My advice is only on the local exchange/local bitcoin to buy bitcoin with mud and even safe. You only need to find local exchange/local bitcoin in your country, if you have found it you will find step by step to buy bitcoin.

Coinbase would be the the first I and other people will suggest since you don't need to verify your identity like other exchange require KYC for their new members....

All the major exchanges will do, i think Coinbase stands tall, bittrex, poloneix among others but if you also want to buy from the black market you can use local bitcoins and have people meet you  or if you can get an escrow then you exchange with them.

The easiest and most reliable way fore me to buy Bitcoin fast is Coinebase. I use them all of the time and I haven't had any issues with them thus far. They're actually the most popular exchange in this manner:

"Coinbase is the world’s most popular way to buy and sell bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin."

You can try cex.io and or at gdox.com
The first one I know and you can buy bitcoin through your bank account or from your VISA card.

I recommend you to use localbitcoins. I have been using their service for a long time now and never faced any issue. If you want to buy bitcoin using fiat, localbitcoins is the best you can get. They are not directly providing any exchange service, instead they are providing a platform for the traders to facilitate their trade with a free escrow service. I can't remember how many times I have used their service, but every single time, my trade went on smoothly without any complaint. Also the rates are very competitive compared to any corporate companies like Zebpay or Coinbase.

I second this and I also use it. It's great and works so well and fast. There is a 90minute trading window so it can't take longer then that. It has escrow protection and you can rate sellers and buyers just like on eBay so you can get a good reputation and have people trust you and get more trades. There are also various different traders so there is always someone online. You can even trade for cash.

I buy btc instantly through coinbase.com with my credit card.
I can only seem to get max $1k a week with everything verified. I think that's the max in Canada, but the US should be higher

You might want to check out coinmama.com, I've used them a few times in a pinch. They were pretty fast and accept Credit Cards. They do have high fee's, but like I said they were fast. You can check out localbitcoins like others have mentioned, but usually their prices are crazy.

If you verify your account on any of the top exchanges, you could buy with the limit that you have in mind, and the speed of receiving your Bitcoin is as fast as filling your order and clicking on buy, you'd need to have your cash in your balance to do that. when you buy 0.2 for $3500 you'll receive 0.2 no matter what, exact time depends on miners.

Localbitcoin will be the next best choice. But the gap in the buy and sell is so far away so you might want to get ready of how low amount of bitcoin they will give you for a lot of money.
They get their profits there. They exclude the profit from the bitcoin growth.
Check it out to make sure, there are also cheap sellers which are not greedy with the fees.

I have bitcoin but any bitcoin that i got came from site that pay out in bitcoin.  Thus i never bought a bitcoin from a site like coinbase or gemini.

Can someone tell me where is the best place to buy bitcoin for someone who has american bank accounts?  Also what would be my limits?  Could i buy around 3k or 5k or more or limits start out low?  Gemini i believe you could send them a bank wire for any amount and then use that to buy btc... is that correct?

Also i assume on coinbase even with high buying limits, do you get your btc instantly or not?  So if you buy 5k worth of btc, when do you get the btc?  At what rate do you get it at?  When you buy it or when they send it?  I assume best way would be either send a wire to coinbase or gdax?  Also im confused a bit with coinbase.  But you could buy with ach transfer?  But doing that you dont get btc instantly and have to wait till your ACH shows up to them?  Thus best way is send a wire?  Any other options?  I would want the option buy btc immediately and get it immediately.
Because I am a Chinese, I can easily buy cryptocurrency in my country OKEX and huobipro.
Yes, I am also a Chinese. It is very convenient for these two platforms to purchase cryptocurrency.

Coinbase is one of the most trusted and widely used platform. It's beginner friendly too. Unless you decide to trade, it is enough to enter in coinbase. But should you decide to trade, i will recommend binance and bittrex.
