For a temporary timeframe, it is possible but for the long timeframe, I don't see a chance for the altcoins to be on the top 3 crypto market cap list. There is no need to overestimate the altcoins with nice potential.
well, even when there was an altcoin like that, it might have been made a long time ago. however, altcoins that have the potential to replace ethereum have been discussed for a long time, and to date there has not been a single altcoin that has the potential to exceed that. Maybe, there are some altcoins that have outperformed Ethereum like XRP, but that won't happen in the long run.

Why are asking such a question? Are you kind of bored of ethereum?Well there are already a lot of projects that probably tend to serve the same purpose as ethereum so if you do not like ethereum and want other options you should select from waves, neo, ada, xlm, dot and trx.
I am not bored of ethereum , its just that i want to invest in a smaller cap altcoin with the practicability of Eth and make x10 faster the profits.

The next Etherem can be this or another coin but finding the exact coin is a waste of time because the real world is completely different than what we have in our imagination.
The OP lacks detail in explaining which Ethereum points will be replaced or possibly updated by other coins. So I totally agree with the answer from angrybirdy

It's literally impossible to say cus right now, in all the crypto that currently exist, I've not seen any that has the ability or half of what it even takes to replace Ethereum, if any project is going to replace Ethereum, I don't think that project is launched yet and it's probably going to take years upon year cus Ethereum is not stagnant either, as the the project build, Ethereum is also building so its literally impossible for any project or token to replace Ethereum.

Ethereum 2.0 is working successfully, and if the developers launch Phase 2 in the next 2 years, then competitors will have no chance.

I have Ethereum, I have BTC, and I have some altcoins stuck in my wallet.
I respect the market competition, other platforms did great and might be greater compared to Ethereum but wondering why it never replaces Ethereum is because it can't, and no reason we wanting to make it happen unless if ETH will no longer be in crypto.

On a serious note, I have always said that ethereum will retain its position and value no matter how good blockchain network comes forward to compete with it simply because market is with ethereum and to replace it from the market is not a thing that can happen in near future.You should check out Zenon http://zenon.network

So if you want to have a "leading" coin, then innovate more and come with something completely new. This direction already has the leader position taken.

In your opinion, what other coins will replace Ethereum, I can bookmark BnB (Binance) as The next Ethereum, because BnB (Binance) has similarities in the system they designed, and there are even many projects that use the BnB (Binance) Blockchain system, in my opinion it is the most appropriate to replace Ethereum ..
I remember back in the ICO days all the projects were based on ETH blockchain and people were trying to figure out what the next ETH will be, this is like 3 years ago at least and people were looking for it, now we have DeFi and most of them are based on ETH again, not all of them but most are based on it, and people are still looking for the next ETH and that is just wrong.
If these are based on ETH, I doubt thye could be bigger than ETH. Those mentioned platforms have long way journey to compete with ethereum. Maybe if eth developers will stop doing their developments, those can catch up with the popularity of eth. But right now, still a lot of projects are being created under eth.
Please stop this kind of topic. There's no point discussing who will be the next Ethereum. Since a few years ago, there have been discussions like this and a lot of tokens and coins have been said to be the next Ethereum.
But not any of them did follow the path of Ethereum.
I agree with your statement because your point is completely valid. This is not kind the topic for the discussion. There is only one ETH and there are no other coins that would replace ETH or take its place. As per the above post, many people have claimed this thing already and some of the people have had suggested many coins names to replace ETH but none of it had capable to take place of ETH. But not any of them did follow the path of Ethereum.

Ethereum code developers are still actively developing the project too.
I think at this juncture and time in the crypto space, we need to stop asking this type of question because ever since I have come across this question in particular and with the series of suggestions people gave, Ethereum is there as the best altcoin, it is still there as the second top coin. Also, I have seen many coins whose developers believed that Ethereum is limited and have series of issues, but yet those coins and their developers are no where to be found and Ethereum on the other hand, is still waxing strong. So the better we stop asking this question, the better we come to the understanding that no other coin can be like Ethereum or replace it or even beat it, the better for all those who have that mindset.
If any developer believes his coin is better or will do better, then let him develop it as such; in such a way it will be attractive and get the attention of more users.
