Am thinking of a couple of cheap 10 port ebay hubs, throw away the psu's and power them straight of an atx psu ( i`ll need one for my k16`s anyway).

Anyone got any thoughts on this???   Grin

Added your find to the table, right after Anker. I used Amazon price with a footnote, pointing to your review. By the way, Amazon states that the hub has 5A adapter.

I have 6 of these, all power 10 usb miners each no problem.

Buy them in volume and you will get large discounts in combined shipping. Shipping just 1 to me cost $15 but 6 cost $19.

Thanks for the review, Garfield. I've updated the table with a footnote and an accurate price per usable port.
I was actually considering hunting this hub down, when I saw on photos that it had to power connectors, which I thought would mean it could be powered from two adapters. Strange that only one of them is wired.

Short evaluation- DO NOT BUY THIS HUB.

Long evaluation -  I bought this hub, thinking 90 watt, 20v, should be able to handle up to 30 usb eruptors, without a problem, but .....I just received mine and right off the bat, you could not run more than 12 miners in it, any more than that and the additional ones do get recognized, do not get assigned a com port number , but neither bitminer, nor CGminer, can run.  In addition, the hub is split into two 10 port hubs internally (It has two usb cables coming out of it (one for the left 10 and one for the right 10)).  I took it apart, and there seems to be a spot for a 2nd power adapter on the PCB, but there is no plug receptacle, I may put one in there, but there is some soldering involved and I am not the best at that.  Having one cable plugged into the PC from the hub results in the hub identifying one set of 10 USB eruptors running with no problem.  Plugging the USB cable in the 2nd usb port results in the other 10 being recognized, but when you plug in both, it looks like it recognizes everything (all 20) until you run CG Miner.  Then CGminer crashes and you cannot run.  it will work with up to 12 USB eruptors in it, in any configuration (6+6, 8+4, 10+2) but any more than that and cgminer crashes.  Now, to be clear, I am running CGminer with other hubs (two 7 port and one 10 port(and more than 12 USB eruptors, so I know its not a CGMiner configuration issue.), plus, bitminter doesn;t recognize more than 12 as functional either.

Save your money, this hub is not the answer for running 20 USB miners at once (even though I wanted it to be.)

Ouch! today i went in my basement to reset my router and i noticed that one of my Erupters was glowing green. there were 7 in an Anker 10 port Hub(black). So i wiggled it, nothing. So i unplugged it and plugged it back in. 3 more next to it started glowing  Sad . So I moved them all to a new Anker 10 port(silver apple like) and they all worked fine. There was a USB Artic fan on them so heat wasn't an issue. I'll have to play with the port, maybe take it apart if it doesn't start working next time i try it. I figured I'd mention it here incase anyone else has a similar issue. the Hub was one of two that i'm running.  Huh

The Tek Republic hub would appear to be an Action Star UH-217C-US. The power adapter shown in the Amazon photos is the same included with mine (Sunny branded, 5V 2.6A).

Personally, I am mining with my 6 BEs + fan on an ancient (~14 years old) Newer Technology 7-port USB 1.0 hub w/ some random 5V 4A power adapter.

@superfastkyle: Added Tek Republic to the list. Is it the one you use?

@freshzive: Updated the table with a footnote regarding your experience.

@notlist3d: It all depends on how much power the included AC adapter can supply. Calculate the number of ports, using the expression in the OP, then subtract 1 or 2 to get the reliable number of usable ports. Shy away from the hubs, where power supply amperage is not specified.

FWIW I could only get 4 miners to work properly on the 'Pluggable' usb2 hub. A fifth would start off fine but after a few hours it would stop submitting shares regularly. Cgminer still reported as 333mhash but the # of accepted shares was obviously much lower than  the average of the others. It's also much more difficult to cool the miners in these hubs,  requires as least 2 fans.

I'm having good results with the Cambrionix A6 49 port 2.0 Hub on Windows7.  Will update once I've tested it on BeagleBone Black.

It's waaaaaay too expensive to buy new, but I scored a used one for $200.

Currently running perfect with 33 Erupters, 16 more on the way.  Hoping my Sparkle Power Supply can drive all 49!

Will be interested to hear how it goes maxed out and where is can be purchased.

My current state of the table show that is might actually be cheaper to buy hubs with a smaller number of ports. For example this 7-port "Plugable" can be used to power 5-6 miners, and the last port can be used to daisy-chain the next hub with "only" $4 per miner port.

I've started on a table over the hubs that were mentioned or look promising. See OP. If anyone had successful experience with any other hubs, please mention them here.

CanaryIntheMine, I've added your tested hub to the list, though it turns out to be the most expensive one in terms of $/usable port (and running 9 off it is a bit of a streatch)

outherngentuk, those Anker look-alikes seem to be pretty widespread. They are running off 12V @ 4A, while the specs say not to exceed 7A total on all USB ports after 12V->5V conversion: 5V @ 7A would actually allow for 14 simultaneous USB 2.0 devices.

Also found this PCIe x1 Molex-powered gem:

This can be interesting when converting a GPU-based rig. Any thoughts?

These are on ebay, I think they are Identical to the Anker and same spec.. 4A PSU so in theory should be good for 8 units. Its been happily running 10 for the last week.
Orico seem to have hubs that look the same as some other manufactures as well as Anker.
