Firstly check the market, EHT can not be the most smart decision - there are a lot of pumps. Better choose really strong altcoin, which price will go up. But if you want to wait for 1 - 2 years, it will be very hard choise. May be you can try Monero. 
Exactly if I have to invest my money at this stage in any altcoin then I will definitely go with monero as it has potential to survive in long term and it also involves many promising projects in future which will take its price to new level.

Why not convert your ETH to ETC? Ethereum classic is in a much better position than Ethereum right now. Their organization is leaner and it will be much easier for them to make important decision on where to take the platform. They have one of the brightest developers in the cryptosphere. Her name is Elaine Ou. The developers in ETC have more passion than the ETH developers it looks like.

i think 285$ is not such a good amount of money therefore you should invest that amount in alt section as there you can really make a good profit from such a low amount of money. as you can even buy a good amount of some alt coins whose price is too low.

If you really want to have a good investment don't listen to anyone cuz pretty much everyone will try to guide you to a place where they'll benefit from you , so instead do bit of research on your own and i'm sure u'll find something that suits you with a less risks

No one know that what will be the value of ethereum after one or two years because of its harsh past so if you will invest for that time then it will be a bigger risk and try to invest only that money which you can afford to lose.
i think 285$ is a very very low amount therefore it will be good if you invest that amount in alt coins section, there you can really buy a good number of coins with such a low amount of money. but you must chose such coin which have good potential to increase its price.
Everyone here has recommended coin to invest,but it goes down to what are your preference and what are your perception,by now you already had a list of your own where to invest your money,always invest what you can afford to lose.
