I actually had the same story as OP, i first heard about it when i was like 16 years old in 2009, it just popped up on my youtube feed a video explained bitcoin in simple terms i think its still avaible on the net. The reason it caught my interest was because of the fact that i was a conspiracy theory guy who watched alex jones and knew about the bilderberg group. It creeped me out that the banks had so much control and that politicans from many countries met under secret circumstances each year. It was also at the time of the financial crisis and my distrust of banks and fiat money started when i understood how fiat money is not inherently valuable and can be printed and manipulated easily.

One bitcoin was not worth anything lol but there were people speculating on the future price, which at the time sounded too good to be true, i was helping the anonymous guys ddos visa and paypal because of their sanction on wikileaks and once i saw that wikileaks accepted bitcoin i recognized that bitcoin was something else, it was a revolutionary idea that the government could not stop which sparked my interest.  However i did not have any money so i did not intend to buy bitcoin but 2013 Cyprus and greek had alot of economic issues and at that time the price spiked from 300 to 1000 usd in some months i was like 19 years old by then and invested in 1 bitcoin when it was worth 300 usd. I remember saying to my dad to put like 50. 000 SEK on bitcoin (5000 usd) but he did not trust me.  2014 the price collapsed alot of people had "lost" their money i actually remeber seeing bitcoin a lost cause and was happy that my father did not invest money in it haha. I had also lost faith in crypto because of the fact that there were so many shitcoins and altcoins (especially ones that did not bring any value to the table) that it annoyed me and destroyed my vision for bitcoin.  Fast forward to 2016 and 2017 i was studying and the price increased alot by then i was planning to invest but i was studying in another city with rent and cost of living to pain i had no invesment money.

Now we are in 2021 i am in a finally in a stable position to buy some coins(not whole coins im not rich lol) and im planning to invest monthly in cryptocurrencies again . I wonder what the future lies in store of us ahead.  Bitcoin really has made life more exciting just by watching this project unfold.  I think cryptocurrency will be to money what internet was for data.

Heard in 2007
First bought in 2017

I first heard in 2013 and used it in 2013, I wish someone told me about it earlier. I hadn't such friends unfortunately.

I heard Bitcoin around 2012, and I was like truly against it to be honest because I was learning about the surfaces of the web.
Surface web vs deep web vs dark web.
Then I realized that Bitcoin is being used there in the dark web as a means of transaction of the "people" in there, those types of people. Smiley
I thought Bitcoin existed due to the existence of the dark web, so I was like looking down into Bitcoin like it is "criminal's coin " or currency.

Fast forward to 2017, one friend of mine mentioned it and I was like "oh that's a currency in the dark web used by criminals, right?". He proved me wrong by saying that it is also an investment opportunity, because Bitcoin that year was hella pushing up to 20k. I was there. Cheesy
That's the year I started using Bitcoin.

I think around 5 or 6 years ago was when I heard about it but because I was a novice lol so I couldn't develop interest for it but after I started seeing people invest in it, I realize it is used as investment and that was how the story started for me about bitcoin.

I can't remember exact dates or even a period of time, but I'd like to think I got into Bitcoin as soon as I heard about it. I can't really remember. However, I do remember I was looking for an alternative for Paypal, and payment processors at the time, and that's how I stumbled upon Bitcoin. So, I probably got into it in a short period of time after happening upon it.

I wish I had a clearer recollection, but I don't think it was of any significance upon discovery, I do remember being pretty new to the concept of cryptocurrencies, and not having a clue. So, it definitely took me a while to actually get up to speed with things.

I can't remember anymore the exact year when I've first heard of bitcoin. Maybe that was 2013 or 2014 or even earlier.

And then I jumped to bitcoin and joined by 2016 but I think I've bought a small amount of bitcoin by 2015. Regardless of the years as long as it's in the past, those were good old days.

I can't imagine how far and great bitcoin is today and in the years to come.

Today, there are many stories about people who have learned about Bitcoin for a long time but have become seriously interested at different times. I'm not an exception. I knew about bitcoin from its very discovery. But he was always somewhere close to my interests but was not a priority. And this, of course, is the saddest and most offensive understanding for me. I think that opening this forum for myself in 2018 was my second discovery. Since then, bitcoin has become my "religion". And this is probably, as in all religions, happens to everyone who is a sooner or later comes to cryptocurrency.

Heard it 2012.
First bought it in late 2016 then sold most of it in the same exchange. No on chain transfer happened so I would not consider it used.
The first time I really used some BTC was in early 2017, on steam. Just several months before steam shut down its BTC payment.

Heard about it in 2013 and started using it within minutes (by using, I mean downloading Core and checking it out). It was too interesting not to try it out. However, I do agree that while I did use Bitcoin at the time, it took me a very long time to get used to it and to understand how things work..

What kept me back from really using it as in purchasing BTC and stuff is the fact that there were no easy ways to purchase it and I'm not the biggest fan of credit cards, especially when it comes to tech I just found out about.

Hello early adopter:) I admit I was late. I heard it first around 2015 so long after it was made. And actually even heard it from a scam source. But happy to found the scam first because I did my own research (and glad I did) and found the real Bitcoin. Became a user proper only in 2017 by investing in an ICO:P

It took me 8 years before I engaged in cryptocurrency, because at first, i think that this is not legit.

But I really took some research so that I can fully understand how it works as an investment or a currency.

I didn't know that bitcoin will reach this kind of milestone or success because I'm only exploring it and understand how it can help a person.

From what I remember, the first time I heard about Bitcoin was because of the Mt. Gox scandal, so it must have been in 2014. As for using it, it was around the beginning of June 2016. The price was about $500 then. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then.

I first knew about bitcoin when I got my first laptop, that was definitely in 2013, I can use it to purchase game on the window OS HP laptop, but I did not know truely bitcoin was money at the time. I knew bitcoin to be money in 2017 but did not have it in mind to purchase one until a scammer wanted to use it to scam me on Facebook messager in four quarter of 2019. I later had to browsed about it, know about it to actually noticed I have missed a alot. I have not bought bitcoin before, I worked for it.

I heard about bitcoin when it was like $700.

But I just totally ignore it until 2017, almost in the last quarter of a bull run. Jump in before it exploded in December. And then been using it to pay for my online bills, phone and internet and sometimes my electricity bill. And now been stacking stats since last year and I would say that this is the second bull run that I've experienced.

I have heard about bitcoin about 2016 or early 2017 back when people are still on the fence as to what bitcoin is and most of the stories about it is horror story like how it is the currency of the underbelly of deep web. I used bitcoin back in late 2018 when I was still a gambling fiend so there isn't much fun to that but now I am reformed and I can say that the bitcoin that I earn is going to good causes.

It was my first time to heard about bitcoin last 2018. That was the time my brother used to know about this forum and about bitcoin. Encouraging me to learn about it, Ive got an interest to know how this bitcoin works and I did my own research.

We won't succeed if we dont take the risks so that time, I am so determined to invest bitcoin. Looking back with my difficulties before because as a newbie, I really do not know how make a good trading with technical analysis. Now, I am enjoying the fruit of my bitcoin long term hold. Such a blessing that Ive met this kind of investment.

Heard in 2012. Even claimed some 5 mBTC from a faucet, but wouldn't count it as truly using Bitcoin. Only 4 years later I rediscovered Bitcoin and started using it for receiving money for my work.

It seems to be pretty common to have a big lag between first hearing about Bitcoin and using it, so there's still a lot of room for adoption. People who witnessed the 2017 bull run but didn't participate could be buying now, while those who only observe now could join Bitcoin after the next halving.

It's nice to know that you have encountered bitcoin in its early age, it seems like you are now really good and have many experiences with cryptocurrency, I first hear the bitcoin year 2016 on one of my friends but I got not interested on it, and then year 2020 when one of my friends again told about it then it really hooked me up and tried it as well. I just lose the opportunity to explore the bitcoin year 2017 when I have the chance to do so.
