You can simultaneously engage in both. Although, I think you can earn more by investing. But I do not do it yet. I participate only in bounty. Maybe someday I will try to invest.

If you have enough money to buy token yes you can because either way you still get that profit but the advantage of buying their token directly is you have the privilege to sell all of your token when it is getting listed in any exchanges.

If you don't have money for investment you can do joining bounty campaigns but much better if you can support or invest one project because if this project will succeed you can earn lot of money. Once the token was listed in marketplace you can trade your tokens.
