There is a new king in town if you are in for the long run then you should definitely get at least 2 Vega RX 56 cards and a motherboard that lets you expand up to 19 cards like the Asus Mining Expert Edition. This with only 2 cards will make you 0.001 btc daily and 0.03 btc monthly, a very good amount if you ask me. Then with the passing of time you can add more cards.

If you just want to start and test mining buy at least 2 RX 570/580 cards as they are dagger hashimoto algorithm friendly and you can build a board with 2 of these for as low as 800 USD/EUR .

I stand for the first choice in this moment as RX Vegas will be same as RX 570/580 after 6-10 months meanwhile we don't know for how much mining with RX 570/580 will continue to be profitable.

I have RX 580 4GB have the same performance as the RX 580 8GB. I don't see any reason to spend the extra money. When I built my first rig I tried to buy all the most expensive. After I figured out the peculiarities of mining I built a second rig. It cost me 40% cheaper. However, she produces as many coins as expensive. Conclusion what shines is not always gold.

So between the 570 and 580 what is the difference?
Also does it matter if its 4 or 8GB? Is the Dag file increase still affecting these cards ?

580 has a few more cores than the 570, so they usually run a HAIR faster on most stuff. It's not a big difference though, perhaps 1Mh on ETH at most.

8GB cards normally have faster RAM - 8 Ghz equivilent - where 4GB cards are pretty much always 6.6 or 7 Ghz equivilent ram speed - this makes a NOTICEABLE difference on ETH mining, commonly 2 Mhash.

Tradeoffs are that the 580 is normally a little more expen$ive than the 570, and 8GB cards cost more than 4GB cards.

R9 295x2 is an awesome ETH mining card - if you can keep that monster COOL. 500 watt TDP as I recall, and pushing high ETH hashrates needs BIOS modification and is going to soak a TON of power generating a TON of heat.
It's is that generation's version of the Fury Duo - 2 GPUs on one card (R9 290 or R9 290x, I forget which offhand) with 4GB RAM for each GPU.

I don't think it's worth DOUBLE the cost of a R9 290, due to the cooling issues - but it does make for compact rigs.
It also counts as 2 GPUs against driver limits - the only thing it really saves on is physical slots.

Do keep in mind that, even if you have low power costs, purchasing older power-hungry cards (such as an HD 7990 or R9 295x2), will still up your PSU requirements more than if you were to achieve a similar hashrate with today's cards.

(The general trend is for GPUs to increase in mining efficiency with each generation, but there are exceptions. For example, the RX 570/580s are more power-hungry and provide only marginally greater performance than their 470/480 counterparts.)

One of the best card for Ethereum mining is Radeon R9 295 X2 (8GB). You may not find new units of the card on the market, but you can find used ones. Otherwise, you can use Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and 1070, if you want to mine Ether.

The AMD Cards better than NVIDIA for mining Etherium

If your just looking at eth then rx 470 or 1060 6g.

But if you can open your mind a bit then I would strongly recommend 8 x 1060 3g on a Biostar TB 250 btc plus with a 1600w mining psu. Just install windows 10, OC the cards a bit and run nicehash.

You will get alot more sleep and it will mine away making your the most for the longest.

Don't worry about the fact the 3gb can't mine ethereum. As the moment that ethereum gets more profitable the difficulty of the other coins will drop.

RX 470/570 23-30 h/s  also optimal hash/watt
1070 @ 28-30h/s
1060 @ 18-22 h/s

I dont think those figures are accurate as they dont take memory types into consideration.

1070 @ 28-30h/s

It should be mh/s not h/s in ETH

AMD RX cards requires modification in order to achieve higher hashrate upto 30mh/s, GPU price ranging 250-300USD

GTX 1070 cards can do also upto 30mh/s without modification and by tuning clocks only, GPU price range 310-500

there are online calculators out there to check your present profitability on each card

goodluck to your mining journey

I've never seen a GTX 1070 in the 310 range, especially not recently, from ANY source.
AMD cards HAVE been dropping noticeably under 250 the past couple weeks, as low as $209 on Newegg on Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend though they bounced back up a little since then (the LOWEST 1070 on Newegg is $399 for comparison).

RX series cards DO need a BIOS modification to achieve top hashrates, but 22-24 with a STOCK card is common with just overclocking/undervolting.

yeah best hash per $ is amd but 1070s run at way less powerand are
so much easier to get running.

its a tough call

For ETH, the AMD RX 470/570/480/580 are the kings as far as current new cards go on hash/$ and they are very very close on efficiency to anything else on hash/watt.

The only reason folks started building NVidia-based ETH mining rigs was that those RX series cards hit crazy pricing for a while due to demand GREATLY exceeding supply to the point they cost MORE than NVidia 1070 cards - and started driving NVidia 1060 and 1070 card pricing up as well.

At current "getting back towards MSRP" pricing on the AMD cards, no reason to waste time looking at anything else (possible exception for the GTX 1060).

In used cards, if you can get R9 290/290x/390/390x cards for enough less than those RX cards AND if you have low cost power, they MIGHT be a better choice - they'll pull a hair higher hashrate but they eat a TON more power to do so.

I would encourage you to read the Sticky note at the top of this Sub-Forum. There you'll note that Bitcoins can no longer be mined efficiently using ANY GPU, You will be best served by looking to an Alt-Coin forum.

It's also quite possible that this thread will get moved by a moderator (e.g. -ck).

I want to build a mining tool (RIG) but I am confused when choosing the right graphics card to mine Etherium.
Nividia or RX ... I hope you guys can give me advice.
thanks.
