Many types of coin development do not need ICO. As the NANO has developed thanks to the airdrop form for the participants and they let people decide the price for it while looking for the traders. You see there are still many other examples showing that ICO is not the only development model.
I have seen many business operate without offering a ICO, I personally think the business is more legitimate if they don't offer one.

You may go for running a local exchange for your countryman as a trouble free crypto exchange for world wide people. I am not aware of where you are from but this is the business being missing out in entire crypto space and also this will work as a very good promotion for bitcoin among new people. I think the most often done is investing in crypto or trading. with trading we must have the skills to analyze the market so that we get profits, while investing, we hold coins for a long time

You can make a website and make a review about ICOs or new project. Beside that, if you have trading skill, you can make analysis and prediction about market movement.
You can make a youtube crypto channel and offer advice and news on the market. Evnetually if you get big enough with enough subscribers you will able to monetize your channel and maybe get some paid promotions. If that doesn't suit you then open your own crypto exchange. However this route will require a decent amount of starting capital if you want to succeed.
If you want an option instead of investing in ICO, you can earn profits from being a trader. Since you have mentioned that you are good at statistics, that skill of yours would be an advantage in trading with technical analysis. Trading business it needs statistics, fundamental and good in an analysis in timing, both of these are really good to start if you have. If you do plan to have a website then you can create either a blog one but i don't see it would be much effective on this current condition specially it is already somehow saturated.I still love crypto and I want to work on this sector.

If you do have the money then better be an investor where purchasing coins while still its cheap. Trading and simply keep holding it will already give you the tendency on profiting. If you do really

ico is not the sole criteria for any business to work,you can continue to develop project and get hired by major IT firm as big giant are positively looking forward towards crypto and blockchain so there is good chance to get it and as blockchain is new so you can get good hold and develop multiple application which can further develop revenue.

There are other ways to ensure your coin is a success without going through an ICO process. Take a look at DeepOnion which done it's distribution via an airdrop campaign. Arguably better than many ICO campaigns that failed last year
You can make any business without using the ICO model to raise funds. You even seem confusing what is the purpose of ICOs. It's for raising funds like the IPOs. If you don't need money to start your crypto business you don't need ICO.
