everything and check every drawer.

It's not a problem. You buy a card reader that connects to USB port. You only need 1 to be able to read the card with any device.

Use Monero. That way no one can link your transactions to your identity.  So no one knows you have any Monero in the first place. Safest money is the one no one knows it exist in the first place.

Decoy money in a semi easy location so someone searching Will find it but not in the first few seconds.  Make it enough that it looks like a small stash.  500 bucks or something.  and for those that are a little more paranoid.   Hardware wallet inside a Faraday cage made to look like a mouse or Rat trap.  can even put a dead rat in it !

Silly but not the point.

Put the SD card inside time capsule and cement it under your room floor or garage floor. No one will ever get it even the smartest of all time unless he see you burying it on the floor.

Its secure from people, but if any disaster happen, maybe it will hard to rediscover your treasury inside.
My idea is print the passphrase on something (not paper) which waterproof and fireproof, but print it on really small size, so you need tools to read it for backup.

Safety deposit box at home? then hide it not just from the prying eyes of thieves but to everyone else, maybe in your room and build a secret compartment.

Or if someone is really paranoid then get a deposit box in a bank near your place. And you can store everything, not just your crypto asset, but all personal things that really needs protection for many years.

Doing all that in the first paragraph will even make you get paranoid whenever anyone gets close to where you kept it unknowingly and that can give you away. What about disaster happening in the house where you stored it and destroying all traces of it?

Several piece of papers of seed pharse in the house more than enouhg as for me
This is the easiest and coolest way to do it for me also. But may be it is not for people who hold alot of bitcoin.

I think there is no excellent way to hide crypto wallets keys or tokens from thieves; if there were excellent ways then we would not have new platforms offering different alternatives and method.

MY OPINION: I think the safest way when it comes to hiding your crypto from thieves is to choose a single method to store your seed phrases and then protect it. If you want to keep your seed phrases on email; then open a new email, back it up with the 3 2fa options, never use it for airdrop, bounty or personal uses. Save up your keys there and do not log in the email; just remember ur log in information. And never use your investment wallets for airdrop or bounties; key word investment

I think the best way to hide your own crypto from thieves is by concealing your interest in crypto and not sharing your portfolio with others so that they won't build any interest in stealing from you. If ever they know that you have a ton of crypto it would be better for you to put it up into a hard wallet like a ledger and make a partition into your hodlings by putting it on multiple ledgers (this is advisable if you know that someone is threatening your assets).

I will tell you about my life!

Currently, I have a quite comfortable and peaceful life, my job is also very simple to sell some items online. And that's probably not how I generate income in my everyday life, this market gives me more opportunities and I love it. But what about my property, I am very assured because no one knows what I have. People still know that I am a normal person as they see it, from there the way I see it is to live normally, you will not have to fear anything. The more you fear it will happen, the faster it will come to you.

I will put my bitcoin in hardware wallet and spread it. Let say uou have 10 bitcoin then spread it in to 4-5 hardware wallet so when bitcoin reach $100k people will not notice your wallet. And also put your hardware wallet in the safest place in the world, i heard many people who has a lot of btc put their btc in xapo, xapo have safest place to store your off line wallet.

You can use all of the above you've mentioned and use a bank vault to keep your private keys, you will have to pay a yearly fee but the benefits outweighs the cost, your private keys are safe in a John Wick movie John kept a vault from one bank to safeguard his important documents , just choose the right bank to keep your vault.

Keeping it on a card like micro SD is also fine and you put it in an easy to spot such as an open space so people won't realize it's important.
people will think someone is hiding things in a difficult place so we do the opposite.

I trust hardware wallet to secure my coins and did not share that address anywhere where I keep my bitcoins  but you are concerned how to secure your coins from theif  for that you must shuffle some words of your keys that you can remember and thus nobody can access that.

Maybe just split your privkey into several parts and store it somewhere you can remember. I mean, imagine if you store several parts of your privkey between many storage media and somewhat hidden it's gonna be a hell for the thieves trying to find it and it can't be exposed easily.
Also, by splitting like this you can create multiple copy incase you forgot where you put one part of your privkey. Encryption also could boost the safety of your crypto.
In fact, initially you need not to pretend that you own some kind of cryptocurrency assets, so that a real thief does not look for secret keys to your assets. The main thing is to ensure that there is no leakage of classified information into the network. In addition, the main thing is not to attract any attention of hackers, so that they do not begin to be interested in your data.

Banks? I mean you do know that you could put anything you want on a bank vault right? There are personalized bank vaults, not those huge funny "let's go rob a banks vault" type of thing, those are rarely in some places, others do not even have a huge one, it is just a regular room size usually.

However what I am talking about is the regular personal vault things that are basically drawers but opens with keys from you and the bank worker, so you can go there and put anything you want and nobody can open it without your key or the banks key, if they steal your key, they still have to convince them that they are you, and bank won't bite it, so basically it is as safe as it gets (pun intended).

You could have like 10 different usb and put it on 10 different bank and make sure that none of that would get hurt, or just do it for one bank and put 2 copies that should normally be enough.

Hardware wallet are sure the best ways to store bitcoin and other crypto currencies, but for starters who can't afford a hardware wallet, you can get a good bitcoin mobile wallet but you have to keep your private keys in a very secure place.
For example, I have been using mobile wallets since 2016 I got into crypto, I've never had any issues of wallet hack or any thing near that, I used alot of wallets like coinomi, myetherwallet, Imtoken, metamax, monarch wallet, am currently using trust wallet and I've never hard any issues with any of this wallets.

Not letting them know that you have crypto or probably buy a ledger and write down your private key buy a vault bury it somewhere or probably memorize your private key or 24 words recovery seed. With that no one will going to steal it from you.
