you can check price on bitcoinwisdom.com also, it show price from most exchanges also show an average price and price in different currencies

I used to watch Bitstamp since it had the highest volume before, but post hack, Bitfinex.

The best meter is probably to just average Bitfinex and Bitstamp prices together to get a good Exchange price.

Don't use Preev.com anymore, because it factors in LocalBitcoins, and that's always way off.

The one that makes the most sense is the exchange that you use to buy and sell bitcoins.

Seriously. If you can't/won't use other exchanges anyway, you're stuck with that price whatever the hell the market is doing. Though if it's a low volume place, you might get a couple of minutes worth of "lag" on price movements to take advantage of I guess.

I always follow Bitstamp, they don't have the highest volume anymore, but it's a great source.

BTC-E is fair as well.
