Gamblers were seen as irresponsible people in my town few years ago. Parents usually warn their children never to indulge in gambling or associate with people who gamble. However, a lot has changed recently as gambling has become one of the biggest business here. As a result of that, societal perception has also improved as many testimonies of life-changing wins from gambling has emerged.

I don't know if this is only happening in my area or is a general trend, hence the reason I created this post. Let's know what people think about gamblers and how well the gambling business is faring in your area.

My people still despise gambling and consider it an illegal way of making money, and they despise those who engage in it. Many people I know who gamble in my neighbourhood do so publicly rather than at online casinos, and the majority of them are still poor or living below the poverty line. All of their earnings are spent on gambling, which provides them with nothing in return, which is why my people here are opposed to it. Maybe those who do it online still make it big through gambling, but everything is done in a coded way that they keep hidden from the public. Rich people, in my opinion, have a better chance at gambling than poor people.

When talking about the stigma of society, IMHO almost all every region will almost certainly consider gambling to be one of the bad and irresponsible behaviors and this will not be changed because in the end there is indeed an element where gambling behavior is detrimental which will definitely be considered as irresponsible behavior by many people.
In my area it is also the same, although in the end it depends on each of us if we want to gamble as long as it does not harm others then it is not something that is difficult.

Things like this will not be changed at any time because it is also a form of defense from those who do not gamble. But that does not mean that those who do gambling are considered wrong because in the end I think it is a choice and as long as it does not harm others and can still balance and not focus too much on gambling activities then I think it is not a problem as for other views we just need to allow it because we cannot force everyone's perception in this matter.

I don't know if this is only happening in my area or is a general trend,
I do not think it will be a general trend because if so, why are more people moving to online gambling?(Not data to support this, just from observation), It can not be just because of the ease. It also has to do with people not wanting to be seen by others around them who may think highly of them as addicted gamblers. Gambling is still perceived badly in some places, and anyone known to be a regular gambler is seen as irresponsible.

If you live in a very religious environment and if your country strictly prohibits gambling then you will experience discrimination because of your gambling activities, Luckily i live in a country that doesn't prohibit gambling at all, but that doesn't mean my environment accepts that, there are many parents whose demonstrating to urge offline casino gambling to be closed here because there are many young people who gamble in it, this is what saddens me to see because the gambling business owners here do not prohibit children under the age of 21 who are still the responsibility of their parents from playing gambling inside their casino.

Gambling has never been seen as a good thing here and it doesn't just depend on customs, religion and something else in particular. Things that can be detrimental mentally and financially are never considered good things to do continuously, gambling is one of them that has a bad impact on the finances and mentality of the players when they don't do it responsibly.

I'm just wondering why you would expect a different opinion when the effects of gambling are considered bad all over the world. This industry is very profitable, but it is also detrimental when someone is not able to do it responsibly. This kind of opinion not only exists there, but everywhere also admits it.

The way people in a particular area treat and view those who gamble is based on how those who are gambling in that area live their lives. When the majority of gamblers in a particular area gamble to the extent that they don't have self-control, they gamble with whatever they have in their possession. They transfer their lost aggression to their loved ones and everyone close to them.

You will see parents who stay in such areas with their children advising their children to stay away from such activities that make those people behave the way they are. It's natural for parents and people to think that way.

They don't know that this gambling addiction is just something that is based on someone's personal decision and nothing more than that. Unless they see someone who makes a difference using the same thing to make it successful and still leave a better life, they will treat it as something that is illegal and has negative consequences for the lives of those who get involved in it.

Gamblers having bad images is a normal thing. One reason is societal expectations and religious beliefs on gambling itself. However, the activities that we engage ourselves into, is quite perceived by other people as who you are and we just cannot do anything about it. Just keep on betting especially if you know to yourself that you are not being impulsive of your bets and consequences of it.

I don't think the societal perception improved just because of testimonies from gamblers about their life-changing wins or because gambling has become one of the biggest industry. what I think helped improve people's perception about gamblers a lot is that we know more about the mentl issues gamblers can experience, their struggles, how can it happen, etc...
I guess it will never be one sided to every situation. Perhaps you win in a gambling casino huge amount of money. Other people have higher tendency to be jelous than be afraid of what happened. People who are in doubt of gambling in general are also making valid points but not that all. There are just people who really supports the entertainment behind gambling and betting. And to those who are neutral and against of how gambling works, no hate comments still. The only problem is is more communication and honesty ofcourse gambling. Unless they see it for themselves, then they would continue wondering what it is.

IMO, wherever you go, people will think badly of what gambling is. And there's no reason to hate them because that's the taboo and stereotype that everyone thinks about it. It's like a drug that people should avoid but then very addicted when someone was able to become one. In my neighborhood, it's like having a casual day when everyone sees everyone doing their own thing including gambling. And that's why it is not a matter of thing to think of as it's already been slightly accepted where I live.

So what happened that changed the views on that so radically? Online gambling, Crypto gambling, street gambling, physical casinos, new games or what?
Gambling in our area has most likely moved to online, there are less and less physical casino activity, slot machines have build in KYC system now. So does lotteries etc. So KYCS in crypto casinos don't really concern us so much, because we are used to that.

But otherwise i haven't seen any change in here. There used to be poker playing trend that passed pretty quickly, as glamour on that dropped quickly after taxation hit to famous players afterwards.

City people wouldn't mind whatever you do with your free time. As long as you are not disturbing them, you do no harm and they will not be nosey about you either. That means they will not talk to you as well. People who are not from the city will feel lonely in a very crowded place that's why some lonely people are gambling to shake the boredom and so the gambling business would thrive in the city too.

