replacing ethereum of course will not be that easy, and in my opinion there is no proper ethereum competitor, because ehtereum is already very popular and widely known to the public, especially since most crypto projects use ethereum.
I have seen this question being repeated a lot of times on this forum, people will just be guessing some altcoins that won’t even make top hundred in the next ten years. So, stop stressing yourself about all these things and put your focus where it’s supposed to be. Ethereum is likely going to be holding this position for a long time, and there is ETH 2.0 on the way.
With all the hype maybe DOGE is the next ETH after all 
It looks funny if Doge is shown to replace ETH, it looks ridiculous. in terms of price, DOGE seems unable to compete with ETH. volume, exchange and others it will not be possible for DOGE to compete or the next ETH 
In my eye no coin can replace Ethereum place because eth is strong fundamental coin but some have potential to near the eth place NEO coin and DOT have a little bit potential to each the eth place i personally invest in that coin but not sure they will reach eth place
You are absolutely right on that, there is not any project which can be successful than ETH. That is right there are numbers of projects and some of them are really successful. But that doesn't mean they can replace ETH place. But everything is possible in this world, maybe my prediction is wrong. But l believe in ETH, this coin always will be my favorite coin. NEO and DOT are great among others, but as you mentioned none predict what will happen. your predictions are not wrong, anything in the cryptoqurrency industry can happen at any time, for example POLKADOT. These used to be considered a scam coin but in fact they managed to occupy the top 10 in the CMC market. it's just that I don't think ETH will die anytime soon, because we can see that currently ETH price growth is very significant, ETH has already shown its Exitensi value, so there is no doubt that ETH is a high potential altcoin.
I don’t think there will be the next any Ethereum comes in a long few years but an alternative will surely pop up one day and create a name of its own and take a place in the top, many speculate back in 2019 that eth is losing its popularity from TRON and EOS because of the developer shifting but still eth is the king of smart contract up to now.
Ethereum is Ethereum, so there may not be a next Ethereum. ethereum is a great project, although it has many unresolved problems, especially the high cost of gas, but ETH is still fully supported by the community. so are there any other coins like this one? I don't think there will ever be again.
Polkadot (DOT) is one of I'm seeing that has the potential to compete with Ethereum features many are already working like The Web3 Foundation and some Big names like the co-founder and CTO of Ethereum
Polkadot is one of tokens that have bright future I guess but dont forget about BNB, many people try to adopt BSC as their blockchain. I'm waiting for both tokens performance in the future along with this ethereum gas fees so high.
Probably the known ETH killer Cardano (ADA) token, which has been on fire throughout 2020. Cardano price first saw a 600% increase in its market value between March and July 2020. Then the token rose by another 130% as the year ended.

Not only DOT and XLM. There are other very promising coins as well.It all depends on their development. If they are traded more than others, this will happen.

What do you mean by that? Next ethereum in what sense? You mean in terms of market capitalization? You mean a blockchain for smart contract?
From my point of view, the best alternative is PolkaDOT, this project is popular today and there are applicants for parachains on its platform today. We have a vote yet, but I think this is a good alternative.

Ethereum is the king of altcoins and will remain so for a very long time to come, I'm still not confused that Polkadot is capable than Ethereum, I've seen few altcoins that entered top 10 in the past and later goes down under top 10 rank, it's too early to start praising Polkadot, I hope it lives up to people's expectations but don't dare dream of Polkadot beating Ethereum, it's not going to be easy for a new altcoin to achieve what Ethereum have achieved since years back
Speaking of polkadot it seems like an interesting coin too,because right now the price is also going up and maybe the coin is also a potential coin,
And indeed we shouldn't think that polkadot can overturn ethereum because it's absolutely impossible

The possible competitors are the Polkadot and Cardano. They both have very decentralized networks. They can solve the high gas fee issue too.
I can say that next coin which use Binance Smart Chain can be in rise. We know that we pay too high transaction fees on ethereum blockchain and maybe after ETH 2.0 it will be resolved but now we can follow projects like pancakeswap and the others. I would suggest to follow BSC network tokens.
