I originally was an early adopter and bought 2000 bitcoins at $2 a piece and I sold it at $12 as I didnt see it as a viable payment option as nowhere it could be used. I thought it was a good profit. Afterwards I also shortly owned 2k bitcoins at 4 and sold it at 8. Again a lofty profit as I thought.
But on the other hand many of my bitcoin owning friends have lost all their coins with the downfall of mtgox where i was also trading on.... if you look with this in perspective I feel okay.
recently i bought 20k for bitcoins at 3k and sold them at 6k. if i would have kept them only longer again..........
Wow you got in even earlier than me, I got it when you sold at $12, and lost all 4 through a chargeback scam on Ebay.
I also didn't see it going anywhere. All these other people saying they wish they knew about it back then are doing it with hindsight.
I guarantee most of them wouldn't have bought many back then. The rumour Bitcoin MIGHT hit $100 one day was seen as a pipe dream.
And yes that's before we even get to the MTGOX crash, whereby most of them would have lost their coins anyway, and EVEN if they survived that most would have sold for $1000 way before it got to $15000.
Now I tend to think that even if I had mined a few (hundred? thousand?) bitcoins back then when it was so easy (because I am not so sure that there was a way to actually buy bitcoins back then, there were no exchanges in those days, but I may be wrong here...) probably without the investment of money I would have forgotten all about them and would have dumped them all together with old disks and forgotten passwords and never be able to retrieve them again. So many people did that!
Looking from that perspective, maybe it is better I never had bitcoins in those very early days. Knowing, that there are millions of dollars not accessible to me would be sooooo painfull!
Exactly. I know for a fact if I had 10,000 I would have sold them off when it reached say $100 or $300, as would 99% of people.
Also we could have lost them on MTGOX or had our wallets hacked or just lost the passwords.
And that pain would kill me more now than not having them in the first place!!! There was a guy who threw away a hard drive with 1,500 BTC on it into a landfil! They didn't mean anything much back then and we ALL would have sold them cheap.
The only people who have a lot today had hundreds of thousands and probably only kept back 1000 today.
