gold is better than bitcoin

Yes, it has been considered valuable for centuries, so it is not likely that its price plummets. Bitcoin has potential, but also mucho more risks

its had value for millennia actually.

With that said the price of gold has kind of plummeted from its high of $1900 a few years back, although that was probably a manipulated high in the first place...

comparing gold to btc, well I dont think there is any comparison.  btc is still in its infancy, and has a LONG road to go until it can be comparable to gold.

And is it safe to have it shipped?

Do a search in internet, find all the sites which buy gold for bitcoin and then do separate search for every site about their reputation. Then try to buy a little amount at the most credible. If everything go good repeat the same thing increasing a little the amount every time you buy. It is most usable way to realize your aim.

My personal recommendations for buying Precious Metals with Bitcoin, that I have personally used and all are very reputable: Provident Metals, Silver Gold Bull, ShinyBars, and last but definitely not least- PMsForSale. Though my recommendations are mainly for US/Canada, check with them as I believe some ship internationally.

Though Amagi Metals was one of the first PM dealers to accept Bitcoin, and I have had a good experience with them in the past, I would strongly suggest Not buying from them until they get some recent problems taken care of. Sadly I've seen many reports in the past few months about people waiting months for orders to ship and poorly handled customer service.

snarlpill is spot on with all the above...

I would definitely listen to markj113's advice for gold dealers across the pond, as he's got a pretty badass gold stack himself & seems to be a pretty knowledgeable buyer. It sucks you guys can't order from a US dealer without paying a ton for shipping, and then VAT on top of that. Though I'm not sure, gold might be VAT-free, but silver and other PMs are still taxed? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I had had jmbullion ship to Canada in the past and would certainly recommend it for buying gold.
You could also try out bitgild. I have heard people buying from that as well.

You can buy Gold and some other metals from Amagimetals, they are trusted and people have posted good experiences with it before.

www.amagimetals.com

I've used them before and there were no problems. Smiley  You can also look into http://www.jmbullion.com/ although I've never used it personally before so I can't really vouch for them.
