I personally noticed that when the price of bitcoin goes up, almost all the price of other cryptocurrencies goes up too.  It seems uncertain to figure out why it seems so, but I guess it's because Ethereum is pushed by bitcoin and Ethereum are being used to purchase those coins (just a layman understanding and thoughs thoughts.) As for moving your portfolio,  I suggest  you should slip it and use some to purchase bitcoin and ethereum and still have the other coin.

There is a strong relationship between Bitcoin and other alternative crypto currency which could be discribe in the following manner. When Bitcoin value appreciate since it happen to be the market mover in the crypto currency community all other altcoins turn positive or appreciate in value.

Bitcoin and altcoins are directly connected and basically have a strong relation to each other. We all know bitcoin is the mother of all coins. Different altcoins whatever you call them have one common denominator and that is the bitcoin. They follow the footsteps of bitcoin, although is it true that its value is unstable and keeps on changing from time to time. Still, they cannot be separated and just go along altogether and that's the beauty of cryptocurrency.
I think that only Bitcoin twins have something in common with Bitcoin. Of course, you can compare both Bitcoin cache and Bitcoin Block, but also other Coins, which are created by another protocol, have practically nothing to do with this coin.

This is one of my favorite pictures:

You can see how altcoins just underperform against Bitcoin long term. Very few coins are going to have a sustained gain on a long enough timeframe. If you find good gains with an alt, just sell it for Bitcoin while you can, that's the whole point of altcoins, or else you will eventually see the orange graph go above the green graph.

i saw that picture it was mentioned on a topic that talk about why most ico and token will fail  and he added that pict to make comparison   between btc and other alts  .

talking about profits ,  market is bullish rn  and some alt goes up while other  goes down   and some  stayed the same   which is  interesting  ....   i dont know if it is just a

bulish trap before another dip market or  we may really see a good market next weeks     so  what are your thoughts on that ??

Bitcoin is the king - if Bitcoin's price goes down - all altcoins go down. If it goes up - all altcoins go up as they are tied to BTC's price.

The post 2013 period makes this question a little muddier than it should be. In 2015/16 alts were on incredible runs while Bitcoin effectively did zilch.

Because of that it's hard to say there's a definitive link. Obviously the monster Bitcoin pump last year trickled down into everything else, but from here Bitcoin may take some rest and alts may pump again.

I can't imagine traders are going to sit back and let nothing happen. The appetite for action is there and it may transfer to alts for a bit.

On top of that there's a ton of coins that are still ridiculously overvalued and absolutely worthless but I'm no longer sure whether anyone cares about that any more.

With more direct dollar pairings and plenty of people who've never touched BTC I can imagine the link getting weaker but they're both subject to the same overall sentiment.

Summary - I ain't got a clue no more.

i agree with you bro  after a bit of thinking and reviewing some old chart in CMC  i think  btc wont just pop up from down trend to up trend so quickly  we may see a side trend for a bit of time  and  that mean stable price of btc   ..and like you said its no fun to  just see btc doing nothing xd so traders and investors will search for new alt coins  that may give some profit

and  btw  yes  no one have a clue tbh  lot of people publish charts on trading view  but most of them are just expressing what they wish to happen on the chart and using the TA tools subjectively and not objectively

well better just watch and see what will happen  after all i can afford to lose my asset so no harm
I think you are right and that it may take longer then people think before the market rises again. Just make sure you can lose what you have and you can easily wait this out.

hi everyone   while everyone is talking about btc and it future i have another concern + the btc one   so i kept it a little optimist for  what if btc will pump again ( which is obvious

will happen soon or later )  how my alt coin portfolio will do ?

some ppl say that when btc is up  all the market is up

other say when btc is bullish the other coins dump

so am a bit confused and i think its better to ask this question early and prepare for it before it come

so to resume

what is the relation  between btc and other  alts  ( idk if eth is also affected like the other alt or there is small effect on him by btc )  ?

and  should i transfer my portfollio from alt coin to btc and eth now   or just wait till market get better  ?  in other meaning  which may bullish more  alts or btc/ eth  ?

and thank you
All altcoins are Electronic Currencies. It is cost effecient. Bitcoin and other altcoins are all relevant to the modern day society that we live in. With the advance technology we must make use of it buy adding the use of cryptocurrencies which is faster, safer and more economical than of the bank to bank transactions.

