i think in the long term that can happen good luck for all ethereum holders but for now the bitcoin brand is dominating the crypto market and that can be for couple more years
I think that Ethereum will be very difficult to fight with BTC. BTC has so many fans. But second place belongs to Ethereum. And even if people say that there are so many platforms similar to the Ethereum. Ether is the most popular.
But then there are also many many coins that are like BTC. BTC has the advantage of being first and that is basically it. ETH offers advantages and was very closes in overtaking BTC in 2017, but BTC was able to bounce back up.I don't think ETH will ever overtake BTC, but I believe BTC will lose it's 1st position in the next years to some other competitor.

How dare you call bitcoin useless? yes it may be antique but give respect to the king. If it isn't for bitcoin, do you think altcoins like ethereum will come out? of the various exchange markets that exist, there is no ethereum value that can replace Bitcoin, because nothing can exceed the value of bitcoin known as the king of all cryptocurrency. ethereum is only a potential altcoin that has valuable value and its value growth is of course based on bitcoin price movements, therefore ethereum will not be able to completely replace the position of bitcoin
I do not believe it is likely that ETH will exceed bitcoin ever in future. On the contrary, it may be hard for Ethereum to stay at its second ranking in the future due to competition.

I do not think that you will find a lot of the guys, who will support you. Ethereum is the best altcoin, but it cannot still compete with Bitcoin.
The eth/btc flippening used to be hyped a lot more and it became really close to actually happen. It may happen in the future because ethereum has more usecase with tokens and smart contracts. The safe bet is to invest equally in both coins.
i don't see eth will dethrone BTC in the future. its the rarity of BTC that it will survive til it gets bigger than we can think of. ETH may even be possible to be outranked by EOS or Tron but not BTC. we are all seeing the king to stay on top even in the prolonged bear market. the longer is stays on top, the more it proves to be a safer investment, whales and merchants knew this already unlike with ETH which some doesn't even knew.

The boss of this thread is just trying to play with us, and if it’s not a play, I am sure he is probably mixingthings up, because every single crypto holder knows the stand of Bitcoin in the market any day and anytime.The birth of Binance chain is enough headaches for Ethereum to deal with, so BTC is not their threat right now, they should be more concerned about what will be removing them from their second position very soon. A lot of people are already testifying to the awesome work of Binance chain and how it is more effective than ETH, if Binance can easily displace Eth, then how on earth do they intend to meet up with BTC?
Eth will need to solve it's own problem first.. scaling and proof of stake

It is the dream of any coin to become the number 1 in market cap. But it won't happen. But the #2 place is still reachable for new coins. ETH can now enjoy to be the number 2.
It did not happen at the height of ETH, ICO and smart contracts, I doubt it will happen in the near future. ETH has its uses and it is good in its own way. But it will never overcome bitcoin.

I do not know what must happen to push Ethereum to take the first place. I suppose, all this time when Bitcoin will be alive, ETH will follow it. It is a great altcoin, but it cannot be the #1 yet.
Each of the mentioned coins has its advantages. The main advantage of bitcoin is that everyone knows about it. This provided this coin with the highest turnover and trading volume.

Because of the ICO scam, usage also decreasing. Moreover, as I mentioned, there supply is infinite which will cost a huge deflation in the near future I think. However, as of now, Eth still is a good investment for long term. 
When Earth will collide with Mars. This will be the time when Ethereum will exceed Bitcoin in the top stop in the market.
To be honest, I don't think there is a chance for Ethereum to exceed Bitcoin. We know that Ethereum's supply is unlimited unlike Bitcoin who has a limited supply. This affects the price of the 2 coins. I think instead of comparing both of them, why just invest on the 2 and hold.

I'm investing in ETH and BTC, both will increase then I would be happy.
However the question is so ambitious, ETH to take the no. 1 spot in the market will give a boom to the ICO project that has not increase lately.

In fact, ETH still depends on lots of Bitcoin and many other reasons why ETH will never be able to achieve the number 1 position in this market. I often monitor the value of both of these coins because it is very volatile and concludes that ETH is really not as good as it used to be and could collapse at any time. It will not recover if this is a shit coins, but the truth is its not, price dump just like other altcoins is only due to the bear market.
When bear market is out, bulls will play, and this is the time where it will rise again and people will start to appreciate ETH.
ethereum will take years to reach the top and defeat bitcoin or even can't be the same because indeed bitcoin is the mother of all altcoins and tokens, etehreum and others are trying to get past bitcoin but it is not as easy as we imagine. by creating a network of ERC20 ethereum still not able to surpass bitcoin because the erc20 is still not perfect and they need to perfect it
IMHO now not a very big quantity of really good ICO's on the eth blockchain, but there are a lot of old ICO's that now on their own blockchain and selling eth to cover current expenses. Without new wave of ICO on their blockchain they are doomed. Plus an unlimited supply of ETH looks very promising for the long term holders. Jump to:
