I use Telegram too, I certainly prefer it to other solutions (WA from Meta) but I continue to use everything because many of my friends continue to use WA.
If there are other better solutions, surely yes, but they are little used, so I should have 100 IM, also no thanks.

I am using Telegram, but I do not trust believe that they are really supportive of "free speech" (The Telegram founder is best friends with oppressive state leaders  Roll Eyes)

And you must be very careful because there are so many scammers on TG.

Sometimes people are impersonating your best friends with their pic and bio and using the letter I (capital i) instead of l (lower case L) in their name - looks exactly the same in the Telegram client.

My opinion is always good for telegram. It’s the best instant messaging platform, that allows users to send multimedia text & make voice and vedio calls. I personally use it.

I use Telegram but I don't like it much because we need to input our phone number. That is, to me, a big down factor. However, I use it because it's there were most of my Bitcoiner friends are. I even use Signal which seems a bit better in terms of privacy and/or security but it also forces us to enter a phone number.
I tried Session once because it didn't request a phone number, rather an user ID was assigned to you but I quite because they had a shitcoin backing their business model and I don't want to be part of shitcoins.

There is also Matrix which is similar to Session but no tokens in the background. However, it seems to me not so user-friendly like other apps!

Ok, so I've been reading the Telegram FAQ's, and, of course, everything is perfect, and Telegram is the best thing to ever happen to the Internet. And, of course, I don't trust that kind of marketing BS.
So I'm looking for opinions from actual users, and/or people knowing better than me (doesn't take much), or anybody who feels they can add something.

What interests me is security, privacy, and the absence (hopefully) of all the stuff that has made Mark Zuckerberg "sadly famous" as of late.

So... GO!
I like Telegram but I am considering moving to open chat on the internet computer. I plan on moving to fully decentralized platforms in the future. That includes banking and email too.

I’ve expressed how I feel about Telegram before but all I can do is emphasize to others to be careful because I actually got scammed a while back. On the other hand, it can be a very useful tool and it’s great for chatting with some of my friends so I’m not against it.
I think a lot of these platforms can be used for good or bad so I don’t judge Telegram for what happened to me. I guess I was a little too trusting some years back and I’ve learned my lesson. I know some people get hung up on blaming the platform but for me it’s easier to just take responsibility.
I completely acknowledge that I was probably a bit naïve when I was younger and I needed to vet who I was dealing with better.

Telegram and WhatsAup almost have the same functions. But Telegram can contain more participants in groups. I rarely use this application. But I think it is a secured social media platform.
I think telegram has more features than Whatsapp and can also stay independently which makes it a better app than the data consuming Facebook which is linked to Whatsapp. Telegram's issue is that it lacks a bit of privacy as although the messages are encrypted, they are only encrypted in transit from your device to the telegram's servers.
Telegram can also back up your messages for at least 12 months. I just started using the app but took the liberty of checking.

I'm not sure how secure and privacy-friendly the app really is(I doubt it's as long as it's centralized)... what makes me prefer it than whatapp is that your phone number is not exposed to people, and I actually like its "Folder" feature. I also like that the company was interested in building a decentralized telegram, and cryptocurrency communities tend to prefer it to other alternatives.

I hope the company makes it possible for users to download their data like whatapp do/did. That is a very important feature I think is needed. Users should be allowed to own their data rather than leaving it all in data centers of centralized companies.

Telegram is a good social media platform that is very easy going reliable and safe. Telegram is a place where old contacts can be find even if it is no longer on the device. It is alo a place where pictures and videos can be saved for future use.  Telegram has so many good feature.

Telegram like any other app out there has its pros and cons.
In my opinion, Telegram is as good as WhatsApp, some would argue it's better. The features found on WhatsApp are also found on Telegram. Audio and video calls, group chats. Telegram goes a step further by having a secret conversation feature. I personally do not have a preference as I think Telegram is just as good(maybe better) compared to WhatsApp. You could now via a bot buy and transfer toncoin to users on the app through the app while having the option to only buy bitcoin. The bot seems safe as it has a blue verification tick. These are cool features WhatsApp doesn't have.

Generally we should be careful and skeptical on what we download, clicking on strange links, and our interaction with people on the internet space

Most people I communicate with use Telegram. So it's useful on the basis of network effects. But I fundamentally do not like Telegram or a lot of the nonsense that has been propping up lately like Brazil banning TG or Germany banning groups.

I wish that people would start using apps that had long term legs, for example Element. Unfortunately, people don't get rich by downloading Element the same way they do by investing in Bitcoin so the user acquisition is a bit more difficult.

People may see the light later though if these shitty centralized platforms continue to get shittier.

What I meant is Telegram functionality, and ultimately the honesty (or lack thereof) of the people behind it.
Of course, ultimately,  any social media platform will be as reliable as the people you interact with. What I want to know is if people I DON'T interact with (like Zuckerberg on Facebook, for example) will be covertly taking measures that may be against my interests.
What did you call it, social media, we have different branches of social media, Facebook is a social media, reddit is a social media, telegram is a social media, Whatsapp is a social media, LinkedIn is a social media, hangout is a social media, so having people who is against you is people have as your friends so against your interest is from people you know

It's an interesting platform.

You can make interactive stuff there with bots, it can be useful for communicating with a group of people.

It seems to be very popular with many alts, and also open source projects. Blixt wallet for example has a Telegram group chat where you can talk directly with the main developer. It's things like this that make telegram very useful.

It seems WhatsApp has more features like video call, but Telegram is still okay and has good features too. Telegram accommodate huge number of contacts in Telegram group, in Telegram medias such as pictures can also be saved there. Telegram is security is good not easily hacked.

Perhaps we are not yet aware of the fact that there is no privacy on the internet, or rather not completely protected, you can try to dissuade any attacks by protecting yourself in the best way, but you can never be 100% protected, telegram is a valid alternative to whatsapp, but you must always be very careful about what you share and what you download. The telegram functions and the right settings allow "safe" use

I really like Telegram. It strikes a nice in-between ground for me. It is easy enough to use and I believe it keeps my data safe enough. Definitely better than some popular alternatives out there (looking at you Messenger). I would not use it for super-sensitive conversations, though

It's a terribly centralized service (as many are) and is not the privacy titan they assume themselves to be. They do, however, supply you will a few tools to enhance your privacy. Obviously, these features are not active by default which raises its own concerns.

If you want to chat via encryption, you have to activate secret chat with the person you are messaging in order to generate keys. If you do not activate this, your messages will only have TLS encryption which telegram can readily read. Telegram also gives you the option to connect to a proxy such as a Tor proxy which can rout your messaging traffic over Tor. Again, this is not a default setting so it will require the user to activate.

Overall, it's an okay service. If you use it the way it's supposed to be used, you can achieve a degree of privacy. Anonymity, however, will not be achieved.

I very rarely use Telegram. I know lots of people like it, but here are my biggest complaints...

1) Chats move way too fast once the groups get active. I know things get hectic when you've got 50,000 people all in one chat room. But leaving my computer for 15 minutes and having to scroll back through 200+ messages when I get back is just ridiculous..
2) I don't like the phone number requirement. Assign me a number if you want, but I do much more from the desktop than I do from mobile, and I don't like having to signup to a website using a mobile number..
3) I hate that people can just add me to groups. I'll be offer Telegram for like a month and open it up and suddenly I was added to like 3 groups I don't want to be in.

Those are the main reasons I almost never use Telegram. Kinda sucks because there are lots of crypto-related groups on there!
