Somehow the attitude on the Namecoin forum is not as casual as it is here. Also a lot of the technical discussions now take place on github in a very factual way. Maybe we should embrace drama some more. Or hire dogecoin marketing guys? So wow!

Here's an idea: is it possible to make .bit domains work without having to install an additional plug-in? That seems to be the major drawback to NMC's purpose... which is worthy of praise, but not entirely practical.
There are but they have other disadvantages. We should be able to release new and comfortable ways of resolving .bit soonish.

Yeap, but the activity there is pretty limited.
Some subforums have not had new posts since over a months.
So, the worries of OP are eligible.

t's simply that the lack of discussion about Namecoin is worrying me.
Discussion on Namecoin development goes on in the namecoin forums.

The one thing I love about Namecoin is the fact that you can get a .bit domain, which I got to say that is pretty cool  Cool

I wonder if there are more plans for NMC to become more adaptable, or is this the end of the road? Somehow the price stays up, but that happens with a lot of coins who's popularity and usefulness have seemingly waned.

There is a lot of stuff planned:
https://github.com/namecoin/meta/blob/master/roadmap.md

We need help with it, though.  Wink

See the subject.

I taught Namecoin could be somewhat viable, but since the merged mining, there's not a lot of news on that currency. What's happening? Where are you? This sub-forum is almost becoming the Litecoin forum.

I have NOTHING against Litecoin, but it's simply that the lack of discussion about Namecoin is worrying me. A currency is for trade, and you can't trade if you don't talk. Where is the discussion?
Namecoin has a lot of potential and need a lot of work, so a dedicated website is required.
So, most discussions about namecoin are on the namecoin website, and this is a problem indeed, a problem of visibility.
I try to announce important things here, but I can't do more (when do I code ?) :p

If some people interested by namecoin want to help with they way communication is done, they are welcome Smiley

There are still a lot of things to improve in namecoin, and the more people give their opinion on those subjects, the more namecoin will evolve.

Just after writing that, I'm realizing (thanks :p) that all those subjects are spread on the forum and important one are not visible enough Smiley
So, here a list to correct this problem :

Most recent/important subjects that need comments or coding :
- default transactions fees,
- cost of a new name or a renewal
- develop the Alias system (1, 2, 3)
- finalize the domain specification

- new namecoin website (http://namecoin.info/)
- rebase on latest bitcoin or libbitcoin
- build new binaries for windows and mac (and this)

No more apology ! Smiley
Any more updates?

Maybe it would be useful to build in a "sale price" mechanism with automatic purchase, so people can set their price and others can buy domains at the price set by the seller  in namecoins, enabling sellers to remain anonymous and causing namecoins to have to be of significant value in order for selling prices of valuable domains to be able to be expressed in namecoins as some number of namecoins that does not exceed the number of namecoins that exist, or even that ever will exist.

That way the bounty will be spread around, as in order to offer a huge amount of wealth for a domain but do so in the form of namecoins it will be necessary for namecoins to be quite valuable, which will "float all boats" as the saying goes...

I don't think domains currently are sold for that high amounts of money.

2btc ~ 450nmc for a two letter domain: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/daily-auction-300-two-letter-bit-domains-namecoin-66212

[...]

Once again mass centralization of all the good domain names...makes namecoin pointless for wide spread adoption. You may as well consider it the namecoin clubhouse because you guys are the only ones who will own domain names that have any value.

Perhaps a restart of namecoin?

Then you might get a better turn out of interest.

At least litecoin had a launch date ...

 Cheesy

are you aware the namecoin developers went to great lengths to prevent squatting? at the beginning domain prices were quite high. It stopped me from squatting early on.

Now it is merely about being able to register "names" (as opposed to domains) for as cheap as possible.

Everything is on the namecoin forum: http://dot-bit.org/forum/index.php

Name coin  is vulnerable under the attack from the bitcoiners who hate name coin
with merged mining it is pretty safe from 51% attacks. there are some important updates that need to be done, though.

A currency is for trade, and you can't trade if you don't talk. Where is the discussion?
Namecoin is not a currency though. It is a DNS system using Bitcoin's blockchain.
Namecoin is as much a currency as Bitcoin. Can't say it often enough, Namecoin is not a DNS system. Namecoin is a generic name/value storage system. dot-bit is just the first project based on Namecoin.

There is no motivation to make it easier to use because they need to register all the domains and squat on them first.
naa, we have squatted enough already  Tongue

Actually there are a couple of things going on lately:

* Very easy .bit browsing via foxyproxy or dns-suffix or website proxy: http://dot-bit.org/How_To_Browse_Bit_Domains
* Version 3.5 with a couple of improvements (performance, sendtoname)
* NMControl: http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=525
* Extra Namecoin Website
* ...?
