Hello everyone!

I'm fairly new to cryptocurrency but i've invested in bitcoins years ago but never understood it. Pretty much friend told me to buy it so I did lol.

Anyway, I want to learn about cryptocurrency how they work and what its about etc. Would this be a good idea;

Learn blockchain - learn cryptocurrencies one by one like bitcoin - research how to trade using graphs and other info.

I want to make profit and learn this as much as possible.

What would you recommend?

Thank you!  Kiss

Please watch attached video which will certainly give you good knowledge about crypto/Block chain  and its working mechanism. For trading please don't jump in market unless you learn some knowledge/basic skills of Technical Indicators to make entry and exit at right time. Always remember learning is necessary to make earning.

Ok i suggest you to read books about learning crypto or the more interesting ways are Cryptocurrency Trading Courses that are being provided every year! Heres a list of some of them:
When someone says they want to learn crypto-currency, it's should not be synonymous to them saying they want to learn trading, besides you can know trading even before knowing crypto-currency and still use that knowledge and experience to be trade Crypto-currency, and also not be good with what crypto-currency is.
Reading is like a seed that bears the fruit called knowledge, but experience is the fertile land that hastens or destroy the fruit, I started to know crypto-currency more by getting involved and not only by reading.

Upon learning crypto, you should first find the field or platform you are going to be involved with. It can be on investment, holding, trading or gambling or all of it. You can also learn through experience or through exploring the forum but you can try reading news and other sites that offers legitimate information about crypto. Someone can also ease the struggle as they give you knowledge and advices with regards to the things you might face in crypto. Focus first on the description and use of crypto in the real world and follow it up with the ways on how you can earn or diversify your money in this platform.

How do you want to earn crypto? Investment? Creating your own coin?
There are various ways to earn one and there's a sticky thread here in B&H board.
About the programming part, unless that you alone, will create your own coin or you're gonna work for someone to create their coins and that's one of the ways to earn crypto.
You don't need to learn blockchain programming if that isn't your cup of tea. You could just freelance with your own skills here in Services board and earn crypto, most likely to be Bitcoin payment.

I don't think the answer to this question is too difficult  Cheesy
The best way to learn something is through your own experience, through the method of trial and error.
Different manuals and articles can help to some extent but we are all different and the suggested strategies may not suit our habits or skills.
In doing so, you should constantly follow the news because things in the crypto industry are changing very quickly.

It depends on your preferences, some people wants to learn by watching video and some people seek information by reading.

I'm more on visualization that's why i learned crypto in watching Youtube videos and some documentaries regarding it.

There are plenty of ways to learn crypto.

Read books, watch online tutorials, and interact on social sites or even forum like this one. Learning is different from earning. Before you jump to any investment it is wise to learn first all necessary things you need to be familiar with. Investing is risky especially on trading so better to know your things first. Losing on trading is inevitable if you don't know the basics so be equipped before you bought any tokens your friend told you so.

As you can see there is extensive documentation ... but do not leave everything to theory the best way to learn crypto is to take practice and theory at the same pace.

Learning about crypto is more like taking up a course to study in a higher institute. There are numerous academies online who offer tutorials and also guide newbies on how to go about investing in crypto currency. If you choose to study online enough discipline is required because diverse distraction might pop up to sway your attention into other things thereby giving longer time frame to complete your classes within a shorter period of time. But the fun of it is you studing at your own pace

Let me just say this here, a general rule in business is "never invest in a business you don't understand" . That's a recipe for disaster. But in your case OP things turned out pretty well for you. But also it could have easily been the opposite.
The worse you can possibly do to yourself is to employ the trail and error method, that's the easiest and quickest way to lose your money. Its sure is exhilarating to make some good cash off an investment. Its good that you're interested in learning. That's going to help you a lot, don't expect quick returns or things to be easy. The life of a crypto trader is murky and long but we get by.

I would suggest earn.com where you can earn while you learn.

this site is own by Coinbase Smiley
But earning there is limited on its geographical users. Some countries are not allowed to join on it but I agree that it's a good website that gives reward while you learn.
Coinmarketcap has the same feature but I haven't seen the requirements of it if they're asking for a KYC or it's just a simple registration that's needed.

