Well, technically, you are going to always buy bitcoin because almost all alts are bought with bitcoin not fiat.
Some you can buy with eth or ltc, but btc is the currency of choice.

So when you cash out, what you are really doing is selling your alts for btc, then changing btc to fiat.
Really, in the end, even if you invest heavily into an alt, you are just trying to increase the overall amount of btc you have in the long run.
that's why people say btc is king and that around 50% of your investment portfolio should be in btc.

That way, you can take advantage of any investment opportunities you see.
On a side not, remember that alts are only profitable if they outperform btc's growth.  A lot of times, it is more profitable to just keep the btc.

You can do both, buy bitcoin and some altcoin but it all depends on how much money you can invest, I suggest to divide your money to bitcoin and the other investment is to altcoin, bitcoin os a long term investment, altcoins have a short term investment like ripple that give you profit in a short period of time. Just invest wisely.

I am still waiting for that bleed and bitcoin dip, it would be a great thing to have at least 0.5 of it. Don't really have the financial capacity to buy it now, was not s opportune to be an early adopter. I hope i can get to buy its half soon.

It is important to distinguish between short and mid/long-term view. In short term I think Btc might decrease at the beginning of 2018 first, then it will be a good time to buy. Referring to altcoins, you have to look at each single one and analyze it if investment is promising. In general, in mid/long-term it is probably a good idea to invest in Btc as the value might further increase due to even more public attention.

Public attention means more users and investor but it also means more temptation to regulate and speculate. If BTC keeps these price levels, it won't be long before governments/politicians, pressured by bankers/brokers will start to intervene.

Is this proves to be a bubble, then it will be a significant blow to all the crypto reputation and credibility.

If BTC and general crypto prices keep on rising, then some of us will be very happy for some time but it won't last long.

Now the price of bitcoin is pretty low, but I think it will be more logical to buy bitcoin at the more deep correction. I think that after a correction, bitcoin will start to rise rapidly up to 30-50k

If BTC rises rapidly to 50k, we have to ask ourselves where is the money coming from?

Take a look at these figures:

BTC market cap: ~263 B

Cisco Systems Enterprise Value: 155.85 B

Intel Enterprise Value: 236.72 B

Just to name a few, ok?

If we look at the top 10 crypto, we have to wonder... WTF??? How can these assets be more valuable than some of the greatest tech corporations?

Let's not get too enthusiastic bout all of this, shall we?

Buying altcoins seems more profitable right now. BTC is kinda unstable, but with alts you can multiply your investment by a lot.

I read an opinion that seemed legit about altcoins. The point is that, say, Ethereum has a bigger chance of growing than Bitcoin in the long run. In other words, $800x10=$8000. $17000x10=$170000. Add the market cap here, and what seems more probable?
So for a long time investment I'd rather go for some altcoins, my favourite are ETH and IOTA.

I want to buy altcoin or bitcoin for investment purposes before January
Which one do you recommend to buy?
Or some bitcoin and some altcoin?
If you are buying in January i would suggest you to buy bitcoin because it usually deep on price during first quarter of the year. If you want to buy altcoin, check the chart first if the price is already on pump stage or on a dump stage.

Bitoin yes, and hodl to the end. Altcoin if you can afford to lose more.
No, altcoin is very beneficial just like Bitcoin. you know the price of Ethereum is now increasing and due to the increase I can gain a lot of profit, it is not in vain that I hold Ethereum for 1 year

I will advice you to buy Bitcoin in higher value while the rest should be used to buy altcoin. Bitcoin will be for 80% while altcoin for 20%. The value in price increase for Bitcoin is quite higher than that of Altcoin so in the profit margin.Investing in Bitcoin at  80% will lead to your gaining  successfully.

In my opinion, They both makes sense because it does not matter what coins you are going to buy and the profit you will get will be base on your strategy if your going to hold your coins or do trading in the market.

I think the power is in the distribution. You should put your investment partly in BTC, partly in Altcoins and a little part you can put in upcoming ICOs. THat's the best way to get all the profit and minimize risks

At the moment it is very difficult to advise something. At any other time advised to buy bitcoin and nothing more, since the altcoyn is very much and guess which one will take off very difficult. And now with bitcoin it is not clear what will happen next month.

Why not do both? Especially need some of the bitcoin cash as it usual scheme to dump bitcoin and pump BCH and vise versa. I suggest having 60 to 40 in altcoins, mainly well-established ones. Use 10-15% for undervalued or new coins after successful ICO. I am a strong believer in Iota, Nexus, Monero. Eth will be 1000 for sure! But most of altcoins unlikely to outperform the mighty bitcoin.

it may depend on the user and also may depend on the point of view holding a bitcoin is also good because the price is pretty high but the altcoin are much more profitable because it price is much more bigger if that altcoin go boom

I advise you to buy both bitcoin and altcoins, as you will always be in the black regardless of whether bitcoin or altcoin will fall or vice versa it will grow. The best scheme is to invest 35% in bitcoin and 65% in altcoins.

In my own opinion, It depends on your capital because bitcoins is for reach people and you will really notice that the value of coins is very high and altcoins is cheaper that's why they prefer this coin on trading.
