In my case, at first my family is skeptical when I opened up about investing in bitcoin but when they saw that i’m really interested and when I explained it to them what it is exactly then they came to realize that it’s a good investment and they are very supportive to me now in investing in crypto and my sibling is also planning to invest too. I think it is more of educating your family member about crypto in a simple manner.

Hello everyone, good morning, yesterday I had a conversation with my family about crypto(BTC if we being specific).

Im HODL for a long time now, and really believe that in the end crypto actually do fly to do moon( More about Moon:)

my family thinks its a bullshit, and think that im wasting my time and money. I try to explain it countless of times and it seems that is simply imposable for to them to understand

So, im just curious what your family/friends think about it?

My father thinks it's just a waste of time and I need to find a company job even though my salary is higher doing freelance jobs on the internet
than what I will get if I take company. my sister on the other hand. my sister is the one who introduced me to bitcoin and this forum. and the reason
why I became a freelancer and a bitcoin enthusiast.

Think that by now you should realise that anything new, especially anything that completely turns everything old onto its head, anything that even will need a lot of thought and understanding (That 9 pages of Bitcoin white paper really needs digesting especially for non-English speakers)... best not to just dump on people in one go.

I haven't in the past few years talked to anyone directly about Bitcoin. When asked, I do say a little, more as is asked, but never volunteering information.

My standard line to my family, who ask a lot about what I do with my freelancing now? Financial technology.

And it's not... entirely wrong.

What does decentralised finance mean to anyone anyway? Or trustless money?

For me, at the first time that I tell them, they ask if it's safe? Because they said that they read some article saying bitcoin is illegal. But after explaining to them what is crypto and telling that I'm with crypto and making this as my part-time job they support me at this because it gives me extra cash and my another source of income. Also, helping my parents to lessen their financial problems. They also get interested in crypto because why don't you give shoot if you can earn money in a good way right? Smiley

Same here, man. Actually, it's just my parents who think that it's not kinda real (but my two brothers, esp my youngest brother, is very supportive.) They usually tell me, whenever they see me on the phone posting in this forum, that I'm just wasting my time here and should just be focusing on other important things. Well, I don't expect them to accept this, though. If they don't want to believe or support me doing this, it's totally fine with me. They're still my parents. And one thing's for sure: I will share with them the fruits of my labor here. Smiley

A part of my family plays the socially acknowledged lottery regularly and they didn't like the Bitcoin and let me feel it. But after I told them it was like gambling to get rich with a much higher chance than with the lottery, they finally accepted it.

For the most part, my family has been supportive, outside of one cousin who sat me down and explained to be how Bitcoin was a dangerous ponzi and that I should listen to the founder of the bank he works for and dump all my crypto and move into safer investments, like strip malls.

Gambling.

Fortunately none of them claim gambling is a sin.
Then it would be a holy gambling lol, so as I thought also when bitcoin was first introduced to me and my brothers, we all thought that it was another ponzi scheme, but I think the issue usually starts from the person introducing the system of bitcoin, they usually lay emphasis on the huge reward of it than to lay emphasis on its utility, they were made to first of all make them understand it as a digital currency as a whole, but one that usually come with rewards.

How would some imagine that a bitcoin that was less than $1 had turned to over $11k now and they would not see it as a scam or a Ponzi scheme, of courts they will see it, but it is now our duty to let them know that it is not a Ponzi scheme but a payment system that has been created to provide decentralization to its users.

They don't really care about it and have not invested a single penny since they prefer FIAT, but they do know what it is thanks to me and its surge in popularity with time. Its simply their opinion and I respect it.

I don't go out of my way to make them use crypto since that isn't the correct route. They will probably invest in BTC once adoption rates grow and once the volatility factor drops with time though.

As for my family, they understand me well and support. Moreover, recently they all started to think about joining the crypto market. Although they are still hesitating whether to do it or not, this is the best evidence of one thing: Bitcoin will be accepted everywhere finally.
We do not have to wait for too long until all understand that it is a perfect currency.

I was once informed a family member about me planning to invest in crypto but was told not to because they thinks it’s some sort of a scam and that i’m wasting my time investing in it and that was when I regretted not investing that time because I missed the bull run but few years after a coworker introduced me to this forum and that it made be understand crypto even more and went on to invest and now I don’t have any regrets that I invested in crypto and I still didn’t informed my parents about it because they aren’t open minded about crypto, so better to keep it to myself.

i didnt explain cryptos  to them but they were the ones that approach  me and ask me if what im doing  .

i explain that im trading and doing crypto activities . the good part is that they are easily believe and convinced on what im saying and infact they also want to learn because they also want to earn just like me   . take not that my parents arent techy   .  you just only need to explain cryptos in a simplified way so that they wont be confused

All my family knew is I'm working online and not engage in any cryptocurrency trading but some of them including some of my relatives knew about the cryptocurrencies. Some of them believes that virtual currencies are scam and they got their information from the news where scammers are being arrested by the authorities.

It's part of the challenge to be judge negatively when you are focusing on something new that is not fully accepted by the government.
We are in the early stage of crypto where regulation is not yet strong and adoption is low, it's just like you are convincing them with something that will be valuable in the future but they are too negative to accept changes, don't worry mate, you are doing right, you are just sharing the opportunity, so if they won't believe, it's only their loss not yours.

I'm still trying explain to them that cryptocurrencies are not scam and they are use only by the scammers to steal money from their victims.

You don't have to do it all the time, once you explain to them, that's already enough, if they are open minded, they can do their own results.
Don't waste too much time, let them come to you and ask you.

The only way to make them believe you this is not a waste of money is to show them the money you have made with crypto. I was in the same situation a while ago, we argued a lot until i showed them some profit. They want to protect you probably which is a good thing, however showing them this is something good for you might help them understand.

Gladly, I don't have to argue or debate with them because my parents don't ask too much about cryptocurrency. All they know is I am trying to work online as before I did in the past, but I always explain what and how I work. Sometimes I show them how much money I can make from crypto currency, and I buy them some product to make them feel that I don't waste my time in front of a computer. They now support me to work in cryptocurrency and thanks to God, and I can help their finance too, although not much.

Before, my family and relatives thinks it is also a bullshit, but as time goes by they keep silent on what I'm doing.  it is because even I don't have a  regular job, I can still able to help them in terms of financials. Where my profit was more bigger than to their own working company.
And now my relatives and family knows that what I did now was really helpful to me and its not a waste of time either.

My mom thinks crypto is scam even when I have profit  Huh
Keep looking for profits in crypto over time your mother will understand about it or try to explain a little about crypto because my family previously thought that crypto was a suspicious and scam investment. And so far after I always get income in the form of Bitcoin they support me.
actually the best way to explain and convince someone is to use show off. you're right, keep making a profit dude, buy what you want using the profits in crypto and show your mom what you have got, usually they will change their perspective after they see it, because I've tried it Smiley