In fact, the crypto has several departments and very few people understand all areas of it, for example there is the technical field and there is trading and each of them branches more also, if you want to understand the technical field you need to be a programmer or have knowledge / understanding of how decentralization works and the like, I do not deny the difficulty of this technique. I myself do not understand how it works, but I know that this can happen programmatically. In summary, the best way to learn crypto is to search, you have to search for the specific thing that you do not understand, not crypto in general because of what I mentioned earlier.

Do I have to learn to code then Tongue?

If you are not a programmer then why do you want to know how Bitcoin technically works?

- You need at least a simple wall of how the programming works, at least.

Firstly, Alot of reading has to be done then you also have to spend more time on the forum as there is always something new to learn from here.

If you like you can make use of YouTube where people have tried to explain what's there to know in the world of crypto, your  other option is to take a crypto course from platforms like bitdegree, udemy, coursera and many more.

Rule 1: Do your own research. Never buy a coin just because someone said so.. Read all you can about the coin and find good reasons why you should buy or not. No one can accurately predict the crypto market 100&. Most are speculations derived from their own analysis. Look at this way, you brought because your friend said so. What happens when things go south and the market dumps. I imagine it will devastating for you, you will probably Blane your friend for your loss because then you will realize the whole idea wasn't really your decision in the first place. On the brighter side, since you bought years ago you're already in profits and having a swell time

I'm fairly new to cryptocurrency but i've invested in bitcoins years ago but never understood it. Pretty much friend told me to buy it so I did lol.
Actually, this is very risky if you invested in crypto-based on only following your friends without learning at first. however, fortunately, you invested in Bitcoin, so it may be a saver. If you are new to crypto, never only follow your friends to buy certain coins, moreover new coins. Additionally, you must be also very careful when going to invest your money into crypto. In this case, nowadays there are many scams that offer very interesting investments with high profits in crypto, and it will never work because it is a scam. Watch out for this.

And about how to learn about cryptocurrency, I personally also felt the same with you when first introduced to cryptocurrency. I was really confused about where I should start. However, at that time, I started in this forum and then learn about the basic thing of crypto, that is about Bitcoin and the differences with the altcoins.
After that, what we are going to learn is better to follow what we are going to do. At that time, I wanted to focus on joining the projects and programs in this forum so I decided to read more posts and threads in this forum, in most sections.
However, if your goal is for trading, I think that besides learning about Bitcoin and altcoins, crowdfunding, and basic things about crypto, you can learn about the type of trading, mechanism, knowing about exchanges, wallets, types of tokens or coins, and much more basic knowledge.

And some sources that are very helpful for me are likely:
- This forum
- Binance Academy

I know that there are so many sites and also YouTube channels that provide completed information about cryptocurrency, but those two are my favorites.

Most people suggested books and written content, so I am going to suggest another approach. If you are just starting out, it might be easier for you to watch YouTube videos to understand the basics, and then move on from there to more complex topics.

Take a look at the content created by these two channels and see if that is something you would be interested in:

If you have invested in bitcoin, as you write closer to the near the end of 2019, you should undoubtedly have made a profit. I will never believe that an investor is not interested in what is happening with his money. What happened to your bitcoins? Have you sold them, lost them, or are you still keeping them?
Based on your first attitude, whether it was victory or defeat, advice can be given. If there is a good amount, then learn how to properly store bitcoin, or maybe you are interested in trading. If there is already nothing, but the desire to achieve results remains, start from scratch, read the forum, books, and do not believe in the quick earnings that are offered here and there today. There is no good profit without good knowledge.

i just kept the bitcoins on binance like a noob haha until few months ago i moved it to ledger wallet.

I guess that by creating this thread after these years, you've probably sold them. Otherwise, you'd have been interested on understanding it earlier.

What would you recommend?
It depends on what exactly you want to learn. If you're interested in the way the crypto-market works, then you should read books about trading. Many of them are free, but there are also some masterpieces on amazon.

If you want to understand the technical background of bitcoin, then I couldn't suggest you a better website than: Learnmeabitcoin.com. It explains it perfectly, better than any other site. Needless to say that YouTube videos aren't helpful at all.