Basically Bitcoin is the Basis of all other cryptos available in the market. All altcoins are pattented to the algorithmic design of Bitcoin. Only bitcoin is more safer and trusted by the investors because it uses the block chain technology.

bitcoin and Altcoin are highly relation, bitcoin is the parent of all types of altcoin and altcoin this is an alternative way to get bitcoin. for example, you can see the market, there you will see motion graph bitcoin and also altcoin. if bitcoin rises or falls, altcoin will also follow the movement of bitcoin.

I see it exactly as you say and it is a fact. Yesterday and today I don't see any significant change in bitcoin prices, bitcoin remains at the same price range is $ 6,840. But look the price of Ethereum now, two days ago it cost about $ 367 and now $ 413 with this existence of a change I assume that any occurrence of decline or increase not always followed by other coins everything depends on the buying power of the community.

Going back into the past on where we can really make presumptions basing on bitcoins and altcoins price. Sometimes they do go with the same trend and sometimes they do go on opposite ways which we can really say that theres no specific or strong basis if we do rely into this informations. They arent accurate yet this is really a very volatile market. We might able to see same trend or opposite trend it all depends on the market supply and demand conditions.
It is impossible to explain everything by supply and demand. That's not so. Previously, many altcoins showed the opposite behavior to bitcoin. This was because capital flowed from bitcoin to altcoins. Now we see quite another. Capital left the cryptocurrency, without exception. This has reduced the capitalization of cryptocurrency but all coins have their owners. I think someone bought a lot of coins but at low prices.

This is a complicated explanation.
Are you saying that Alternative coins could not exists without Bitcoin?
I thought that all coins are moving in one direction at a given time - when Bitcoin goes down or up - all the other will follow.

Of course altcoin will not 'exist' if Bitcoin is not exist.
do you know the meaning behind 'Alternative' ? it means it was created to support the subject.
and the subject is Bitcoin itself.
if Bitcoin is not exist, how come alternative coin exist ?
do you understand what i am talking about bro ?

and the second one about price,
i believe you were not here a few years ago, right ? because you did not know how the money flows.
right now everything will move according to Bitcoin because everything is on oversold mode.
logically speaking, from where the money comes if everything is moving upward ?
crypto cycle :

Money comes from Bitcoin > profit from the movement, the whales moving it to Altcoin (Tier 1 Altcoin) > profit, moving it to Altcoin (Tier 2 Altcoin) > moves back to Bitcoin

but sometimes we will see a different action.
it can be happens due to market sentiment and demand.
there are a lot of factors that can determine the price,so do not fall for it and always do your own research

Bitcoin is the bases of all cryptocurrencies. With the invention of bitcoin technology it pave the way to creating new version of altcoins in the market. This cryptocurrencies though has not over powered it's original basis. In value, bitcoin is always the top one. In terms of technology bitcoin's block chain is safer and secured upon all others. So far nothing can surpass the bitcoin in the market, speculators say that a new crypto will rise above all others over powering bitcoin soon but I do not think this will happen any time soon.

Bitcoin will always marks the value of other altcoins. So if bitcoin's price will drop in the market so are all the price value of all the altcoins in the market.

So this means to say that the performance of bitcoin is very crucial in determining the prices of other cryptocurrencies.

Well it's not entirely like that since we saw  last december that alts were mooning as well along with btc. When btc is plunging, then most of the time it takes alts with it and the entire market bleeds. I guess that's because alts still base their value in btc.

You do not have to understand it because you will see it directly in the future.
Both of them are correct,
we saw it many times before in our cryptosphere,a few months ago when Bitcoin got his pump.
everything was red and only Bitcoin moved up.
why ? Money.
when Bitcoin pumps, everything will flow to Bitcoin that is why altcoin dump.
and when Bitcoin dumps, everything will flow to Altcoin.
but in some cases, you will see both of them get pump.it only happens if everything is oversold.

bear it in your mind, altcoin is an alternative tool.
and its main purpose is to gain or earn Bitcoin, that is why they're called Alternative Coin
This is a complicated explanation.

The relation between both is crypto currencies but there is no relation between the price of bitcoin and the other crypto currencies directly but as you said the price is moving according to the bitcoin price movement. But there is no need to happen this always.Altcoins can give better returns than bitcoin in short term but not altcoin will do this so the decision is yours whether buy altcoin or bitcoin.
