Will a 6990 actually get 600-700ish Mhash/sec (as I have read)?

I understand that something like the 5770 is the "most bang for your buck", but like I said, "Free Money". Wink

I am just weighing the options. I am thinking about doing something kind of NUTBALL here, as a project... I don't pay for the power (work does that), so I was thinking about building an MSI BIG BANG Marshall, with 8 monsters in it. If 1x 6990 would yield 700 Mhash/sec, then that's the route I want to go! Could you imagine 8 of those mofo's burning it up?? ;P

Cheers All!

I had used poclbm before but had maxed out at ~340 across different settings.  I think it's just an issue of being able to OC it beyond its limits, which I want to do but haven't figured out how.

I don't think I've set up guiminer to work with poclbm.

poclbm seems to have improved since the belief that phoenix was better. I get about 360~370 at stock clock before going up to 410 with a slight overclock to 920/333. With my 5850 clocked at 900/300 I get 360~370Mh. With one slower card, I'm getting just bit more Mhash than 2 of your cards so it might be worth your time/money to switch and test Cheesy

guiminer defaults to poclbm for openCL mining so if you got it installed, you would had poclbm working with it already.

I have 2 HD 6870 and 1 HD 5850 in one BTC rig.  Total power usage is only 480 W, I have a nice gold PSU.

I am currently getting 840 Mhash/s out of them.  I need to mod the bios on the 5850 to OC it more.

I also have a gtx 460 in my normal rig, its its not economical to run it unless I have that computer on anyway.  It gets only 60 Mhash/s and the computer uses 200 W mining and 60~100 W idle.

I am planning on dropping some "free money" on a $!LLY video card...

What is the sickest, sinlge video card right now? I will eventually cross fire it, but not yet. I plan on spending up to $650ish on it (give or take).

From what I see, it looks like the 6990...but I haven't seen any Mhash/s reviews on the crazy eyfinity 6s they have out now...

-=[.:.Please-Advise.:.]=-

Your looking betwen 700 - 800 on the 6990's Which assuming the lowest price is $700 that's just under $1 per m/hash... I have to tell you that's crazy...

A 5770, Cheapest price? $110, tigerdirect. Typical output that i can attest to? 200 m/hash's Which ='s just over $0.50 per m/hash. If you want crazy performance and outstanding bitcoin mining, grab 3 or 4 5770's and do a crossfire build.

I know the newest and greatest is always the fun way, but if your serious about mining it's the least practical.

I agree with BMFX, bitcoin mining is really an all in or all out and if spending sums of money on video cards hoping to make coins doesn't work out then its probably best to buy coins.

4 x 5870, getting ~1550 MHash/s w/ Phoenix miner

Picture of setup, parts list in comments.

Have you tried using the poclbm with guiminer on it? I was trying out the phoenix miner since it was supposedly better. But I end up getting about 3~5% less mhash than the 400~410 from poclbm, no matter how I tweaked phoenix.