But if you are living in a small town where almost everyone knows everybody, you are likely to be visited by someone from the neighborhood to see what you have been doing. And in a place where gambling is completely frowned upon, you are going to be judged.

Society will not have a good perception of gamblers shortly. It's been like that, and most times addicts have helped in skyrocketing the bad name people use on gamblers. Things do change, people no longer concern themselves with the affairs of others in society. Like in a few decades ago. However, young people still benefit from the winning of their friends and celebrate. The fact that adults are getting silent every day, made me wonder about what level of self discipline is the society moving into. Many economic crises in the world, have shifted the thoughts of most people in the society towards the government, and only clamor for a better country. The issue of gamblers is personal, and if one should go around his neighborhood for a survey on people's personal views of gamblers, he'll most likely meet people who don't condone gambling. A few decades ago the response from people all over the streets about gambling was tremendous and enormous. Recently only the affected people complained about how bad gambling has been to the finances of their family, maybe through a son who was a victim of addiction.

Moreover, lots of people would judge gambling from the old knowledge of how people saw gamblers in society. Aside from the adult's parents, the youths don't have any bad publicity about gambling in high numbers. As most of them participate in gambling and have earned some money through it. Although some quite gradually, quit depending on personal experience. Addictions like drugs have also taken the attention of the society around me away from the bad habits of gamblers. They'll prefer that one gambles instead of get addicted to drugs. I think these distractions may have been the reason, other than the reward most people have gotten via gambling. Some of the players would go back broke after living large with money won through gambling. Society wouldn't have a good response to such a transient wealth. Inflation, hardship, low salaries, debts, etc are a bigger concern to society. Only a few care about gamblers. That's why the youths are getting addicted without the knowledge of their parents.

The gambler had their own business apart from the gambling game playing, even though the parents warn the gamblers to get into the gambling game.If the gamblers had their own way towards their habits,So not all the gamblers accept the parents opinion in the first advertise. They will keep the gambling as the secret business to their benefit.Even though the gamblers don’t make good win in the gambling site, their was huge possibilities in their soul happiness in game. The gamblers also hide their involvement because of the society criticism towards him in the gamblers involvement in the gambling for earning money from the gambling site.

Actually, here in my neighborhood people do not actually care about what other do with their money, in that sense, this is a good place for people who would like to keep their privacy intact, as long anything is done behind the walls of one's home.
This is the kind of city where gossip is not a big deal, or at least, that is the impression I have got with all the years I have here, I may be biased because I am not personally interested in partaking in gossip myself, though.

Now, if we imagine an hypothetical situation where my neighbors somehow encountered my in a casino or gambling in any establishment I assume there would be so minor gossip about it, but it would be forgotten quickly and people wont pay much more attention about me being a gambler. My family trust me enough when comes to managing money and they won't get frightened by rumors.

Though, if your society is different and people around you would make a big deal or those rumors I would not be surprised, keeping in mind the big stigma gambling carries on countries in the east of the planet.

Regardless where you are from, I wish ya all a happy new year

However, a lot has changed recently as gambling has become one of the biggest business here.
A lot probably changed because gambling has been modernized, and because of how it has been well packaged. Many people, different genders and from different categories of life are now gamblers. We do not now have only people who gamble for the purpose of trying to make money, but also people who gamble for fun.

As a result of that, societal perception has also improved as many testimonies of life-changing wins from gambling has emerged.

Societal perception has improved because of better buildings and physical structures for gambling, Standard marketing campaigns by some gambling platforms and sponsorships etc.

Some of the criticizers are now gamblers.

Until now, it seems that gamblers are seen as bad by the people in my area because once there was a case of a young gambler who killed a grandmother because he was caught robbing her house, since then in the eyes of the community, gamblers are like a disgrace, where sometimes people act wildly when they are addicted to gambling such as robbing and committing other crimes. Since then, I prefer gambling outside the house rather than gambling openly in public, visible to the people in my neighborhood.

In my country, things are quite similar. In the past, people who gambled were often viewed as irresponsible and without a proper job. This created a negative perception of gambling, with many societies considering it an illicit activity. If someone was caught gambling or became addicted, society tended to distance itself from that person.

Today, in my country, the younger generation has elevated gambling to a new status. Many youths now make a living from gambling, which might be seen as wrong and irresponsible. However, in the challenging economic conditions of our country, the money they earn from gambling is often used to support themselves and their families.

I live in environment not take care more about our activities or job, almost my neighborhoods not care yet what your business and how many hours every day spend in gambling because many of them focus on their self only just take care or communicate with daily activities only.
I don't think with have many cryptocurrency gambling will make your neighborhoods know you are gambler, hidden your self from gambling and make it  in your house only without show them about gambling as your side activities.
But if you not comfortable with neighborhoods around your environment, not bad ideas moving to hidden place where not any one know about your activities about gambling.

if you are a gambler, there may be people you don't wanna know you gamble especially your inlaws but this changed my view as well when my inlaw himself shared his experience about his gambling spree.  he told a head-shaking story i almost don't believe because he doesn't strike me as a gambler.

he said once upon a time, he didn't have enough money to buy milk for his newborn daughter, he watched the game "Hantak" in which 3 coins had to lay heads or tails together to win. he won every time that night and went home with a bunch of diaper boxes and a huge powderedmilk can.

it changed my view of him that night and thought maybe resourcefulness doesn't just mean reinventing stuff and calling friends, gambling strategy could be one