Your last step about trading is not really related to crypto. You can learn them separately, in fact, most people who trade probably don't understand a thing about the blockchain/coins they're trading with, since profits are what they're looking for. If in the long run you plan on doing some trading and seek profits, maybe you don't really have to learn crypto deeply, just the basic about a wallet, how to send crypto, how to set fees, what is non-custodial/custodial wallet, how to protect your seed/private key, etc.

That being said, mastering trading is a bit tricky and requires a lot of time. In a bull run like this you'll probably end up in profits as long as you hold until the peak, but in the bear market, you'll definitely need to rely on your skills.

I think there are three things to learn crypto

  • Read books
  • Research
  • Application/Experience]
This three things listed by @akirasendo17 is a good one but you also have to know OP the most common scams that is permeating the bitcoin community and how to avoid them, most newbies are the target of this people so it is better if you know something about it to reduce the possible victims of this scams.

Welcome to the club Smiley Step one is probably to try and install Bitcoin core on your PC if you can. It's quite a big download so it might be a hassle but it gets you familiar with how the basic components work. You're right to focus on Bitcoin first because there is lots to learn - start with the best security practices, especially if you will decide to hold funds outside of an exchange. I would say it is ok to get a basic idea of how mining works, but it won't be super critical to most people as it is difficult to do profitably now. One thing you really need to learn is transaction fees and how to pay the lowest amounts - using different wallet types can literally make the difference between spending $50 to move $500, or spending $5 to move the same amount (see: bech32), this can save you a fortune in the long run. Bitcoin forks will make interesting reading as more of a curiosity than anything else. Personally, I'd stay away from trying to make money trading - you can lose a lot to learn nothing, see if you can create any products or services to raise BTC instead.

If you want to make a profit, my suggestion you need to learn to trade because you will have the opportunity to make a profit as in the crypto market, you will have so many coins that can give you the chance to make money.
But before you can make a profit, you need to spend some time learning many lessons available on the internet, including learning analysis, indicators, and how to determine the time to enter the market.
Trading can be your way to make a profit, but you do not need to follow other people to buy the coin because you need to research yourself.
Besides that, if you can analyze the coin, you can improve your trading skills and select the right coin to make a profit.

You can learn to the cryptocurrency if you tried to motivate yourself first it's hard to deal with a thing that you didn't like or too much curious about that thing by that you can now have an idea where to start with. I think if you are planning with bitcoin why not start what bitcoin is there are websites, articles, books, and much more telling about bitcoin. Also, you can check videos if you are not a fan of reading there are a lot of educational videos about cryptocurrency. Your last option is the experience on your own, learning through readying and watching is not enough the last part is to try it on yourself you cant learn anything just reading unless you experience it.

Learn blockchain - learn cryptocurrencies one by one like bitcoin - research how to trade using graphs and other info.

Blockchain is not a fundamental technology, it's more of a programming pattern derived from Bitcoin.

Learning cryptocurrencies one by one is a horrible waste of time, there's so many of them and 99.9% are garbage. Just learn how Bitcoin works, and then research a bit about alternative network design choices like PoS and masternodes, just to be informed.

Technical analysis is not an objectively the best way to trade, some even say it's akin to pseudoscience. Simply buying and hodling Bitcoin is one of the most effective strategies to make profit.

I think there are three things to learn crypto

  • Read books
  • Research
  • Application/Experience]
Three things are the ways for you to learn them
Read books about cryptocurrency, how they work, what is the function of every coin how it process
Making a research about a certain coin, through articles and news,
and to experience it like if you are into trading, or through an application where a certain coin helps and work through the blockchain
there are lots of ways but I think this three are very important as a start.

Just make sure you do not rush, take one step at a time in learning it. I was a novice in 2019, but better now. These are what I did:

Learn about:
  • Bitcoin and crypto wallet
  • ICO and IEO
  • Exchanges
  • Crypto scam
  • Mining

You will need to read crypto news daily.

You can use Coinmarketcap or Coingecko to know about the existing cryptocurrencies. If you see over 7000 cryptocurrencies existing, it will surprise you, and know you can not know everything, but knowing only the good ones.

You need to also learn from this forum, it will really help you.
