I tend to disagree. There are lots of successful advertisements that is placed and done by using forums (not just here obviously) without the use of signature space of users and using social medias. It's about targeting those people who are really into the products and serious attempt to gather views.

I think what you say is not true. I think the way to promote the most effective products is through social media or websites. Because then people will know about our products. Because we know a lot of them who use social media to search for referrals. Or information .. I think it is quite effective for you to promote your product.
You should study your audience first.
